@telephilia My thoughts exactly. I've heard recordings where the strings race out of the gate at the beginning, the winds never stand a chance, and it's a complete mess 30 seconds in.
Bach's Mass in B Minor makes me want to believe there is a God up there.Although a conforming agnostic,Bach makes me doubt this decision. He chose to manifest his religious piety by using his musical genius to show his love for the Almighty.Bach's music marks one of the greatest hallmarks for Christianity.Christians - know that one of the greatest men to have ever lived on this Earth devoted his brilliance to lift devotional worship to its greatest celestial highs.I love the Et in Unum Dominum!
I performed this piece as a chorus as member at the suryoyo center some years ago .and i cant think of any musical solo Aoud or any instrument that sems to have folowed straight out of the composers heart like this absolutely majestic .W A Mozart 01 Opera Star.is my favorite composer.
talking about minute 1:00, is there a breath taking by Gundula? because it sounds like a cut in the word Jes-sus. I just adore Gundula, but we should learn not to do those kind of things, it is technically mistaken.
Regrettably, must agree with you. This performance simply doesn't SOAR, as the more wonderful interpretations of this fantastic musical creation do. There is no sense of "line" or rubato, and definitely very little PASSION in the performance. Pity!!
You are right, Bach is the greatest and most important composer in music history. But Händel, Mozart, Beethoven and so on are also great musicians and brillant in their own way. So You can't call them "numb-skulls". Of course, they are not as important as Bach, because Bach developed so much in music, that the music of the other ones would be impossible without him.
i can understand if you say that for mozart and beethoven...but didn't handel and bach and handel write at the same time...of course they were successful in their own ways but i mean cut handel some slack...imagine if they would have met.
Handel so often comes out on the short end of the stick when compared to Bach - but i agree with you that he should be cut a bit more slack than many allow him. After all, he DID write such intensely popular pieces of art such as his oratorios - the Messiah probably being the most performed piece of "classical" music of all time, and Water Music, and other simply wonderful artistic creations - only when compared to such a towering genius as Bach could he be called anything less than splendid.
I do, but not as a continental, but as a Bach lover. Anyone wherever in this world can hear the geniality and divineness of his work, which is beyond any composer. That is independant to where you come from I think.
I love this song so much but these women killed it. They don't look engaged at all, they sound like someone forced them to sing this song, if zombies sang this is what they'd sound like.

Played at the right tempo. Some clips of this duet posted here are too fast. In my opinion.

Bach, God's spiritual savant on earth who signed at the end of his scores "Deo Gloria' .

Maybe some breath problems here, but you'll never find the the high note from the soprano on 1:00 purer than here. Love this.

Technically sound. They are so boring though!!! noses stuck in score almost all the way through - kind of robotic IMO.

you refer to the English-speaking world, and I agree. Continentals would, I think, chose Bach

1 must consider the time in where he lived. Had he to live in another century he wouldnt be so innovative & important

Does the soprano seem to have a problem with breathing... keeping the line... taking unnecessary breaths? Does anyone else hear that?
urgrad03 4 years ago
I agree - the line sounds quite chopped up in some places. I'm not sure the problem is unnecessary breaths rather than too heavy and audible ones.
