  • THE 1980S WERE REALLY PRIMITIVE TIMES IN ART AND CULTURE, ROCK N ROLL BANDS LIKE DEVO STARTED TO PLAY ON PEOPLES INTELLIGENCE AND THEY CRITICIZED WHAT WAS GOING ON AT THE TIME : MAINSTREAM STUPIDITY AND HYPOCRACY , THE BASIS OF WHAT PUNK ROCK MUSIC WAS

  • Visionaries! Should I be scared that my non-verbal autistic daughter LOVES "Yo-Gabba-Gabba"? Plus my law student daughter was pretty much raised on "RugRats"!

  • No description available, no description possible !

  • Fuck... This takes me back.

  • @17primemover This takes me back 3 months ago when I started listening to Devo.

  • eff it

  • Choosing from 2 options is not freedom. That's the point. Like asking your kid does he want to wear the yellow raincoat or the red raincoat...he ain't in control, but feels like it because he gets to make the decision.

  • does anyone know the other instrumental at the start of an early devo album???

it was a fast paced almost dance track

    not sure which album tho

    thanks

  • @markbatch Its probably the Devo corparate anthem your thinking about

  • Ancaps should be forced to watch this!

  • aside from all the contradictions and irony that devo puts into there concepts, I'm curious as to whether they are rallying for using freedom of choice as a way to progress & not keep spinning in circles, or are they saying the idea of freedom is another pathetic social construct that will distract humanity from spiraling towards shit? (i would guess the latter) all things aside however, devo is devo, it never fails to keep me fascinated by their ambition & creative energy however dark it may be

  • @Paradox4567

"Freedom of choice is what you've got. Freedom FROM choice is what you want." It's basically the existentialist philosophy. Most people don't want the "freedom of choice" or making their own minds up. They'd much rather live like everybody else, follow trends and herd mentality. People try to dodge responsibility of their own lives and true selves by making others (the herd) make the "choice" for them.

Sartre called this "living in despair".

  • @McLarenMercedes word thanks.

  • I was there taking still photos for 2 days of the skateboarding parts. I worked for Skateboarder Magazine and was one of the photographers chosen to shot the stills for the magazine. A lot of work went into the filming the skate shots and Devo was really great to us all. I had a great time doing this and Devo was one of the first groups doing music videos back then. If you weren't around back then you don't realize what went into making these videos so you shouldn't be so critical of the video!

  • 2:00 Ventrilo harrassament!!!!!

  • Why land of the free and Freedom of Choice as in the US you cannot vote Comunism which takes away your freedom of choice and isn't very democratic now is it. And no i'm not a red

  • @alecahauf

what? cause you can vote communist if some crank runs on the ticket.

  • ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED BANDS OF ALL TIME MAYBE

  • truly profound...from the Men Who Make the Music!

  • Why is it that when I lived in the 80's I didn't know how good we had it?

  • @level242 I had a blast in the 80's but you are right... They were classic times IMO... I would go back in a heartbeat....

  • @level242

Nostalgia a load of crap. There is plenty of things in the 80's that are crap.

  • I am named LEVEL242,I named myself after the 80's UK pop band Level 42.Your name is brownie1982ad you named yourself after the year 1982....you wanna run that by me again that the 80's were full of crap.

  • @level242

    @brownie1982ad

Britain had its worse Prime Minster in the 80s, and the USA had the worst President in its history in the 80's. While there was some cool things from the 80's, nostalgia makes people over look how much lame stuff there was. Like a lot of the pop music was complete shit.

  • @brownie1982ad

I thought pop music was crap in the 80's. That was until the 90's, 2000's, and our current decade came along. What's been popular since then, makes the 80's look genius in comparison.

  • @Raiders757 The 80s were genius, actually!

  • @alexuniverse Most 80's music sucked. I thought Devo were an exception though.

  • @alexuniverse Devo weren't really all that popular in the 80's either. They certainly weren't like a Micheal Jackson, Madona, Duran Duran, U2, Bon Jovi type phenomenon. They really just had one hit and that was it ( from a mainstream standpoint anyway ).

  • @brownie1982ad I don't really give a shit about nostalgia, 80's or otherwise, I just love this groupe, thats all.

  • At LAST! Some one has had the good sense and taste to upload this absolute classic. Well done sir!

  • Great song, great group

  • It's amazing how much room people have in their heads dedicated to wishing other people would make their choices for them.

  • @Hakudohshi not choosing is a choice

  • still ahead of there time

  • Thing is that this song is as relevent in 2010 as it was in 1980. That's scary.

  • I never tire of this.....

  • @LuminousGuy me neither, love it, love it , love it

  • Holy S**T this is AWESOME

Makes me want to skateboard, and then eat a chocolate donut while singing...

dammit I want to do it right now!!!!

  • @AJtheory would you describe this feeling as an uncontrollable urge?

  • @AJtheory Then use your freedom of choice...

  • They're right, "freedom from choice" is want many that are "asleep" want. Take to frakkin' Red Pill already people and wake up.

  • where is Stacey?

  • @Sweet3stLeaf pause at 0:07, the one on the left
