  • WHOOOOAAA!!

  • Well, it certainly IS different from the '55 version but, in my opinion, it sure ain't better.

  • This version kinda contradicts the feeling of the song... :s I think I prefer a more solemn rendition.

  • The song was actually written by Merle Travis.

  • i guess im just tooooooooooooo old-fashioned i still like the original the best.

  • I saw someone with it for sell on eBay for the tidy sum of $45 lol!!! Umm, no thanks!!!

  • @ronreagan12 Id buy it! thats not a bad price at all...if you like records

  • @ronreagan12

    CHEAP

  • Too nice!!! Thanks a lot for this!

  • would love to get the mp3 version of that song, any help with that ???

  • I know whats to be the "good version"

But this is really hot too !

  • So, if James Bond mined coal?

  • i really want a mp3 of this version! but cannot find one. help!

  • @gimetzco I could possibly help with that....send me a message with an email address.

  • @TopshelfTom do you have any 45s of this anywhere? Willing to buy!!!

    thank you!

    :)

  • Море,тако се то ради !

  • I apologize, 'Topshelf'. I was certain this was the one featured on the "Masters" box set. There's a video of Ernie "lipsynching" it on a May 1965 "HOLLYWOOD PALACE" posted, but other than that.....until Capitol-EMI releases the stereo master of this, GUARD THAT "45" WITH YOUR LIFE!!!!

    ;)

  • This was recorded in January 1965 (with "Hicktown"), and released that May. However, contrary to what I've said before, 'Topshelf', it was NOT released on LP during Ernie's original tenure with Capitol. It WAS, however, reissued on the 1994 CD box set, "Masters 1949-1976" [Capitol Nashville].

  • @fromthesidelines Your comment is wrong. The Masters box set contains the original 1955 version plus a later live version, not this version found in my video.

  • ...but you could only hear the stereo version on the LP it was initially released on. I can understand why Ernie's son doesn't reallly care for this one- but Ford was willing to adapt to current musical tastes, to broaden his audience...

  • @fromthesidelines What LP was it on??

  • It isn't uncommon for country performers to release "updated" versions of their "classic" hits; Tex Ritter recorded a new version of "I Dreamed Of A Hillbilly Heaven" for Capitol in 1964 (three years after the original), including references to the recently departed Hawkshaw Hawkins, Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves. And, notably, this "hipper" version was recorded in stereo [the '55 original was in mono].

  • Trying to learn how to play this specific version of the song. Any ideas how?

  • The B side is Hicktown. Search ebay with descriptions included and a couple copies should show up.

  • What is the B side to this record? I tried to find a copy of this record on eBay and a few other sites and came up with nothing.
