On another note, have a look at the way Switzerlands political system works, it is an infinitely fairer system of politics. People need to learn the difference between Socialism and Communism, one is a fair system working to help everyone better their circumstances, the other is China. The biggest loosers in a socialist system are the financial elite and as they are the biggest lobby/pressure groups they will never allow it.
I don't have a definitive idea of how to solve the state of our political system, I personally would like to see some of the Swiss polices incorporated into our system. I would also like to see some Canadian polices incorporated as well. There is not enough space to go into detail, but if you are interested Google has a wealth of info on them both. There are many things that Canadian and Swiss governments could do better but on the whole, I think they are better than the current UK system.
I hope that turn out for this election is tiny and we end up with a hung parliament as well. We need to send a message to all politicians that WE ARE NOT HAPPY!!! and their behaviour has been thoroughly out of order. Definitely, MP's like Cameron are using the expenses saga for electioneering. It's strange he is though, as he used the expenses system to is advantage and claimed thousands upon thousands for his rent, even though he's very wealthy.
Yet now he says the system needs changing. If it was so wrong, why did he claim from it?

Hey people, I think we have to be a bit more realistic about the expenses saga.
For years, MP's were allowed to claim money like a 'wage top up'. It was the norm, MP's were led to believe it was OK.
Some MP's broke the rules, some broke the law. But most simply took advantage of a flawed wage top up system.
I dare say, most people would have done the same.
In most cases, it wasn't stealing. In most cases, no rules were broken.
Maybe the MP's deserve to be cut some slack.....

On another note, have a look at the way Switzerlands political system works, it is an infinitely fairer system of politics. People need to learn the difference between Socialism and Communism, one is a fair system working to help everyone better their circumstances, the other is China. The biggest loosers in a socialist system are the financial elite and as they are the biggest lobby/pressure groups they will never allow it.

I don't have a definitive idea of how to solve the state of our political system, I personally would like to see some of the Swiss polices incorporated into our system. I would also like to see some Canadian polices incorporated as well. There is not enough space to go into detail, but if you are interested Google has a wealth of info on them both. There are many things that Canadian and Swiss governments could do better but on the whole, I think they are better than the current UK system.

It's all very well to make promises about making parliament more responsive to the people. All very reminiscent of what Blair said last time there was a government change.
So the question is as follows:
1. Did Blair fail to delivery a more accountable government?
2. Did Blair succeed in delivering a more accountable government, only our expectations have risen since then?
3. In another decade's time, will we as a voting public be just as susceptible to the same promises being made again?

Also David, its about time we cut up the UK credit card. and split our £ links with the US. Clear the debt first before you make promises you cant afford. Go on put the credit card away, once your back is against the wall, you will achieve far more. We need a David Hatchet Cameron as leader and no "Yellow Belly" Sort out the criminals (No acceptions) with a term for a crime, prison means prison, no tags, no suspended, public vote on judgements. It all needs a good shake up.

Yes, Dave you really need to get stuck in now and start to be more positive about explaining exactly what the policies are. I do realise that Labour has stolen a lot of the good ideas over the years but the people need to feel confident in your ability to lead us back into econonic prosperity. You have my vote but there are those out there who are still undecided, why I have no idea but voters need to have the choice clearly spelled out to them. LABOUR REPRESENT HIGHER TAXES AND MORE & MORE DEBT

Another way would be to say that "Labour represent paying a decent amount for maintaining decent public services, and when economic times are bad, they are prepared to borrow to maintain the same high standards (a debt, obviously, that will have to be paid back when we can afford it again)".
It's not that I'm trying to detract from your argument, but I do so detest these one-sentence propaganda phrases that deliberately gloss over the details.

The only good thing this Government has done in 13 years is to bring in the minimum wage which benefitted lower paid workers. Any Government would be popular giving money away to those who won't work and taxing everyone else to the hilt. Let's get back to benefitting those who are prepared to work for a change. Don't see much evidence of better education when some kids are leaving school unable to read or write, only cert. they get is an ASBO. Hospitals filthy & understaffed, need I say more?

So what is your definition of "decent public services"? At what point does a service become un-decent? Would you like to get into a comparison game of various services between 1997 and now? Mr Cameron isn't - which says a lot.
He's careful now not to overplay the "cut-taxes-cut-spending" game at this election. He recognises that there are votes to be lost in cutting too far. As was proved in the naughties, if you pay more, you get more out.

1. I said nothing outside the topic of the quality of public services - you made no comment on these.
2. Economy was not in surplus in 1997. In fact it is only since the crisis hit that we have reached the debt we had in 1997.
3. Corrupt politicians are hardly unique to one party.
4. As a nation, we are travelling more often and further now than we ever have.
5. I have no connections with Labour. I was once a member of the Tories.

I pay full UK taxes. I won't give away any more of my personal information here, but suffice to say that I have significant UK interest (much more in fact, than in France). You are attacking a straw man.
I heartily encourage you to read the Telegraph and Mail. I never said anything to diss either of these papers.

I do believe that paying more for [almost-anything] does have its rewards (both in public and private sectors). Mercs cost more than Scooters for example!
Of course, the argument as a whole is far more complicated. But the point of my original statement (which you've correctly quoted back) was only to present the other point of view. Nothing more.
