  • fdsafsdafsdasfdafsdasfdasfda

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha, great :D

  • ok, eye-jaffa....eye-joofa...eye-...I GIVE UP!

  • retarded people making fun out of the name, don´t you realise it is more than one word?

    eyja= islands, fjalla=mountain, jökull=glacier

Iceland is one of the word's most beautiful places! :)

  • @geniousboyGR Retarded because we aren't familiar with a particular language? Sorry but not everyone is going to know Icelandic.

  • @kingjstin not knowing a word is logical, but making fun out of words of foreign languages much more ancient than yours is something i call "retarded".

i said "retarded people making fun out of the name", not "retarded people who don't know icelandic" ;-)

  • @geniousboyGR you might be a genious, geniousboy, but you're very hard to irony, ain't ya?

P.S. Every place is one of the world's most beautiful places.

  • Ay-Jaf-Jah-La-Joe-Kool

Thats how I pronounce it :/

  • i am from iceland...........that was hillarius XD

  • Haha, that was eazy for me:D

  • Comment removed

  • Pronounciation is: ay ya, fia dla, yeah, cool

That last part "cool" will not sound right though.

  • @tobbi4010 That's what she said!

  • islandmountainglacier

  • THE NEWS REPORTERS LOL

  • Thums up ifyou were bored and just typed in "Your Doing it Wrong"

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha this is epic

  • 0:17 is priceless!!! Eya-fulucku-glu.... lol

  • Isn't it redundant to say "Eyjafjallajokull Glacier"?

  • There is no T sound at the end of Eyjafjallajokull, alot of people pronounce yo-kut,

which just makes you think of yogurt, it be more like Yo-ku-dl, a click on the tongue, when pronouncing dl. Look up how the natives pronounce it.

  • _A - Ya ` Fyat - La ` Yo - Kut. _ What's so difficult about it?

    ` It's only SIX syllables.

In fact, it's easier than trying to say:

    Su-Per-Cal-Lee-Frej-Jil-Lis-Tic-Ex-Pe-El-Lee-Doh-Shus. ` ☺_

  • I'm learning Icelandic, but even I pronounced it right the first time!

  • AND HERE I AM a real Icelander who can SPEAK THIS WORD eyjarfjallajökull HAHAHAHAHAH

  • I assume the "your doing it wrong" is directed at the people who decided to name something eyjafjnfd$@#&jokll or whatever the fuck its called!

  • @gunterdak that was the point of the entire video.

  • @gunterdak eyjarfjallajökull HAHAHAHAHAAH my mountain

  • this reminds me of how we have 40 different spellings for ghadafi. Language is so facisnating. I still do not think I can wrap my mouth around the name of this volcano, because I am not used to the sounds of the language, but it is good people are posting guides.

  • Should be named like:

Poor country with no nukes volcano

  • @Fokogrilo Because the presence nukes are such a credible measure on which to judge an entire fucking country. YOU ASS AYE! YOU ASS AYE!

  • Great video! We're featuring it today on Quivertree's Facebook and Twitter pages!

  • XD i cant get enough of people failing at icelandic XD

  • At least it's easier to pronounce than Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu.

  • Looks like some1 just put a random name, like just wiped their hands over the keyboard.

  • I'm Swedish and i can say it whitout any further problems. the name is ridicioulus tho..

  • I got stuck in Tin-A-Beef (Tenerife) i was annoyed and scared at same time coz i had to get back to school xD

  • 0:16 was an epic fail!, i don't even think he finished it off... eyjafja..... NEXT!!!!

  • Who was the idiot who named it that way in the first place ?

  • @BossPanzer not really a idiot its actually easy to say it :P i even tought a girl from thai to say it right XD

  • @tommmiin You're not funny

  • @BossPanzer im not trying to be funny im dead serius

  • @BossPanzer im not trying to be funny im dead serius

  • haha they all seemed correct to me..

  • D: its not hard!

    Eyjafjallajökull! xD

  • 0:26 was decent

  • so as a Norwegian it sounds something like: eyjafjatlajøkutl.

I can pronounce it, but not very fast :P

  • i can name volcanoes too:

    fygasdfghijrdteaswsrdftyguiopopkijuyhftr

  • @N1ckyurk0w No you can't.

  • @N1ckyurk0w no no, that's fygasdfghijrdteaswsrdftyguiopopkijuJLhftr

  • @YouKnowIttYT lol

  • Eia eia fee fi fo

  • glad you had a good laugh at the way we pronounce it, because every time we see or hear your language we laugh our asses off.

  • Eey-ja-la-jö-k-ull

  • EIA-FIA-TLA-IO-KUK

  • sounds more like arabic at 0:17

  • can't blame them for trying..

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • and the know how of pronouncing this word is important how? who gives a crap. volcano in iceland that cancelled a lot of flights and sucked ass. pretty sure everyone knows the one you'd be talking about.

  • @Kritik25 so much anger!!!! RAWR!!!!

  • @littlec916 angerrrrrrrrrr dangerrrrr raaaawwwrrrrr

  • i'm german and i can speak a little bit of icelandic and for me (and the others of our courses) it's very easy to pronounce the name... in fact, it consists of three (much shorter) words, eyja (island), fjalla (-->fjöll=mountains), jökull (glacier)

  • @wetterfrosch1984 Its easy to pronounce for me, an English speaker, up to the very last sound. My tongue won't cooperate with me to do it.

  • @wetterfrosch1984 For English speakers, it looks like one huge mess of letters. If it were broken down, even though we don't know that the words mean, it would make more sense in our heads.

  • This made my day XD

  • Now imagine if they had a volcano named Fjallmeðfulltafvatniogjöklaogsemgeturgosiðfljótlegaéggetekkitalaðtungumáliðalmennilega. Then the volcano's name does more damage than the volcano itself.

  • @artman40 for this google created the translate speaker :D!

  • @artman40 The news reporters would be like "FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Half of 'em are saying 'glacier' wrong!

  • People from Iceland! Your newsreporters are lucky the eruption wasnt in Poland. That would sound funny :-D

  • @CrrrazyDentist Yeah ri...oh!

  • In Dutch this means ''ejacujating dick''

  • @helmuthoorn gewoon niet. :P

  • @VibEGamingOfficial

Wel zoals ze het op ''Geen Stijl'' uitspraken en schreven.

    (''eyljakujaerkullkull'')

  • @helmuthoorn ...

  • Ayafa... nope ive lost it.

  • Eyjafulukublerr

  • Third was the best...

  • Haha I'm german and it took me about 11 days to learn this word^^

  • hahahahahahaha love this shit XD can't get enough of them trying to say Eyjafjallajökull XD

  • 91 people are news reporters.

  • eyjafulukutluh, 0:15 , say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • Haha this made me laugh!

  • A [AS IN THE LETTER]

    YA

    FYATTLER

    YERRRR

    KOOTTL

  • how do you get a t or a d sound at the end? I am Icelandic myself, this isn't hard at all. It's just three Icelandic words put together. Simple as that.

  • I have a friend who's from Iceland and she just came over my house like this second, I didn't have my headphones in like I normally would and she was like, "OH MY GOSH! That is sooooo wrong!" I told her that I couldn't pronounce it so she told me how it's supposed to sound. There's not ''T'' sound at the end.

  • Average number of letters per word in English: 4.5

Number of letters in Eyjafjallajökull: 16

  • @PlanckLimit Eyjafjallajökull is actually 3 words stuck together, German-style.

  • How do I pronounce it :

    Ei-jaff-jalla-jhou-cool

    I'm doing it wrong right?

  • im from iceland and eyjafjallajökull is not hard to say if u know icelandic ;)

  • @thecatgirl198 im faroese and i can pronounce it :D

  • @thecatgirl198 You want hard, try the French word for "rubber". >:3

  • @Lioyd1rving it is easier to speak some words like in french if u know the icelandic alphabet ;) it is not that hard to say it ;)

  • I think my pronounciation of Eyjafjallajökull comes pretty close to the native one ;)

But it's really hard for foreigners to know that these double "ll" are pronounced like "tl" or "dl". Knowing that, it already sounds more professional when you say it.

  • Eyjafjallajökull?

    more like sdggftbhghnhmjdgtfryjfrn

  • Comment removed

  • The old viking language

  • eyjafjallajökull & Vaðlaheiðarvegagerðarmannaverkfærageymsluskúrslyklakippuhringurinn hahahahaha fyndið= funny

  • I still can't pronounce it... imagine making ti into a 10 word tounge twiater

  • acctually, this word comes from 3 icelandic words...

    'Eyja' = island

    'Fjalla' = Mountains

    'jökull' = Glacier

    'Eyja'fjalla'jökull'

    'island'mountains'glacier' !

  • 0:26 was the closest, I think

  • 0:17 ayjafulluketluh? XD, what the fuck?

  • @AsukoLucario

haha that guy sounds like a muslim XD

  • I love how it just sounds like he's saying gibberish.

  • got an idea, ill make a land mark and im gonna name itwqioyhodchoiashduihi >:D

  • You stupid icelandic people spreading unneccessary stupid characters inside. Why not write öüfeljöfä *click* like in the wikipedia sound file, no you write eyjafallajöwefkwefwefowefpkwef234902opewfewflpqew.

  • @ensignjoe It's made out of 3 words and as long as you don't understand them it's hard to pronounce. It's as easy for us to say as for you to say ''Magicdogman'', you understood it so it wasn't hard.

  • Hahah "Ayaffjadlajajoerkuel glacier"?

  • Mt. Rainier, very east to pronounce, why cant all volcanoes be like that?

  • ey ah F E ah all ah joke ohl... ey aha fee aha jo cool... ey ya jaffar is not cool... umm... eye ahhh fear jaffar jokes all day long... ok, it's hard...

  • my geology professor just calls it "Mount Unpronounceable"

  • @maywenearedhel Haha mine calls it the unspellable-unpronounceable volcano

  • @maywenearedhel lol :D

  • The soundclip sounds nothing like the real thing.

Look up "How to pronounce Eyjafjallajokull (a message from an Icelander)" on youtube for the real pronounciation.

  • eyjafjallajökull means islandmountainglacier in english

  • eyjafjallajökull means islandmountainglacier in english

  • Eyjafjallasdfsfasdfkldsafjkull

  • lol looks like gibberish.

  • 0:31 and the faroese xD

  • LOOOOOOOL!!!! HAHAHAHAH xD

  • Icelandic trolls created the name for this volcano, simply by falling asleep with their forehead on the keyboard. Very trollish language, if you will...

  • There is no freeking D or T in the end!

  • The first (British) guy actually doesn't do a bad job. One of my really good friends is from Iceland and I stayed with her and her family. They tried to teach me how to say this and lots of other things in Icelandic. It's the hardest language ever (coming from a linguist who speaks five languages!).

  • eya fjapla jorkle

    iafia ye yoko

  • It's not really that hard to pronounce it I think. But then again, I'm from Norway.

Up in the north of Norway, there's a tunnel called "Pytjehåjen".

    So yeah. :p

  • Wikipedia's sound clip doesn't help at all.

  • apparently Icelandic is the hardest language to learn....

  • @blingyruss the worlds smartest man learned it in a week and was in a live interview on an icelantic tv show.

  • @blingyruss No, it isent.

  • Let's just call it Kevin.

    *Hetalia fan! :D*

  • @freemovies411 hahaha XD

  • @MrGimpurin Did you read that one fanfiction? With the title of this volcano? :D

  • @freemovies411 can't say that i have

  • @MrGimpurin It's on fanfiction(dot)net and it's a must-read. XP (Among other fics I could list but won't. XP)

  • Vá hvað þetta er vitlaust borið fram. Útlendingar þurfa að læra að bera fram orðið Eyafjallajökull.

  • this is a legit word?

  • @PhillipP93

    Yeah, lol. Its icelandic :)

  • Well, atleast the next volcano will be easier to pronounce, Katla ... if they get that wrong, then they fail -.-

  • LOLOLOL, I'm not Icelandic but I can still pronounce it ^^

I keep trying to teach my friends and family how to and they're just like O_o

    Gotta love Iceland :)

  • I still can't pronounce it.

  • eyjafja-your-flight-cancelled-not-cööl.

  • @venushalley so.

    fucking

    funny :)!

    made

    my

    day!

  • @venushalley rofl

  • It's like being in a restaurant where they have fancy names on the menu in their own language. "yeah, I'll have the aye-ya-lo-yo-la-wtf-lolwut?"

  • It seems, that in Icelandic there are both contraction of vowels and insertion of consonants on places where you don't expect them (at least compared to the written language). But this is of course from a standpoint of a foreigner, who doesn't know, what morphems exist in Icelandic.

  • Icelandic trolls.

  • @halfahuman SHUT UP!!!!!

  • @halfahuman fuck you

  • simply like aye (justin Bieber's ay-ay-ay in one time) y then a don't like english a just like when you scream when you're scared (: we've got aye-ya- fyalla (every a is like when you're scared like AAAAAA it's so scary or something hehe) aye-ya-fjalla-yu ( the o is like when you thinking like "uuuuhh no" or something like that not english o) aye-ya-fyalla-yokull there ya go (; eyjafjallajökull -aye-yafyalla-yokull :D like this if it helped ya :D

  • Well keep amusing you with pronuciation issues so long as you keep updating Eve Online.

  • @MrAmerica1995 ... wow... Best deal ever, we'll do our best. :)

  • The first two were actually pretty close, compared to some of the attempts here in America.

  • You're doing a pretty good job making your language unapproachable, icelandic friends.

  • I'd like to see Microsoft Sam do better...

  • eins gott að Fimmvörðuháls varð ekki eins frægur, þá hefðu fréttamenn verið í djúpum skít :-))))

  • It's pronounced "fuck you ice hobbits."

  • It's hilarious on SNL when they have the "Who wants to be a millionaire" skit, and the question is about where the volcano is, with a bunch of Icelandic places. XD

  • Iceland would be disappointed in these people :\

He also says hi back to Norway.

  • Funny! =) Norway says hi! :D

  • @0FaceMan0 funny thing is hes somehow trying to sound clever and serious... making it alot funnier :D

  • ahahhaha þessir útlendingar

  • these are the only written books in the world about the Heathen(Celtic) Ásatrú period so I think we know where we(and our language) come from.

  • there are books in the National library from the year 1200 that most educated people here in Iceland(including myself) can read today, and I believe Icelandic is more related to Old English then it is to the German Celtic languages

  • it sounds like someone vomited while naming it..

  • Prevent all creatures from flying

    D:

  • Eye-yuh-fi-yuh-ja-mo-cha-shake

  • The first one is not even right

  • Just call it "Ehy fuck off!" mountain.

  • I remember reading about this the day after it happened in the paper. The name of the glacier was in the fine-print below the main photo. I stared at it for like 10 seconds in disbelief thinking, "What the hell kind of typo is that? No, that can't be an actual word. A cat must have walked across the keyboard or something."

  • @MaxwellSDSU Just to say your comment had me laughing for at least a minute

  • @MaxwellSDSU theoatmeal . com / comics / volcano_ name

  • @MaxwellSDSU That's how they named the volcano.

  • Midgard

  • I think Welsh reporters would have had an easier time with this, since the alveolar lateral fricative, written in Icelandic as 'll', is also found in Welsh, also written as 'll'.

  • Holy fuck, I can't even say that the wrongway. Eh, I think I'll stick to speaking learning to speak Japanese.

  • too.....many...fucking....letters!!

  • BBC I'm ashamed of you: 0.18 "ay-yaffa lokoot ...leuh". Angela Rippon, come back and thump this idiot !

  • "Otherwise known as E15" (Wikipedia) ...NO!!!!

It's not that hard to learn - aagh!! CRETINS!!!!
