I've seen the film five times. A great mix of that clever/neurotic/goofy type humor. If you love stand-up, it's captivating. I choked on my popcorn during the opening credits!

It loses some cohesiveness after George recovers. Still, I hope it represents a new, more mature phase for Apatow (41) in which his comic genius, emotional depth and filmmaking chops combine to make him one of our great directors.

I thought this movie really showed the depth and emotions of the characters and really showed the struggle on trying to become a successful comedian. I enjoyed it, however i wasn't expecting laugh out loud type comedy like knocked up or the 40 year old virgin. I give it a 8/10

Real question is: if this isn't really a funny movie what would be or is going to be the funniest movie in theaters this year? It would really have to push the envelope for me to consider paying $8.50 or $9 a ticket. They would have to put a warning on the trailer saying "Be careful not to choke on your popcorn. Nothing will prepare you for the laughs you will experience watching this film." and really mean that as they sell it.

my friend saw the movie on friday and liked it, but was disappointed because it was more of an emotional movie with bits of comedy, which is kind of betraying to the idea of seth rogan, adam sandler and judd apatow. kind of like dan in real life-steve carell, dane cook-not a single laugh-just a horrible chick flick. not that this was a horrible movie-but i guess don't mis-categorize it.

Apatow is one of my favorite writer/directors, and this was just a great film that works on so many levels. Funny, dramatic, insightful, and also a testament, retrospect, and skewering of Sandler's career. The lady who gave it a 5 is crazy, it's an easy 9/10.
