  • yeah, it's a wonderful cover...there were many great acts in this tribute concert :)

  • @KMdeRosa It would be good if his estate would agree to release some material from the tour, either on CD or DVD. I still feel some combinations worked better than others which may sadly cause disagreement.

  • @quitethoughtful life is like a box of chocolates........lol but yes it defo deserves a release, i remember watching this when it was first broadcast and a few acts stuck in my head so i'm glad i found this :)

  • The more I see or hear interpretations, however great they are, I always return to the original recording. Nick Drake saw more, and too much else besides. (from 'The Shell', Molly Drake. A Skin Too Few)

  • Oh my,

they certainly got this one right! Not only perfect playing and singing but they inserted themselves perfectly into the Nick Drake vibe.

    all praise in their direction!

    wordofgord

  • One of the notable things about nick drake's songs is their brevity amidst complexity. you always wind up longing for the song to continue, and wishing there was more. You see the concentration on teddy's face: you have to listen carefully to the music in a nick drake song, or you will blow it entirely. It's like the art of the seemingly simple.

  • A masterclass, a fitting dedication to one of the worlds finest ever musicians.

  • so restrained. perfect voice for justification of a beautiful arrangement. great quality audio rip!

  • @musicfreak73 I listened to the Drake version this week and the phrasing is surprisingly similar while being individual. Some of the others also bring vitality too

  • @quitethoughtful he's got great clarity and tone in his voice, suits drake pretty well i agree. lisa hannigan stood out too. was gonna go to this but had to work...I am now filled with with regret.

  • @musicfreak73 As i commented elsewhere some of the participants are not keen live performers so I cannot see a big tour happening. It might though be worth an inquiry via some of their respective web sites.

  • @musicfreak73 After Drake, almost anyone singing his music sounds far too traditional. Those ethereal Drake vocals are so integral to his songs that it's hard to hear anyone else bring force and presence to them - they simply sound too overwrought (even where performers are attempting restraint).

A rather conventional reading such as this performance obviously suffers in comparison. But how couldn't it?
