  • As soon as he starts sharing the dreams he has of her~ it breaks my heart, and tears form in my eyes every time.

  • Sooo many couples go through this, marrying before they had any closure in previous relationships, therefore they can't love their spouse like their supposed to. not all marriages fall out of love like this, it all just depends on whether or not your marrying for the right reasons.

  • Exactly! 5:30 in. Although I would say breaks my heart. Great subtle acting.

  • Ive seen this movie soo many times and it still makes me laugh and cry thats just how amazing this movie

  • The way she gets so angry and recovers from it is sooooooo natural. Julie Delsy = Best female actress of all time

  • @slayer200128 i totally agree with you but it's Julie Delpy

  • My life story.

  • I've lost a flame in my heart for some time after my last relationship, but after watching both movies: sunrise and sunset, I began to feel the flame again... Much thanks to the creators and actors for this magnificence, for bringing me back to life...

  • @H0spitaller I have to absolutely agree with you as I experienced the exact same thing as you did. lotsa movies raised our eyebrows and thrills our senses, but only few does raise the heart. The sequel did it all for me. Cheers .

  • This movie.... Oh god, this movie...

  • I don't know how many times i've watched this movie and how many times i've cried from the moment they get into the car to the ending. Both movies (wich i like to take as just one) are definetly some of the best movies ever.

  • Jesse: I think I'm one of those guys.

Saline: I want to kill them!

  • @theendofconfusion ITS CELINE, GODDAMIT!

  • @kaisamsa hilarious hahaha

  • Qué momento!!! por favor!!!

  • I am him except that when I look back there is no one to help me out of this. feel so hopeless.

  • I thought it was so interesting the way the characters' personalities became the mirror of the person they fell in love with. Jesse was such a cynic in the beginning of "Before Sunrise", but you could see towards the end how his romanticism began. Celine was a romantic who, never being able to match that connection she felt with Jesse years back in Vienna, became a cynic. I think it's very realistic and it was so great to revisit these characters years later.

  • I am her.

  • This is definitely what a romantic comedy should be like. The first movie was corny but this movie is heartfelt.

  • i adore this movie. i love the first one more, but both are SOO GOOOOD

  • Once, I dreamt of a woman who gave me her hand in Mallorca, Spain. She trusted me with her life, and opened her eyes under the majestic Mediterranean Sea of Calla Mallor. And when she came up after viewing the tranquility below, she whispered "I Love You Chris" as she looked into my soul with her green eyes. My life was forever changed.

  • When I awoke from this dream, I felt this angel had slipped through my hands like sand through an hour glass. My heart felt to...uched and in love. I fell to my knees praying to the heavens to return this angel to me. At least if for only a moment, if not a lifetime. In this instant, our souls were frozen in time. Every day, I search for this woman that kissed my soul. Praying that she will one day look into my eyes and complete my existence on this fragile earth. Where are you my angel?

  • I've traveled the world searching for the answers to life's mysterious questions. After living in Japan and traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East, I've acquired a wonderful appreciation for Life. I've lived this movie.

  • @seekperfection cool. tell us more. i want to know.

  • thank you for uploading this

  • So much intense, very emotional. You couldn't find them in today's cinema.

  • "reality and love are contradictory for me" truest statement

  • Comment removed

  • i dont understand what happened here. too confusing

  • "why are you telling me all this?" WHAT IS THE POINT! the world is not made for people, people has to COPE with it!

  • χουφτωσ'την ρε

  • Celine is crazy !!

  • This scene describes my life right now. I used to think the idea that you can only be complete with one other person was

EVIL!!! It is not EVIL!!!!! It just sucks when you can't be with that person, for whatever reason.

  • I'm not even 21 yet and I'm starting to think like Celine. Every woman I've met or connection I've had has felt completely pathetic and weak in comparison to Jesse and Celine. The feeling of "why bother?" is starting to shroud me.

  • Jesse does a good job "weathering" through this one! hahaha!! How many guys(like I DEFINATELY can haha)...can relate to dealing with a lady "meltdown" like this? Been through quite a few of these..it comes with the territory i guess...haha!!

  • @Philmod68 : Personally I love it when they "meltdown" as you call it. Everything is out in the open and the truth is being told. There's nothing worse than when a woman says she's fine but it's clear that she's not. I'd feel that she doesn't really love me if she can't trust me with the inner workings of her mind.

  • @Beingaeterna I totally agree with you man! I can't stand the "I'm fine" thing...when there is OBVIOUSLY something wrong. I would prefer more women like Celine with "meltdowns"...so I can hear where they are coming from. And I've dated most women like that anyways...soo....haha!!

  • That part when she tries to reach Jesse with her hand gave me goose bumps, coz you know if that actually happened that if that hand touched him they would've just grab each other and burst to tears.

The amazing thing about this movie is it's the complete opposite of the first one. The characters were shrowded by their sadness, regret and hopelessness unlike the first movie. Notice the movie starts with showing the places they will go to as the movie goes on unlike the first.

  • i loved this movie including the first one, not knowing that i'd be in a similar situation years later. these situations are wonderful in movies but extremely painful in real life. in a sense they are luckier they had a second chance.

  • @aninipot10 I second that. You like to watch the pain, separation and tension in a movie because they normally work things out. However in life the agony can be unbearable. I also had a similar situation and this movie is my therapy.

  • Is this a movie about me????

  • how can anyone possibly vote this down?

  • Oh crap......I just realized I am Ethan Hawke in this movie. Not that I look anything like him, but the rest........I even wrote a book recently; not a novel, but it got published. Julie, where the heck are you????

  • I totally agree that this was the best part of the movie. Julie Delpy blew me away when I watched this!

  • @Baldenlong77 I think this is the best scene in the film, but being that I love these characters so much, for me the best *moment* was when Jesse turned and saw Celine for the first time in the bookstore. She was so radiant with that sheepish smile. If I was him I definitely would've fallen out of my chair and be left breathless. I'd have been afraid to even speak to her for fear she wasn't real and would vanish.

  • Yes, it's amazing! It's amazing, omg, I just said that.. How are they able to show this kind of real emotion, with dialog, gestures, etc?

  • All that talk just to get into her pants! =)

  • amen, best part altho i loved the whole thing! they give so many beautiful thoughts throughout both movies!

  • Before Sunset - The Best Part of two Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love The One with whom fate brings together, Never Ends...

  • that moment when he goes to touch her but stops.

    so amazing.

  • "... I might have given up on the whole idea of romantic love.... "

  • Yes, that's a good part.

  • Gonna go watch these two movies back to back.

  • this guy is so submissive...

  • Love is the idea of romantic love..

    Moments

Not a lifetime as I see it..

  • LOVE LOVE this scene!!!

  • it's the best part. 100%. love, love, love.

  • Though the two get along great, they should remain good friends and nothing beyond that. Like what she said, she fears commitment.

  • He did the thing where he was going to touch her hair like in the first one!

  • "I have these dreams..."

  • the best fcuking part of the movie, second only to the ending.

  • jajaja

  • ... Oh, for fuck's sake, just get together and STAY together!!

This movie and the first one just fucking kill me.

  • it is quite amazing to find someone you can talk with, fight with and laugh with without both you realizing how time flies. when you do find that kind of person, you're lucky. coz after the romance has faded, it is important that the person you're with is someone you can BE with. not just tolerate it. but really spend your whole life with....i wish everyone could have that someone with them. love love love.....sigh...

  • yes..click click clik!!! lindoooooooooooooooooo

  • I love this movie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The incredible thing is that the entire movie is a dialogue between two persons...nothing else than that, but it's not boring, on the contrary... so intense, so real.

  • @phoenix71l Well said, mate.

  • @phoenix71l

I never would have thought such a movie would be so good. Kudos to the writer, director and actors.

  • cried like a baby when I watched this for the first time

  • 5:30 rapes my heart.

  • RIchard linklater is great! Beautiful films.

  • I LOVE this movie. Love, love, love it.

  • I love how they both reach to touch each other, but then pull back just as they turn.

  • can't stop my tears, every single time i watch this movie and somehow it gives me hope to trust the universe and everything will be ok. "click, click, click"

  • The problem with this movie is that it makes so many other ones feel so fake. Love this. L-O-V-E!

  • @irazzz84 THIS IS SO TRUE

  • "You come here to Paris, all romantic and married. Screw you.."

It's real. It's raw, and it's like a fucking punch to the face. Brilliant.

  • I love this movie because it is so romantic. Both of them are really true to each other at this moment.

  • brilliant !

  • ahhh its all so true and real :/

  • this really is the best part!!

  • I agree this is indeed the best part. Oh how I love her so much! She's just so amazing! ^_^

  • Really best part!

  • Julie Delpy can sum up my life perfectly in one rant. Damn that amazing woman.

  • This scene is amazing, but it is also a scene where Julie's acting is so tremendous, it blows Ethan right off the screen.

  • This is one of my fav scenes too. I tear and choke whenever I watch this part that no matter how hard you try to make things work here, you know there's THE guy out there and meant to be your "the missing half"...and you know there's no way to turn back time, sigh.

  • I've never written any response on YouTube ever. Just want to say "thank you." This is a great scene. Inspirational. You must be a beautiful person (I have no idea what kind of person you are. I shouldn't make any assumptions, but you gave me a gift so just want to say "thanks").

  • my favorite part is at 1:07 when she says "I never felt it was the right man, never", and then the camera cuts to him and his reaction. so good :)

  • Ugh this scene is perfect. They both completely fall apart. I love Jesse so much. We think the same way

  • Best couple ever! the chemistry between the two of them is just amazing! loooove them!

  • just watch another movie note book

  • "You come here to Paris, all romantic, and married. SCREW YOU!" I love that part

  • OMG you are so right...BEST PART!!! Best love story ever to hit the screen, the simplicity of it makes the most real love story

  • every sentence is sooooooo well thought out

  • best movies ever

  • Definitely the best part of before sunset. The ending of both sequel of the movie leaves us with a sad feeling and i think that's what makes it special.

  • I think the moment is good but better is first part when they listen together music in the cab

  • I love the way they are trying to touch each other's hair but they are afraid.

  • This is my absolute FAVOURITE film. Of all time. Seriously. I just love it!

  • yep. best scene. i am her.

  • you should listen to jess, seriously :)

  • they make a great team on screen

  • Definitely!

This is the best part of the film!

I kept replaying this part over and over.

Celine said: "...of course I remembered"

    "women pretend things like that..."

    hehe... :-)

If I'm not mistaken Ethan and Julie improvised on the dialogue a lot that's why the conversation was so fluid and seemed natural and unrehearsed. On the end credits their names appear on the screenplay writter.

    Definitely excellent professional chemistry.

  • Love this movie!! .:♥:.

  • Oh, god. I love their speeches SO much... What he says about his dreams... They make me want to cry :). Love this movie.

  • 5:31 She almost touches him, but can't... :'(

  • 2.59 He almost touched her also when she looked away but then she looked back at him

  • agree, best part of the movie!

  • what happens to her hair between 2:07 and 2:10???!!

  • The atmosphere was very romantic yet unpretentious, and it started to make the sparkles between them kind of vague but obvious at the same time. It's wonderful.

  • god this car scene is the best scene in the movie

  • These movies are what life is really like. As I watch them and grow older the more my life becomes theirs.

  • mdr j'adore quand elle s'enerve et se met a parler en francais "monsieur arretez vous, non non c'est bon , au feu là juste au feu, ya un métro meme je veux prendre le métro !!" julie is so coooool !

  • I so agree. it was the best part of the film. and this scene always gives me goosebumps. it's so realistic. I bet both put a lot of personal experience into it.

that film was perfect. and both of them were awesome. thanks for uploading this scene.

  • this scene sums up both movies perfectly. i love how everything bottled up just suddenly explodes out of them

  • This conversation is soooo real... work of genius.

  • incredible. simply brilliant.

  • I can't believe that Delpy wasn't nominated for an Oscar...

So great in this movie, especially in this scene!

  • I love the scene. I can so relate to her... but that is life.. all i can do is try to be in alignment for the bumpy ride..

  • this is poetry in movie form

    thank you so much!

  • AGREED! Best part of the whole movie.... and it's a great film!!!!

  • i also think this is the best part of the film. no doubt.

  • Beautifully expressed emotions.. so touching, so true...it hurts...

  • This is too true for me. it hurts

  • so real, so many important thoughts -said with humor also- in a few minutes... so touching! sad, familiar, absurd, funny, philosophical, hopeful... alltogether... one of the best love scene I know!

  • (U)............

  • this moment really killed me

    :**

  • When you love someone, you can't avoid things!

  • "why they don't ask ME to get married!? I would've said no, but at least they could've tried!!" haha that's sooo funny xD

  • yes! very good script...i love this part so much..it makes me think a lot....im buying the dvds..5:34 - 5:46 is my favorite scene..i can feel the pain...

  • Love the 5:31 part!

  • l ove these films i just saw both :)

  • OMG! I just caught that he tried to reach for her at 2:57. I'm balling here. One of my favorite movies of all time.

  • Then at 5:32 she reaches for him. Its such a beautiful interplay.

  • lol, so great! they are soulmates.

  • its such a bittersweet way to see the fuckin love i just cant imagine how this is a movie and makes me wonder if it is real or can be real

  • i have to admit, i was mildly horrified at the thought of a sequel to Before Sunrise, but this is great. why can't there be a thousand movies like these?

  • this was a powerful scene!

apart from this, the final scene of the movie with them in Celiene's apartment really had me going.. especially when Celiene said, "Honey, you are going to miss that plane.." Ethan's replay to that said it all...

  • The best scene for me too.. the moment of truth. Both of them were able to say the things they've been keeping all those years. The pain hidden in each character moved me, especially when Jesse said, "There's gotta be more to love than commitment."

  • my god...i did not expect Before Sunset to surpass Sunrise. as special as the first one is...the writing in this one is a masterpiece.

  • I have to agree that this is the best scene from this movie. The conversation that they are having leaves the both of them so fragile, exposed, and vulnerable to one another...it's beautiful that they can feel each other's pain and love each other on such a deep level. Even after 10 years....oh and my absolute favourite moment is at 5:30-5:32 when Celine reaches out to touch him but retracts her arm before he can see the motion. BEAUTIFUL and gets me every time.

  • I think I relate better to this movie that to before sunrise and I'm only 19! The first one is really idealistic the way they speak. They have the pretenciousnes of all us young people haha. But for some reason I just really feel as if they are me when I get older. He is me if I get married and she is me if I don't.And the script is so well written! You feel as if they are speaking your words! It must be great to have someone to talk about stuff with this honesty and not feel stupid afterwardsXD

  • Jesse: "I know that there's something wrong... I might have have given up on the whole idea of romantic love... I might have put it to bed that day you weren't there."

  • So much pain in those lines... Jesse understands where he possibly went wrong but knows that he made those choices for powerful reasons. He just doesn't know if those choices were worth it, even if his son was the result...

  • This is the ultimate distillation of regret. We make choices in life, sometimes when we are too young to understand the consequences. But the result of those choices chase us from year to year. In the end how many of us really end up with the resolution that Jesse and Celine get?

  • I think they are so very lucky in getting to revisit their choices together instead of alone in the dark moments of the night, when you are the most alone and without counsel, love, or redemption. We revisit our choices and regrets in the most dire private moments... the dark nights of the soul. I barely survive those moments, and only wish I had a second chance with the one that got away. But unlike Jesse I know I will never see her again.

  • have put it to bed that day you weren't there."

  • Gotta add a second comment.. usually when you see a clip called "best part" of anything it's the opposite of that.. this is really one of the very best scenes of an incredible film. Good job by the author

  • If I could give this 20 stars I would. This is one of the best acted scenes I've ever seen.

  • great scene!!!

  • these movies are excellent, but in my mind they only miss each other, and feel attracted to each other after all that time becuase they didn't have a chance to share their routine...

life is the way it is...

  • how did i ever let this go...

  • REGREEEEEET REGRET REGRET REGRET ... TRAPPED in REGRET.

    REGRET after

    self-realisation

    self-awareness

Stoping the mind... then all stops :)

  • I always cry with this scene

  • In the documentary they say that the idea would be to make 4-6 movies about them, like a love documentary.

Anyway, i don´t think they will. These two movies are just perfect. And this scene, one of the most beautiful scenes i´ve ever seen.

    It just pictures life.

  • I love how in both movies they constantly talk. I've never had that with anyone, but its what I hope for one day. I watched them back to back this afternoon, wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

  • one of the most powerful scenes in cinematic history. julie delpy blows u away in this scene, but then comes ethan hawke's part. for me his monologue and acting in this scene are just PERFECT! it's so realistically affecting and moving. love it!

  • Esto demuestra que si hay segundas partes buenas, en este caso podría decir que mejora a la primera. Es excelente esta escena, gracias por esta película.

  • this is definitely the best part of the movie.

don't we all have an Ex who ruined all of our following relationships?

    i certainly had one.

  • ok here it goes. I spent 12 days 24/7 with a tourist girl, and I was in love with her without knowing she was married. We haven`t seen each other for 2.5 years and she came back to study here for a year and she calls me and mentions me about this movie and tells me that she was married and still she is and currently seperated. Isn`t it a fucked up situation?

  • Indeed.

    What will you do?

  • This scene showcases the best acting by both actors in this film. The crushing desire to just touch one another and reconnect to that one moment 10 years prior, and yet unable to. I hope

Linklater does another film showing these two another ten years from now and we see what happens...

  • In an interview, he said that, that was the original idea... To sort of follow the story of this couple every nine years and sort of make this documentary of a love relationship! The ups and downs and craziness of it all!!! I really do hope they make another movie!!!!

  • i am trying not to get too excited about your comment... but if you are right then holy crap! that would be amazing

  • as musch as "before sunset" and "before sunrise" are considered in my favorite films of all time, i wouldn't like a sequel. it would probably not be as good as them, and i will be all disappointed.

let's just leave the rest of their story to our imagination.
