@kaindrg Yeah I know, Shaolin pre 1800 was just a pot for mixing up different Chinese Martial arts accumulated through out the years. Northern Shaolin is a more modern art, as the style itself is similar to Choy Li Fut, where a man learned different martial arts from monks at the temple, but created the style and attributed it to the Shaolin temple. I live in China and I can tell you Martial arts are a live and good, though of not much use. Wushu for sport is mainly practiced. Lots of people know how to do useless showy movements here, that are not worth much in combat. As for how a style starts, not big mystery. Some guy thought he had developed a better way to fight.

wushu= acrobatics, it is not martial, same goes for 99% of karate. it is a sport.

Did you know chinese martial arts were banned from china since the communist revolution. It is why my Sigong Augustine Fong came to america. Ho kam ming later came too(in toronto Yé) when Hong Kong was given back to china in 98 i think....i dont' remember the exact date. These real martial systems are exclusive to the police and the military in china, plus the cultural background of the shaolin is to revolt against oppressors, the government does not want this spirit spreaded about the people.

I live in China, martial arts are not banned here at all. In fact there are tons of schools teaching everything from Karate to Wushu. Sorry.

many wing chun practitioners tend to believe that ''aliens'' aka ''the gods'' were behind it. Its most probable that it is the triads in fact. All martial arts in china disappeared in the early 18th century, two guys came together in that century later on to re-create the ''shaolin systems''. The ''Long fist'' would be the basic shaolin form or ''flavor''. Chen Taiji is THE OLDEST martial art practiced in a continuous lineage since the 16th century.

lol, ya extra-terrestrials! I have a couple history books on martial arts and 2 of them do refer to this myth indeed! I tried finding a web site that worked on these these, but was fruitless. I do personally believe that the annunaki, elohims, sons of god, asunas and devas, olympians, aesirs and vanirs, the gods of heliopolis and all their numerous counterparts were real flesh and bones, possessed advances modern day like technologies.

The masses in antiquity were kept in such conditions slavery, that they did not have any understanding whatsoever of an internal combustion engine for example, and there are many signs of advanced developments in the far past. They knew squat shit about diseases and so on, all they knew is worship to the gods...worship aka work for...The ''gods'' were fixated on gold! the time period the gods were actively and openly harvesting gold is the ancient ''Golden Age''. They were the temple builders. Check out the temple they build in Lebanon, i think its the Temple of Bacchus. There is a corner stone that weights about 800 tons. It is estimated that it was quarried at about 2 miles from the temple itself. It would be impossible to move it or even simply set it in place with our level of technical achievements today...

if you've got some time, do check out the sumerian aacounts It is FAROUT. There is some links that ties EA the ENKI with Indra, Shiva, Poseidon, Ptah and some associate him to Odin aswell. I wouldn't put my hand in fire for any of it, but I've always been most fascinated with the world's various mythologies.

*puts hand on your shoulder*....listen...it's a MYTH.. =_=.. ALso...wing CHUN is a RECENT martial art. Most religions have similarities...it's no surprise..it doesn't mean they are related to each other. The reason why Chinese Martial arts disappeared for a long time is simply due to an accident (or incident) where the temple was burned down.

well, from what i've read it was the invading manchous who destroyed the original shaolin temple. Ng Mui was one of the 5 elders who fled the invaders according to 'legends''. In truth it is what we know call the Triads, formerly know as the ''red boat opera'', who passed down this art.
