It is frightening to watch the guy with the SKS who nearly shot his friend with the Garand (who doesn't seem to be paying attention anyways...) just smiling and laughing up a potentially deadly situation. Bad news.
I hope one of two things happened; everyone involved swore off touching a gun for the rest of their lives. Or better yet and hopefully this one, they got some formal training since common sense doesn't seem to be one of their strong suits. It's terrifying to think that they drive.
Dont ride the bolt forward until your pointed in the direction you will shoot. Treat it as if your firing a shot. Just like dont put your finger on the trigger unless you mean to pull it soon after.
Slam fire is caused by the trigger assembly, not the firing pin. The SKS uses a floating pin. If it freezes in place you get a Hang fire. The weapon will discharge all the rounds in the magazine. Simple check to see if your SKS is prone to slamfire. Slide the bolt forward (no round in the chamber), and safty off.. Weapon would normaly be ready to fire. Holding the forestock with one hand, and the buttstock 4" above the ground. Let it drop on the butt stock. If it goes click, you have a problem.
man i swear, i'm just glad you guys are alright.. that was good video to show to my students on what unsafe shooting is all about, you guys need to mind your muzzle..
your weapon always needs to be pointed in a safe direction.. you guys several times crossed paths while talking and your weapons were pointed all over the place. BOOM! one mistake ends your fun and your at the emergency room saying your sorry to the parents of your friend.. u guys need some training
@shootload1911 both of us have since attended several appleseed events, and have cleaned up our act considerably, if you watch my more recent videos you wont see shenanigans like in this one
The reason it slamfired is probably because its a Yugo sks meaning it most likely has alot of cosmoline on the pin. Take the bolt out and spray brake cleaner down it and that should get it all out. Additionally your friends have terrible muzzle control and shouldn't hold a firearm till they know how to point one.
@RiflemanExpert Yes, yes sir it does. Whatever it was that happened here was bad practice. And I hate people that rip on the SKS for such things. It has NOTHING to do with the SKS, it has EVERYTHING to do with the owner of the firearm and their care and maintenance. "Oh I fucked up and feel stupid, lets blame the gun! Yeah! That'll make me feel and look better!" And then to post your stupidity on a public medium and again blame the gun.... *shakes head*
@IssunQuixotic If what happened here was truly and accident, it is what is called a hang fire, not a popped primer, or a slam fire, or a primer pop, or a misfire, or even a squib. Either it's a hang fire from when the bolt was closed, or buddy pulled the trigger. I say again, Shenanigans.
A slam fire is when the firing pin is stuck in the forward position and after pulling the trigger once the firearm will go full auto until the magazine is empty, but, you NEED to pull the trigger once first. Also, on a "we were safe" note...that was not safe at all, you have no idea where that bullet landed, a few seconds before, and your friend was dead. You should never charge your firearm until you are aiming at your target, even while hunting, the only exception is in war. Blarg.
Well oiling an SKS can cause as many problems as not oiling. Parts must not be left soaking wet because things like firing pins get frozen in place. I have seen people show up at ranges with rifles that were frozen shut from being put up soaked in oil.
The "chicken wing" is actually not incorrect with a semi-pistol grip stock. The angle of one's strong side elbow only makes a difference when there's a full pistol grip on the stock, as having the elbow up may cause discomfort on the shooter's wrist. Having your elbow somewhat elevated gives a more pronounced pocket where one places the stock's butt. Shooters with long arms when using short military stocks will almost have to have their elbow higher to achieve a comfortable grip.
You and your friend's firing stances and techniques were completely unsafe and incorrect. I don't know who taught you to shoot, but they did you no service in it. Keep your elbows down and keep the muzzle of EVERY firearm pointed down-range or at the ground, and do not EVER step in front of a person with a firearm in their hands. I don't care which way it is pointed. Like the others said, you two could have killed each other
@Gunslinger2294 youre spot on, we're lucky that no one got hurt, this incident woke us up a bit, we've taken classes and follow safe procedure while shooting now, check out some of my more recent videos and you wont see anyone walking around like this. BUT

@Gunslinger2294 On the other hand, in my fireteam our formations require us to be in front of other people with firearms..You just have to be smart about it imo
@leeleeleeleeleeleel1 For military and police fireteams, yes of course it is a given that friendlies will be down range from your own muzzle, but I was speaking in terms of range shooting, nothing for breaching or assult.
@Gunslinger2294 for long range accuracy and stability you should keep your elbows up, especially when firing the M1, this is not cqc, putting elboes down will cause the butt to have room to move and slide in the shoulder, this is what the marine corps taught me and how they have for 200 years
@RiflemanExpert Good to know, thanks for the insight. I have only ever fired from a seated or laying position and have always had elbows down for support and stability. I will take this into consideration the next time I stand to shoot.
@Gunslinger2294 dont be a nazi man best way to stay safe is to only have you gun loaded when you immediately after intend to shoot. When hunting with my friends i bring a shotgun loaded and my AR 15 unloaded on my back we are constantly breaking those rules and all is good ranges and range rules are for fags it takes only a little paranoia and some common sense to stay safe also never buy guns that can misfire like this thats retarded never seen a gun fail so dangerously
@deej1478 The sole purpose of range rules are to keep morons from hurting themselves or others. Also, even the most experienced shooters can have accidents as well, since they can easily become complacent. @Gunslinger2294 i no i contradicted myself but i am a very safe person really hate getting in trouble so am not reckless just not a fan of extremely strict rules if your 18 you should have the mental development to never hurt someone else with your firearm
SOMETIMES AN SKS PIN CAN BE FORCED IN INPROPERLY.WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE GUN WILL SLAM FIRE FULL AUTO UNTIL IT JAMS OR MAG. IS EMPTY.SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED THIS WAY.I BOUGHT AN SKS FROM A MAN FOR 25 BUCKS BECAUSE HE PUT A ROUND THRU HIS ROOF WHEN HE CHAMBERED A ROUND. TOOK 10 MINS. TO FIX THE GUN.
they sale spring loaded firing pins systems for the sks Im not sure on the state laws in altering a firearm it varies from place to place ; but its an alternative to the free floating pin and if you plan to fire that system alot or if it where a system you where in the field with and where unable to obtain the proper cleaning soulutions a spring loaded pin is what i would go for... but opinons are like assholes ... everybody has one
I have 2 SKS's, both Chinese made. Had em since I was 19 or so. Never once did they slam fire...you know why? CLEAN your GUNS when your done shooting em. The firing pin floats freely, so keep it clean and that won't happen.
Check to make sure the firing pin moves. It's supposed to travel back- and forward inside the bolt. From what I've seen, cleaning everything outside the bolt won't help. You have to make sure the bolt moves, and that it isn't protruding from the channel in front. If it doesn't move, don't shoot it.
@tequese lol no but they're both larger calibers, at least compared to more common rifle calibers like .223 or 7.62x39. Both ways the bottom line is - you don't want to be tucking in your arm with a larger caliber, and if you do you'll be regretting it when it ass rapes your shoulder. I've shot large calibers and I know firsthand chicken wings aren't something to be ashamed of like people like to pretend, nor is it always bad posture. You can't shoot a larger rifle like a small assault rifle.
@magicalhearingman Well i suppose it depends on what your doing and how good you want to be at it. Obviously you will hold a 22 different to a 308 and a 308 different to a 300Win. But when I say "Chicken wing" its because your arm appears to be 90degrees from your body, do that with a 10g and the shock will go right through your whole shoulder. It should be more like 60 degrees. pretty much anything is better than 90.
@mark16443 I inspect and maintain guns professionaly, 99% of weapon malfuctions are a result of carbon build up in the weapon. I garuntee his definition of clean and my definition of clean are very different.
@goodinsrt8 I garuntee you have no idea what happened beyond that something obstructed the firing pin channel, it so happens that I know what happened, as I was there and able to inspect the gun myself... I dont care if youre a professional gunsmith theres no way that you can inspect a gun to determine that powder buildup caused an accident when all you have is a 720p video. There was no powder buildup, it was popping primers, an issue that I didnt even know about at the time...
@goodinsrt8 Ive had a gunsmith look at the rifle, he determined that the rifle's firing pin was abnormally long, watch the follow up video and drop your rediculous attitude
@IssunQuixotic I would say the same thing if I didn't want to loose customers by telling them that they have filthy weapons. Abnormally long fireing pin, are you serious? Go get your money back if you payed for that bullshit. Firing pins are too short if anything, especially in an sks. clean the gun and you'll be fine. I don't have an attitude, I just know what m talking about.
@goodinsrt8 its an sks man, just comes with the gun. that one looked like a yugo one, which is even worse than my norinco one which is already really sketchy. like uploader said, muzzle safety is the MOST important safety
This will happen when goofballs don't clean them out before firing, my friend had the same problem until I took it all apart and scrubbed every single part and removed all the cozmoline.
These guys should not be allowed around firearms. Amateurs. Every rifle can slam-fire. I've seen FN FAL, M1 and M14/MiA slamfire.
Read an article by Wayne Faatz 'Slam-Fire!" It is almost exclusively dedicated to M1 and M1A/M14 slam firing. So much so that a copy of this article is included in each case with M1A Springfield Armory ships. So "SKS is prone to slamfiring" and "that is whu M1 is so much better weapon" is a total croak of shit.
Nice video, guys. I wish I could go out to shoot rifles with all of you. I'm 20, and I've been waiting for years to be able to go out and shoot guns. I've only fired 20 guage and 410 shotguns.
@SwaffyX Thanks for the kind words, Im sure there are plenty of great places to shoot around San Antonio, just be sure to learn from my mistakes, I managed to get through mine with no injury but sometimes its better to be good than lucky! Shoot with people that have experience or go to a class like an Appleseed to start out
@IssunQuixotic Once I move out of my parents' house, I plan on buying myself an M1A SOCOM 16. They are expensive (around $1200), but I think it would be fun to own and learn off of. I'd rather not start small, but if I do, I'd begin with an M1 Carbine. Your SKS looks beautiful by the way.
@senny502 The SKS is, infact, a heterosexual. Besides, who wants to spend 1$ for one bullet on the 30-06 when I can get four 7.62x39's for the same price?
Also, shove a aperture on the SKS, bam, got yourself a long range lean mean killing machine. I'd rather have an SKS than an M1, but that's only because of ammo price and magazine capacity.
This is a Yugo right? I've heard mixed things about them, but you hear all kinds of crap on the internets. I have a Russian and I'm getting a Chinese very soon, had nothing like this happen to me yet but my buddy got really lucky when he bought his Russian with a chrome bayonet and a spring-loaded firing pin already installed!
I love my Russian sks. Payed 250$ for it. Never had anything like that happen. And I have fired an unbelievable amount of ammo through it. I tell ya. Russians know how to make some good rifles. But on the other hand. I really like garands. Well made strong more power. But un necessary. For just plain shooting I will take my sks cause there cheaper to buy and cheaper to fire.
T his happened to me my SKS jammed and I had it pointed at roughly 70 degrees into the air, I pulled the bolt back and let it slide forwards like normal and it slamfired... I felt so horrible when I realised I just launched one that could land anywhere
@303BoltAction thats the scary thing, I have no idea beyond the capeability of the bullet, which if you assume the a 45 degree angle should be about 3 miles away, which would put it deep in the forest in that direction. Luckily theres nothing but wilderness in the direction it was pointed for even further than that, but I hope that no one was logging that day
It's when the firing pin gets stuck in the forward position, then you pull the bolt back to chamber the first round. Because the pin is stuck forward it sets the first round off, which then pushes the bolt back to load a next round and sets that off too. Worst case senario you get a run away gun till it empties the magazine. In some states dumbass prosecutors will argue that you have an illegal machinegun despite the fact a slam fire is a weapons malfunction.
With the SKS it's easy to prevent. It usually happens when the bolt gets gunked up from lack of cleaning. Every time I take my SKS out, I always take the bolt apart, give the pin a good wipe down with Hoppes 9, and take another small patch soaked in Hoppes 9 at the end of a paper clip and wipe down the inside of the bolt.
@CommonSenceMafia The SKS has no lineage to the Ak 47 whatsoever. Different designers, different bolt locking mechamisms, differing gas system. The only thing common is the round they fire.
my sks has misfired like that before, but only after fixing a jamm . keep the your rifle aimed vertical when loaded, especially when releasing the slide. tell your buddy to grip that m1 with all 5 fingers, and tuck in. that looks painfull! eh you guys both shoot weird, nvmd...

everybody who keeps yapping about the elbow out or in , might want to consider this
- Elbow Out or In is whatever the shooter prefers if it works for you, if you are accurate, then by all means go in or out as you wish
- No pistol grip typically means OUT as it gives you a better pocket and recoil mgmt
- Pistol grip typically mean IN as it is easier on the wrist.
- Tactical , house clearing.. you'de probably want IN
But you'de probably not be house clearing with a bloody SKS, would ya?

Not only is your gun dangerous, you could have killed your best friend there.
blackbeard456 3 months ago
Yep, Had an SKS slamfire on me and nearly break my right thumb when the handle came back. spring pin retention is a must IMHO.
hallis1 3 months ago
I have 2 SKS's, both Chinese made. Had em since I was 19 or so. Never once did they slam fire...you know why? CLEAN your GUNS when your done shooting em. The firing pin floats freely, so keep it clean and that won't happen.

He's aware the rifle can slam-fire yet he choses to release the bolt on a live round directly behind his friend. Amazing!
a2birdcage1 4 months ago
Check to make sure the firing pin moves. It's supposed to travel back- and forward inside the bolt. From what I've seen, cleaning everything outside the bolt won't help. You have to make sure the bolt moves, and that it isn't protruding from the channel in front. If it doesn't move, don't shoot it.

tequese 4 months ago
@tequese When firing a larger caliber it's recommended. You can't tuck in your arm when shooting a 10 gauge slug for example....
magicalhearingman 4 months ago
@magicalhearingman so your saying a 308 round is compairable to a 10g in recoil?
tequese 4 months ago
@tequese lol no but they're both larger calibers, at least compared to more common rifle calibers like .223 or 7.62x39. Both ways the bottom line is - you don't want to be tucking in your arm with a larger caliber, and if you do you'll be regretting it when it ass rapes your shoulder. I've shot large calibers and I know firsthand chicken wings aren't something to be ashamed of like people like to pretend, nor is it always bad posture. You can't shoot a larger rifle like a small assault rifle.
magicalhearingman 4 months ago
@magicalhearingman Well i suppose it depends on what your doing and how good you want to be at it. Obviously you will hold a 22 different to a 308 and a 308 different to a 300Win. But when I say "Chicken wing" its because your arm appears to be 90degrees from your body, do that with a 10g and the shock will go right through your whole shoulder. It should be more like 60 degrees. pretty much anything is better than 90.
tequese 4 months ago
@tequese Oh ok, I was thinking of 60 degrees as still a chicken wing lol

@goodinsrt8 he said in the video it was clean and also it was in the description
mark16443 3 months ago
@mark16443 I inspect and maintain guns professionaly, 99% of weapon malfuctions are a result of carbon build up in the weapon. I garuntee his definition of clean and my definition of clean are very different.
goodinsrt8 3 months ago 2
@goodinsrt8 I garuntee you have no idea what happened beyond that something obstructed the firing pin channel, it so happens that I know what happened, as I was there and able to inspect the gun myself... I dont care if youre a professional gunsmith theres no way that you can inspect a gun to determine that powder buildup caused an accident when all you have is a 720p video. There was no powder buildup, it was popping primers, an issue that I didnt even know about at the time...
IssunQuixotic 3 months ago
@IssunQuixotic Then tell me how a perfectly clean weapon would slam fire? You can't because they wont.
goodinsrt8 3 months ago
@goodinsrt8 Ive had a gunsmith look at the rifle, he determined that the rifle's firing pin was abnormally long, watch the follow up video and drop your rediculous attitude
IssunQuixotic 3 months ago
@IssunQuixotic I would say the same thing if I didn't want to loose customers by telling them that they have filthy weapons. Abnormally long fireing pin, are you serious? Go get your money back if you payed for that bullshit. Firing pins are too short if anything, especially in an sks. clean the gun and you'll be fine. I don't have an attitude, I just know what m talking about.
goodinsrt8 3 months ago
@goodinsrt8 thanks for the advice
IssunQuixotic 3 months ago
@goodinsrt8 its an sks man, just comes with the gun. that one looked like a yugo one, which is even worse than my norinco one which is already really sketchy. like uploader said, muzzle safety is the MOST important safety
p2rider3426 3 months ago
@p2rider3426 Muzzle safety is the most important safety, but a clean weapon is a reliable weapon. And a clean weapon wont slamfire.

This will happen when goofballs don't clean them out before firing, my friend had the same problem until I took it all apart and scrubbed every single part and removed all the cozmoline.
semiautoriflelover1 4 months ago
These guys should not be allowed around firearms. Amateurs. Every rifle can slam-fire. I've seen FN FAL, M1 and M14/MiA slamfire.
Read an article by Wayne Faatz 'Slam-Fire!" It is almost exclusively dedicated to M1 and M1A/M14 slam firing. So much so that a copy of this article is included in each case with M1A Springfield Armory ships. So "SKS is prone to slamfiring" and "that is whu M1 is so much better weapon" is a total croak of shit.

@SwaffyX Thanks for the kind words, Im sure there are plenty of great places to shoot around San Antonio, just be sure to learn from my mistakes, I managed to get through mine with no injury but sometimes its better to be good than lucky! IssunQuixotic 4 months ago
@IssunQuixotic Once I move out of my parents' house, I plan on buying myself an M1A SOCOM 16. They are expensive (around $1200), but I think it would be fun to own and learn off of. I'd rather not start small, but if I do, I'd begin with an M1 Carbine. Your SKS looks beautiful by the way.

senny502 4 months ago
@senny502 The SKS is, infact, a heterosexual. Besides, who wants to spend 1$ for one bullet on the 30-06 when I can get four 7.62x39's for the same price?
Also, shove a aperture on the SKS, bam, got yourself a long range lean mean killing machine. I'd rather have an SKS than an M1, but that's only because of ammo price and magazine capacity.
MetalSights 4 months ago
This is a Yugo right? I've heard mixed things about them, but you hear all kinds of crap on the internets. I have a Russian and I'm getting a Chinese very soon, had nothing like this happen to me yet but my buddy got really lucky when he bought his Russian with a chrome bayonet and a spring-loaded firing pin already installed!
Angelsweep 4 months ago
I love my Russian sks. Payed 250$ for it. Never had anything like that happen. And I have fired an unbelievable amount of ammo through it. I tell ya. Russians know how to make some good rifles. But on the other hand. I really like garands. Well made strong more power. But un necessary. For just plain shooting I will take my sks cause there cheaper to buy and cheaper to fire.

yes bc objects can be gay, and i don't see whats not manly about a .308 semi auto rifle
Paladinandstuff 4 months ago
@Paladinandstuff very true, but neither are .308, the garand is a 30-06 and the sks is a 7.62 39 which is a lot shorter than a .308

where did that round go ?
303BoltAction 4 months ago
@303BoltAction thats the scary thing, I have no idea beyond the capeability of the bullet, which if you assume the a 45 degree angle should be about 3 miles away, which would put it deep in the forest in that direction. Luckily theres nothing but wilderness in the direction it was pointed for even further than that, but I hope that no one was logging that day
IssunQuixotic 4 months ago
@IssunQuixotic at least it was bush but thats a scary thought, ill be sure to keep my sks pointed down at all times
303BoltAction 4 months ago
@IssunQuixotic What is slam fire?
DmitriRussian 3 months ago
@DmitriRussian
Ulysses1994XF04 3 months ago
With the SKS it's easy to prevent. It usually happens when the bolt gets gunked up from lack of cleaning. Every time I take my SKS out, I always take the bolt apart, give the pin a good wipe down with Hoppes 9, and take another small patch soaked in Hoppes 9 at the end of a paper clip and wipe down the inside of the bolt.
