I really dig the playing here and other vids I saw of Mr Duffy. I just happened to find em. I have heard of Whitesnake but didn't know Mr. Duffy. I also saw some vids, recently, featuring compact TC Electronic heads. I like the set up used in this vid. Good for a small to med venue, prob?
Hey Uriah I'm looking for a pedal for that jamiroquai stuff and am torn between the MXR auto Q, Deluxe Octave and this envelope filter pedal so keeping in mind i can only get one, which do you recommend? and you mentioned on a reply to another comment about a hip hop sound, how can i get that low bassy sound like in Rnb songs? Love the playing by the way!
@alexmorris09 I'd say get this one. Although I'm an MXR fan, the Auto Q is... well... do you know the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all"? It applies. THIS one however is the shit. This WITH the Octave is REALLY the shizz! As for low bassy sound- lot's of RnB employs 5 string usage. Skill need as well. :-)
@udawggy thanks for the reply i think i might get the Octave first. and it's a good thing i have a five string then! :)
By the way Whitesnake's guitarist visited my music school ACM a while (I say my music school but i'm joining in september) so you should come along when you're in the UK and give a masterclass! and show off all the amazing pedals!
@udawggy : Hip skills! From your resume it seems that you're quite a well-rounded player too! It's nice to see an FX demo where the pedal is set to something that would be practically applicable. Do you do clinics & lessons? There seems to be a lack of good R&B/Funk/Groove bass tutors out there. ;)
Thanx for the product demo,The retailers aren't much help showing stuff in my area.Wish Namm and the MFR's would travel around and allow customers to buy products at the show. They only want to do that with Gun shows.
@crguti For beginners that haven't yet developed enough left hand strength this may be true- but not for everyone. I play really hard (I think TOO hard) and like the top end fret rattle in my sound, at least for solo stuff. But it's def not desirable when I'm playing something like Hip-Hop where I need to drop big clean bombs with consistently fat low end.
@udawggy I think he meant that if you can hear the microphone/camera picked up the fret noise from the bass, then the volume for the amp probably wasn't loud enough.
1st of all, loved the reviews. i actually learned from it. there are just too few here on youtube doing this kind of review.
does this have the same Q technology with the Cry Baby 105Q Bass Wah? i just ordered one of these and i was wondering if it would be an overkill if i am to chain it on my board with the Wah. although i know and am sure that i can use this other than my Wah but cannot really use it all at the same time.

Would it be possible to run this pedal with a guitar instead of a bass? In my opinion this pedal sounds better than most of the guitar filter effects..
Are you seriously going to brag about having been in Whitesnake? That's kind of like a major league base ball player bragging about being on the Kansas City Royals. You are a pretty sick bass player though.
Extreme thanks for the very professionally recording (I *LOVE* the split "Left Room Mic"/"Right Direct Out") and explanation of the pedal's various functions. Between yours and fellow Dunlop/MXR endorsee Bryan Beller's (Dethklok, Steve Vai, Mike Keneally) demo I decided that *this* was the Envelope Filter for my pedalboard/"B-Rig" - my main pre is an SWR Mini Mo' with the built-in effects and whose "Bassynth" effect is the high-water mark to my ears., but which this has the same overall vibe!
Awesome demo. I wish all demos showed the actual process of finding certain tones, as yours does, rather than just providing snippets of different tones edited together.
Seriously good bassist. Your ability to stay in the pocket and utilize the whole neck is astounding. Dont get near enough attention. Reminds me alot of a certain Mr Larry Graham.
@craigdamage Yeah- I like fret noise/buzz. If you can, try listening to only the RIGHT channel- It's the direct sound output. There's still some snap, but way less than the LEFT channel room mic. Perhaps I'll do another sample with a p-Bass/flatwounds...
@udawggy thank you--THANK YOU! A thousand blessings to you my friend. I certainly wasn't insulting your playing/technique. I wish more folks would do bass demos on youtube with flatwounds. I switched to flats on all my basses a number of years ago for the reason of wanting lower noise. I admit,I do kinda miss the sound of a chorus pedal on my Fender Jazz back when I still used rounds...
@00Funk777 FX25 is good, but he's got only one sound! I think for example EHX, MXR and other filters are better, you can do a lot more things that only the funky sound of the FX25... Anyway I like this pedal
Nice to hear a true groove player demoing an envelope filter. His technique is as good as anybody's, but he slows it down and puts space between the notes so we can really hear what the effect can do; he's not just showing off. Best envelope filter demo I've seen and heard yet!
Wow, dude. Great sound. Great skills too. What does a guy with these skills do to practice? I mean, what else is there to work on?!?
