The fall of the USSR has led to what is going on today. There was nothing to keep the west from doing what it has done once the USSR dissolved. There was authoritarian power there. There is authoritarian power here. What we need to try is true democracy where the people get to vote on issues, not just representatives. That is worth a try.
@WisdomThroughLogic you are looking at the picture of a nations achievements, not what the nation did to its people by enforcing its overzealous state rule. My parents come from the eastern bloc (Croatia, then known collectively as part of Yugoslavia), the USSR was probably worse off. People spying on their neighbours, their wives, brothers, sisters, senseless paranoia and hysteria, all generated on the back of the 'glory of the people', a load of bollocks is what it was.
You can say whatever you want, but it does not make it true. Many people who actually lived in Soviet Union (myself included) miss the country. Those who destroyed it, did it against the wishes of the population. It was a betrayal by a small group of apparatchiks who wanted to take power and privatize (steal) all that was created by Soviet people.

So many empires and world powers have broken and fallen to pieces in the last 100 years. Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, Nazi Reich, Japanese Empire all ended. The British Empire broke apart, and the USSR (certainly a powerful and repressive empire, ask an Estonian or Pole) has fallen apart since the 1980/90s. And in the last 10 years especially, the American empire is collapsing from within. Hopefully the U.S. empire collapses and nothing takes its place, except freedom and independence.

So many empires and world powers have broken and fallen to pieces in the last 100 years. Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, Nazi Reich, Japanese Empire all ended. The British Empire broke apart, and the USSR (certainly a powerful and repressive empire, ask an Estonian or Pole) has fallen apart since the 1980/90s. And in the last 10 years especially, the American empire is collapsing from within. Hopefully the U.S. empire collapses and nothing takes its place, except freedom and independence.

Well, to put in personal terms, imagine yourself a farmer in USSR growing enough crops under Lenin's old NEP such that you could feed your family (barely).Then, after Lenin's death, Stalin's Cheka comes in the night, puts a bullet in your wife's head, takes your land, and since you are strong, sends you to a forced labor camp.

My point was that there wasn't really anyone to put a stop to it. Be it Germany, Denmark or Belarus starting a war. No one took up the role of world police (and why should they?) and put a strong hand in. League of nations (UN basically if I remember correctly) didn't do anything really meaningful.

@oliverlaw02 I agree with bringing back the CCCP, but under Bolshevik-Leninist policies as in Orthodox Marxism of Lenin. Unfortunately the KPRF, while I support them, still wont let go of Stalinist policies, and embrace Trotskyism. Under B-L policies, a true workers state will form, and by example, the former soviet republics will re-join the union. That said, I would be happy to see the KPRF take majority in the Duma, and their close.

I started studying Russian history and learning the language itself. Before I did I was arrogant and thought that Communism was bad, but after a few weeks I realized that even Democracy in Russia is far from perfect.

I'm not a Russian, but there's no way an authoritarian state can be good for the individual citizen. And even though manufacturing fell when the USSR collapsed, USSR goods were not quality good at all.
