My favorite Doris film, as well. I have the soundtrack on a tape, and luckily made some backups, because I played it so often the first one wore out. And in this MGM film, she got out of those Warner Bros. ruffles and bows and whatnots hiding a truly remarkable body. She was the ultimate treat for both the eye and ear, wasn't she?
I think she was nominated for an Oscar for this. You know, in The Man Who Knew Too Much with James Stewart, directed by Hitchcock, Doris went to him and asked what she was doing wrong. Hitchcock wasn't telling her anything or directing her at all. His response to her...... he didn't need to direct her, she was doing everything right. One of the most underrated and under recognized actors ever.
@claudenorth2007, I so agree this performance at the very least should have received a nomination. Cagney said of her she was one of the two greatest actresses he ever worked with. Singing & acting so natural and beautiful she's so underrated.
Miss Day was really an outstanding actress and entertainer. Everything she did was superb! She was so gorgeous and dramatically intense in this movie. One of the greatest American artists of all time! That's just my opinion.
This is a fabulous song from Love Me or Leave Me....but there were so many great songs in this movie. What a sin that she wasn't even nominated for this movie !
Definitely Oscar-worthy in this film, as well as THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and especially CALAMITY JANE, in which the sheer physicality of her performance is dazzling.
I agree. Isn't she so beautiful in this film? Such lean muscle and curves in all the right balance. She must have been breathtaking in person. If only....
I absolutely agree. I loved all Doris Day's performances equally until I saw Love Me or Leave Me. It was without a doubt, the best movie I had ever seen. Doris Day or no Doris Day. She is phenomenal in this picture. Thank you for watching.

She was a fine dramatic actress as well. Too bad she became typecast later on in so many comedies.

I think this is Doris Day's best film. The singing, the costumes, her acting, the way it's filmed...
