It may have come in 2nd ina European Contest, but at one time, it came in 1st at American Bandstand. Which is where I heard this song for the first time.
great song! it was a big hit in the philippines back in '74 and still is a regular on some radio stations. first time i've seen a video of the group, though. the lead singer is so lovely...
Sem ter ganho é um verdadeiro emblema do Festival da Eurovisão. Belíssima canção, bela interpretação.Foi a melhor embaixada que a Espanha até hoje enviou a este concurso internacional.
Everyone can have one opinion about why one song didn't won the ESC, but in 1968 Franco was in the spanish government too and Spain won the contest. The same in 1969.
"Eres tu" simply did't won, but here in Spain is loved, remembered and considered our best song in the ESC.
I agree it should have won but 1973 was one of the best for quality. Also this was still the Franco era and just as the UK recently got zero votes in the year following the Iraq invasion I think there maybe was an aversion to giving a boost to a country with a Fascist govt at the time.
Tu te reconnaitras never became so popular in Asia, while this song remains one of the favourites in Weddings. Even the British preferred this song to the entry of Luxemburg.
I don't think that's true, because you gotta think, both of Spain's wins came when Franco was in power. I think it just got edged out by another good song.
The Best Spanish Entry Ever. Much superior to Tu te reconnaitras which is now almost forgotten. Whereas Eres tu remains an Evergreen and known in five continents.
On the point from thirtymphs its only a theroy on political influence on ESC voting but I sense that the right wing dictatorship in Spain was becoming a much hotter issue in the international arena by the early 70s with the EU taking a higher profile. Political as well as regional trends can be seen in Eurovision voting. Isreal for example were popular in the 70s but have been going down the scale ever since and the performance of the UK before and after the Iraq war is a startling contrast.
EXACTLY what I was thinking, Pandora - Drew Barrymore!

Can't get over how the lead female singer reminds me of Drew Barrymore.
Strong resemblance.

That side-mirror effect at 1:11 almost had me fooled. At first I thought, "Wow, that's a lot of singers!"

I watched the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. I like Tu te Reconnaitras and Eres Tu. But this song is something special- a song of lasting quality.

I really like this song, but it happened to be in the same year as Tu te Reconnaitras by Anne Marie David which I rate the best Eurovision song ever.

Stevwatson,
You are entitled to your opinion that Tu te reconnaitras is the best song ever, but bear
in my mind that the winning song of 1973 is
barely remembered today and the fact that
Eres Tu has sold more singles than Tu te
reconnaitras.Erest tu remains popular in
the four corners of the world. For example,
in Asia it is still played in the radios.

Well, Ann Marie David took the medal, but
she could not deny her song is never so
popolar as Eres Tu.
Ici les votes de jury suisse.
Douze Points pour Espagne
Dix Points pour Israel
