  • Very cool, never seen this before. Love Renoise!

  • So you have pause command on renoise track and programming plays only a single line from the pattern.

  • I'm thinking of getting an akai apc20. Not sure how well it will integrate with renoise.

  • what is that like with the redrum computer?

  • The beat sounds angry.

Like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli.

  • Are you using Automap? If so, is it necessary for full launchpad functionality?

  • @DarZaccaro no... and no.

  • @JBLanteigne

Thanks! In that case, I'm looking forward to using it with Renoise & Linux for live.

  • creativity killer

  • Good work getting this integrated. Must have been a right task.

Like others, I feel that it has limited use, and this is really nothing that I can't achieve with a mouse.

Also, there are no labels on the actual device to tell me what patterns I am selecting; if this indeed to be marketed at the live performance guys, they would need some better visual feedback. If they have to stare into the laptop monitor, then back at the pad, it kind of defeats the object...

    Very good, all the same!

  • I have to disagree, I now jam with this device quite a lot and I don't need to look at the screen to use it, the scene launch button row indicates where the beat is and when you enter edit mode in another pattern, it's blinking green rather than solid red, that's visual feedback.

Of course you can do all that with the mouse, the point is to be able to do it faster (the mute unmute) because you don't use the mouse... it's just a way to be able to improv live with renoise.. I wish I had 16 steps.

  • Yeah, the scene launch button may indicate all that, but it doesn't have any connection with what is happening in the sequencer.

Would be nice to be able to somehow transfer the track names onto the device.

  • Oh yes.. but that's pretty much impossible, however I could have like 64 presets each linked to a pad and I load them by pressing another button first.. but i'd rather have endless possibilities by using the sequencer along with the computer.. it's actually very doable and not annoying at all to do.

  • Cool. Thanks for the replies.

Not trying to be negative in any way; I just love discussing technology. You have done a superb job!

  • I fail to see the point of this external controller. Wow, you can make 8-step drums. Isn't that something?

  • The point is that it uses renoise, yes the song I'm demoing is pointless but you can have anything you want in any step.. basically this is more like a 64 steps sequencer.. but they aren't played one after the other, but each steps of each track can be completely different and you can change their content and length in real time. Anything renoise can do, this sequencer can. I'm currently waiting for a kit to build a 256 monome, I'll demo some more interesting use of Renoise with the monome soon.

  • Also, on a more personal point, I had fun building my own step sequencer... its major flaw is still that 8 steps is not practical but I still use this to jam live with other musician, its versatility (thanks to renoise) makes it better than the usual hardware drum machine.

  • Well I guess it could be useful for some live act. I do appreciate the effort you building this thing though I just don't find it practical... but if for fun? That's fine I guess.

  • its need to be faster...

  • you're right.

  • Is this much different from Ableton other than the verticle sequencing as opposed to being horizontal?

  • Wow did you even watch the video? this is not ableton live, it's a step sequencer made with the renoise pattern matrix.

    renoise is a tracker.

  • @funknotik I didn't say it was Ableton, re read the question.

  • must be awesome with the renoise matrix controller, lookin forward too seein some more advanced projects

  • oh I won't make a video to show that I can use renoise good.. However, I'm going to adapt this thing to my 256 monome once I get the parts to build it.. That would deserve a demo vid.

  • looks fancy , sounds not very good imo but i can imagine you just started with this.

  • I agree, I'm more demonstrating how it works.. hence the very very simple beats (and mostly shapes on the sequencer)

I am however working with this seq in more serious projects, since it's controlling renoise, there's no limit on its sound..

  • :)) Antimusical staf!

  • dude what break is that bro, i have heard that break on every track for the past 15 years, on every every album on every track!

  • probably the famous "amen break"

  • Yup, I didn't try to be original here, the simplest demo as possible.

  • it's all good, can't go wrong with an amen break right?

  • Can't go wrong.

  • @sighwonder

    lol

  • looks neat. i don't understand how it works really. i guess one has to try it to get the hang of it.

  • nice stuff !

  • This is totally tits. Great stuff JBL!

  • ...

    Good work!

    ...

  • you jbl, are a gentleman, and a scholar

  • The Launch Pad is sold for 199usd.

Before the launch pad, the alternative would have been to use a monome which is a bit more expensive.

  • That looks really Complicated for me, and also very Pricey! lol
