As far as the generators, did they satisfy you when it came to powering your entire airstream? Also do you have any info if airstream trailers have solor panels avaliable?
You have to make your choices when running the generator. If you want to turn on the hot water heater, for example, you MAY need to turn off the A/C. And if your wife wants to run a hair dryer, well, you need to make changes accordingly. In other words, the generator will power EVERYTHING, just not everything at ONE TIME. When using big power-sucking devices like hair dryers, coffee makers, etc. you need to adjust. Other items like the TV, DVD player, etc. are no problem whatsoever.
I appreciate the info, me and my wife are considering an airstream and i was concerned about camping where there are no hook ups. We're big movie watchers and i just wanted to make sure we would be ok doing so at the campsite. one more question, would a 1500 or 150(ford) series do the job of pulling that 25 foot airstream????
A Ford F150 will do the job, but most people recommend a 3/4 ton truck (F250 or similar). More tow vehicle = more safety. We have a diesel truck that we love...wish I could say the same about diesel fuel costs! Our F250 has been great, but its running costs have risen dramatically in the past year.
@walkaboutgroup Hi just want to say i love you vids very much keep up the good work. I just wanted to coment on the diesel truck. i also have an airstream 29ft . I use to have a 2005 f350 superduty diesel but like you say the cost to run now are just crazy.I now have a f350 gas 5.4l and i love it. Oil changes run me about 35 dollares labor an all. And i loved the sound of my diesel but let me just say on a 12 hour ride you fall more in love with how quit the gas is.
@superduty110 Thanks, yes when I bought my diesel (the good ole days) diesel fuel cost LESS than gas... Since the ultra low sulfur stuff was introduced, prices have gone up. I like the noise from our truck, but I wouldn't mind having a "quiet" option either. We often shut off the engine because it makes such a racket.
Our Classic is a 2003. As for generators, I recommend either the Honda 3000 or the Yamaha EF3000iSEB. Check out my Airstream blog at thelonglonghoneymoon dot-com -- lots more info there.
what year is your airstream? i am debating getting an older one but would rather pay for a used 2000ish one that provides better amenities. What kind of generator would you also recommend?
