  • alright not to be mean bro but you sound high 1:15-1:28. I appreciate all the help and information. I have same CPU and MOBO. I am running the prolimatech for cooling. near the beginning you said stable clocks' I did get a message from them saying my PC was good(intelburn) but what should my temps be around? I had real temp running during this. (all pre overclock) appreciate all the help. I want to overclock badly but not bad enough to ruin anything

  • look on esl :)

  • eu/fr/#/fr/usergallery/965964/ i can make 4.4 ghz :D

  • Thanks for the video, I am using what you taught me right now. When you mentioned you would try to run a 24 hour CPU test, is that OK to do to your processor? Would that be bad for it in any way? It just seems like it could cause damage to the processor. Thanks!

  • @how2backtrack It is more than fine to run a stress test for 24 hours. It is how a lot of OC'ers make sure their clocks are stable. If you fear that it may cause damage, then you should slowly increase your clocks and find a reasonable load temperature when running shorter stress test.

If its stable after a 24hour stress test, you're good to go for the rest of that processor's life :P

  • This is the most extreme BASIC in overclocking... nice tutorial buddy. I am trying to get my i7 930 to 4.4Ghz... if anyone has proper setitngs please share...

  • This is the most extreme BASIC in overclocking... nice tutorial buddy.

  • Time to overclock this son of a bitch! Haha nice video.

  • what kind of cooling do you use is the satndard fan ok?

  • SHould u be if you have liquid cooling?

  • @zeptonify I have 930 @ 3,9ghz. Using Prolimatech's Megahalems with push-pull fans (one 110CFM for push, 60CFM for pull) and it's smooth and stable

  • what bios version was this? because i had my chip OC'd fine a few months back, but i updated the bios and now i cant get it to boot OC'd, im thinking its something with the bios.

  • ow you have a h50 ,cool.

then i got my answer already.

    :)

i would have bought 2000 mhz mems

then you could put the mem multiplyer on 10x instead of 8x

i think it would have been better since you got he cpu multiplyer on 20x-22x

    it should be more stable.

  • why don't you use the EVGA programs they provide?

  • So would using the x21 muiltiplier @ 191 block speed be better then using x20 muiltiplier @ 200 block speed? Idk why but it seems like a wierd setting to me using x21muilitplier as it makes the RAM run it 1520mhz instead of 1600mhz when you use the x20 muiltiplier option.

  • I like the overclocking core i7 because core i7 very strong and power up

  • is overclocing the 930 to 4ghz going to damage the chip.

  • are the multiplyers unlocked

  • @crimson177 Not this chip, it only goes up to 22.

  • @Sm0kaCola i thought the default multiplyer was 20x , so on 22x you already put it higher right. or am i wrong? well anywways 22x is more then enough 4.0 ghz =4000/22=190 bclk 190x mem multiplyer 10x =1900mhz Ram (2000mhz dimms) mmmm, lol or bclk 200 thats 200x22x= 4.4 ghz 200x10x= 2000mhz Ram dimms wow you think i can run 4.0ghz with this processor and a h50 or h70 or will it get to hot?
  • Hey man, very informative vid for someone like me with little knowledge on overclocking. I have a question though. just out of curiosity what are your idle and full load temps? And what should i try and keep them under? Thanks for any info you can provide, keep up the good work.

  • Do you know if you can get any better results with the i7 950 and if there is anything else you should/ shlould not change?

  • @MrPumpkinmanSWE Not 100% sure on that but I'm going to say yes, You'll definitely get cooler temps than the 930 at the same clock speeds. I believe the 950 has a higher multiplier so achieving those higher clocks will be easier.

  • i have the same board and cpu, i have clocked at 3.67 183x20, and my memory running at 1460mhz at timings 11-11-11-29-88. however when i tune my memory to 9-9-9-25-34 it doesn't boot up even at 1.60volts ??

  • So pretty much 4Ghz is impossible on air. Am I right!

  • @soccersport No, there are several air coolers much better than the h50.

  • @Sm0kaCola well i have the frio and my temps are still through the roof can you please help me.

  • @soccersport What thermal paste did you use?

  • @Sm0kaCola the stock paste that came with the cooler. Should I buy better paste?

  • @soccersport I Would try re-seating the heatsink first just to make sure, if temps are still too hot I Would purchase some OCZ Freeze.

  • @soccersport are u using stock cpu cooler?

  • can i do the core i7 in every pc ? sry 4 english.. pls answer

  • @SteamSourceSDK you mean use a core i7 cpu in any pc?

  • @Sm0kaCola Yea !

  • @SteamSourceSDK No, it all depends on the motherboard, the i7 use 1366 motherboards.

  • Couple of questions, how satisfied are you with the H50? I've heard tell that the pump gets really annoying and loud and that it doesn't cool as well as a similar priced air fan. Second, what exactly do I look for in the burn test and Linx tests? You mentioned that if the burn test fails, one adjusts the Vcore voltage UP? Shouldn't it be down if I'm going to stabilize the system? Or did I just hear it wrong :D

  • when i disable vdroop it makes my system shut off and i need to clear cmos before it comes back on and it seems when i change voltage in the bios it stays at 0.940 on eleet and on occt it shows as 0.63 is there somthing im missing here that i need to do before i can disable it? i have the exact same board and cpu as in the video

  • @gavthetank Not sure what the problem is there, but I will look into it for you.

  • thank you.. . im starting to think its my power supply. . but i want to make sure before i get a new one . i didnt think it would be its 1000w.

  • @Sm0kaCola intel actually says that with the Vcore at or below 1.45V you are completely safe for a long time and 1.55V is absolute maximum

  • @SavaMarkovicPilot Oh I know, I'm just funny about pushing my clocks without WCing.

  • 1:30 made me laugh so much:) lool im getting this processor with a gtx 460 mainly for flight simulating, what cooler do you think is the bair minimum to suit the oc'ing of this sonofbertch? thx 8D

  • Nice video

    im wondering

is the i7 930 good for gaming

  • @watever2529 Yeah it works very well. I mainly got it for video encoding though.

  • @Sm0kaCola

    k thanks for answering

    i might get after all

  • This video helped me out alot man, successful intel burntest and prime95 at 4.0ghz

  • ummm what hotkeys do you use to get into bios? manual says "DEL" for some reason it doesn't work :(

I use the same MB and CPU as you.

  • @doaworld Hope I don't sound rude but! I would get content insurance first if you are having troubles accessing the bios cause it gets way harder than that dude! In other words do your homework before pushing any buttons in the bios once you find it...

how many times are you pushing the"DEL" key? and at what point during post?

  • @shtboxexpose

For some reason it doesn't show unless I turn on/off the power supply, else the "press DEL to enter setup" does not show on start up :/

    oh well :P

  • @doaworld I have same mobo and cpu EVGA SLi LE with i7 930 and you just need to press 2 or 3 times del button and it brings you to bios.

  • Good video man. Very informative and a safe start for anyone who wants to start overclocking their 930 (or similar core i7). Thanks!

  • @aramonadroj I've never watercooled before so i'm not sure how temps are. I'm pretty sure you can get quite a bit more out of your chip with WC though.

  • @Sm0kaCola You're running a Corsair H50, and you've never watercooled? H50 is a watercooler, just a very maintenance free easy ride water cooler.

  • @Puma2113 Yeah but its a closed loop, I didn't do anything but install it.

  • thanks a lot bro...got my 930 running smooth at 4 ghz!....quick question tho(this is my first time overclocking)....i ran the intel stress test and the core temps hovered around 70-74 degrees....do you think i should push it a little further? and if so, all i need to do is adjust the cpu host frequency a little higher right?

  • @arpan11 No problem man, glad you enjoyed it. Those temps are fine, you could push it just a tad more until its hitting about 80-85. This test will stress your CPU way more than anything else. You want idle temps of around 35-40.

  • How high should I be able to get my Ci7 930 with a Zalman CNPS9900?

  • @youngdones Only you can answer that question, watch your temps as you raise the clocks, if it becomes to a point where you're worried about temps, don't push it anymore. I'd say you can at least hit 3.6 and have it as a 24/7 setup. Maybe higher, I haven't used the CNPS9900, but the CNPS9700 was extremely good and got my Q9550 to 3.61GHz 24/7.

  • x19 clock has found to be more stable.

  • Cant you use the E-LEET tuning software that came with the board bios?

  • @asianknightmare Could, but I'm an uber geek and like to do everything manually :P

  • @Sm0kaCola y idont use that shit either dont trust it and plus i doubt it oc.s worth a shit i got a 930@3.8 on a evga x583xsli 758-tr whit 6gigs if g-sklill @1815mhz 8-8-8-28 awesome you got to 4ghz im scared to put more voltage in it plus it hit almost 80c on a warm day.. coolermasterV8 your tutorial help me alot thank you smokscola!!!

  • @SCARSAC No prob bro, glad to help.

  • IS it bad for your comp to Blu screen? I'm not an experienced overclocker and I can only get my cpu to 3.35 GHz. Anything higher and it blue screens constantly....does that cause permanent damage?

  • @TheSuperiorAce Check your temps, if you have a stock cooler I wouldn't try to push it anymore. But no, if it bluescreens thats good, its saving it from getting damaged. Its not 100% safe, your computer could get fried, but the risk is worth it.

  • @Sm0kaCola how the hell is the risk worth it

  • @jbkrule Its a geek thing, you wouldn't understand :P Basically any time you can push a computer component to have a higher speed, you should. The worst case scenario is you fry something in the PC, and if you actually watch your temps and make sure the PC isn't going through a BSOD every time you boot, that -should- never happen. A faster computer is always nice.

  • @Sm0kaCola Well I just bought a 1300 dollar computer that has the

    i7 930

    9 gb RAM

    ATI Radeon HD 5450

    1 tb drive

and I don't really think I would like to risk it. I think the computer should be fast enough as is.

  • @jbkrule I could go on and tell you how badly you got ripped off. The 9GB of RAM will never actually be fully used, not for awhile anyways, and the graphics card is a low end card. This is why its always better to just build it yourself. And to answer your question, sure its fast enough, but why not make it faster? The risks of damaging hardware are very low and by the time you'd need to replace it, it will be old and dusty, time to upgrade it anyway.

  • @Sm0kaCola I didn't get ripped off. I needed a new computer and this computer fit my needs. It is extremely fast top of the line and I got it for a better price than buying the parts separately, plus it comes with a warranty for two years. It has enough speed to do whatever I want and the RAM will keep it from freezing programs at any times. It has gotten great reviews and I plan to use it for Video stuff not games.

  • @jbkrule lol man, I hate noobs wasting money

  • @jbkrule I bought an i7 build for $1000. i7 930 / 6 gigs 1600Mhz / H50 water cooling / 850 watt modular / 500gb 32mb cache / evga sli le

  • @jbkrule yeah it is rather risky but the main purpose to buy an x58 MB is to OC it. If not why u buy such a badass processor with a nice MB and not OC it? if u dun wanna OC get a i7 870 will be more than enough.

  • @hellowsaw well what benefit is there other than a little more speed? It's not like I am going to play games on it much ( I have an xbox which I prefer) and the most intensive thing I am doing is Flash and photoshop plus video editing (after effects and premiere)

  • good tutorial m8.

what i do is 1st run super pi 32m , and if it passes that then you're on the right path and most likely stable for linpack tests ;)

  • How high would I be able to get my 930 from it's stock speed with a ZALMAN CNPS9900?

  • @youngdones I had the CNPS9700 and I had a Q9550 sitting at 3.6GHz forever until I sold it, so I imagine you can get around there for even 3.8-4.0GHz, just depends on the thermal you use I guess. I had OCZ-Freeze.

  • Hey man. Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the video. It helped me so dam much since I'm new to the overclocking scene. I'm working on getting my computer to be stable at 3.5 and right now I'm at 3.1.

  • nice video

  • hey will u please explain the mem feature, i am guessing it is for the ram. i have the same as you listed except smaller red heatsinks. it was at 999 24 when auto. will i reduce it on your settings? when i used the settings u suggested it now say 6gb 4.99 usable. help plz thanks

  • TURN OFF TURBO BOOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fallout 3 isnt multi threaded (I believe) Not step up..... but turbo boost......great processor getting next week!!!! getting the comming up weekend

  • @Sh0ski Why, i have everything turned on and i believe you cant run "step up" without "turbo"

  • I have a core i7 940 overclocked at 3.8ghz with 1.25 vcore.

And my ram speed at 2000mhz cl9 1t command rate. and a visiontek 4870x2 gpu overclocked at 800/1000 using an OCZ 700w PSU.

And for some reason I'm hearing a hissing noise coming from my PC.

Do you know what could be causing this?

  • @zaxis01 Where exactly is it coming from? If its near your PSU it could be a problem with that.

  • @zaxis01

this is caused by ur video card.......processing information....it happens... my 4890 does it :X

  • Whats your temp at 4ghz?

  • thanks i appreciate it . I have pretty good knowledge of computers but this is the only thing killing me .tryed it all day and i just cant seem to do it .

  • hey bro do you know how to update the bios ? when i try with a image burned cd i get starting caldera and it just stays that way . i have done it to other motherboards but never to a evga board. I would appreciate if you can help me out .i reset the bios to default and ran cd as primary.

  • @cisco760ca I just got a new printer and i'm setting it up, once I finish that I'll search for a guide that I used to update my bios, was pretty easy.

  • What sort of ratio would you have for the Memory Frequency.. I see you've got 2:8 but for the old Core 2 Processors, a ratio of 1:1 was optimal.

  • @EliteSoldier112 I kept it on auto and once I was satisfied I just made it "official" and found the ratio is was setting itself to, so it really just depends. I suggest putting it on auto until you find something you're comfortable with, then changing it to the exact ratio.

  • Thanks this is exactly what i was looking for

  • hey mate coud you post a video for idiots.....on how to reach 3.2g

  • instead of 191, use 155 and follow everything in the tutorial. There is a way to make it a lot more efficient;however, its easier to just copy my settings and use 155 instead. Should give you a 3.2GHz OC.

  • My 930 is running at the same blk x multi combo of 191 x 21, the only issue i have is temps, its dead stable at 4ghz but with HT on, its in the hi 80s and dipping into the 90s on core 1, so i turn HT off which dropped it down to high 70s. (approx 10*C cooler) check out my system its on my profile.

  • Im finishing my new i7 build with the 930, and im hoping to get minimum of 3.5ghz on it. Running a EVGA x58 3x SLI Mobo, 6gb of G.Skill 1600mhz DDR3, Titan Fenrir CPU Cooler, and an antec twelve hundred case.

This goal seem feasible to you?

  • Never heard of the cooler so i'm not sure how temps will be, but it will be very possible with a decent cooler.

  • the fenrin takes a 920 to 4.2 ghz :D

  • i just build i7 930 yesterday i7 loves oc as hell look up my video i got it at 4.0 u can check my settings if u like

  • Thanks for the video, getting my i7 930 build next week (or should). I'll have P6T motherboard with 6gb DDR3 1600mhz memory from Team Group. Would I manage with similiar OC settings? got the Prolimatech Megahalem as CPU cooler and antec 902 case.

Thanks again, and be sure to get spammed by me when I do get the PC for advises etc ^^

  • You might be able to OC it a bit further as thats a high end air cooler and the best so far from what I've heard. I just wanted my cooler because its about the same as a high end cooler and its much easier to work around when needed. And not a problem, I'm here to help any way I can :P

  • What are your max temps when you do a RealTemp sensor test with these settings? I'm running the same mobo/CPU so I'd like to compare.

  • Also, what CPU cooler are you using?

  • @ThugEsquire I can see that you're using a Corsair H50 like I am, but what are your load temps under LinX?

  • Sent you a private message, meant to reply to you sooner.

  • and dont use Linx it heats up ur cpu to temps far beyond anything else

    use prime instead

  • Thats the point really, if it can handle those temperatures then you should have no problem with anything else :P

  • this will be more interesting if ur using a russian accent

  • lol i have no experience on overclocking i am only 15yrs old...but i want to make my own custom computer

  • No need to know how to overclock to make your own computer :p

  • Exactly what comet said, also if you have any questions about what parts you'll need or how to go about building one, I'll be more than willing to help.
