I don't approve of factory farming, and I avoid supermarket meat because of the cruelty involved. That said, I think this is not the same. Yes, the animal is having a pretty bad day. However the people doing the work seem not cold and out of touch with what they're doing. There seems to be some element of respect for the seriousness of the situation.

While I disagree with callousness and disregard for the suffering of animals, this video does not bother me.

It appears to be reasonable.

Seems like elastration takes longer then simply using a blade; but I can see that done properly, it eliminates the need for anti-biotics and possible infection.  Thanks for the view!

Again, who are "you guys"? You're not providing a thought-provoking, perspective. Instead, it appears you are lashing out with misplaced anger from a position of ignorance.

Do you own a dog? Is it neutered? If so, do you know what that means? (Hint: They cut off it's nuts with a knife and send it home with a lampshade on it's head.) Do you know why cattle are castrated? Do you have comparative data concerning the health of castrated vs non-castrated bulls? Have you worked on a farm?

Who do you mean by "you guys"? You mean me? I'm not a rancher and rarely eat beef. I filmed this because it's reality. This is the reality of farming animals. Most people have become so removed from food production they have no clue where their food comes from, how it's grown, what's involved in it's processing, storage, distribution, etc.. ect.. They just show up at the supermarket and feel good about buying things with "organic" or "free range" on the label. It's fantasy land.

To all who wonder: I'm really not much of a beef eater & am very aware of the wide variety of negative consequences associated with the beef industry. This is my brother in law who owns just enough cattle to help pay a few of their bills & all are range fed. As bad as this looks, it is FAR more personalized than what happens on corporate farms.

What?!? My video was FLAGGED!? I didn't notice until you pointed it out. How completely bizarre. These are farmers. This is part of how food is grown. Should we keep them from slaughter houses too? What about kids who hunt with their fathers & have to dress-out a deer or tear the feathers off a quail? There were "minors" at this roundup HELPING with various tasks related to branding & castrating calves. It's a part of their livelihood.

Is there a way I can protest this and get it reversed?

It may be sick & it certainly doesn't increase my own appetite for beef, but but this isn't a sick joke. This is the icky side of food production people don't like to watch.

They do just fall off. When I was first told this I had trouble believing it as well. However, the band is so tight it cuts off all circulation so they simply rot and fall off like a scab on a wound. The spot where the band was simply heals over. It's gross as hell but it is bloodless and decreases the chance of infection from flies.

If you eat animals for food, this is reality. It is sad (and dangerous) that we've become so incredibly out of touch with how our food is produced.

Yes, damn things hump your leg just like the dog. But at 2,000 lbs, it hurts like hell.

Otherwise, no. They actually become more docile and easy to manage.

They actually do just drop off. The elastic is so tight it cuts off all circulation and forms scar tissue as if the banded area is a wound. In the winter time when it is really cold outside they do sometimes just cut them off and be done with it but when it is warm and the flies are out, they prefer this method.
