Choosing from 2 options is not freedom. That's the point. Like asking your kid does he want to wear the yellow raincoat or the red raincoat...he ain't in control, but feels like it because he gets to make the decision.
aside from all the contradictions and irony that devo puts into there concepts, I'm curious as to whether they are rallying for using freedom of choice as a way to progress & not keep spinning in circles, or are they saying the idea of freedom is another pathetic social construct that will distract humanity from spiraling towards shit? (i would guess the latter) all things aside however, devo is devo, it never fails to keep me fascinated by their ambition & creative energy however dark it may be
"Freedom of choice is what you've got. Freedom FROM choice is what you want." It's basically the existentialist philosophy. Most people don't want the "freedom of choice" or making their own minds up. They'd much rather live like everybody else, follow trends and herd mentality. People try to dodge responsibility of their own lives and true selves by making others (the herd) make the "choice" for them.

I was there taking still photos for 2 days of the skateboarding parts. I worked for Skateboarder Magazine and was one of the photographers chosen to shot the stills for the magazine. A lot of work went into the filming the skate shots and Devo was really great to us all. I had a great time doing this and Devo was one of the first groups doing music videos back then. If you weren't around back then you don't realize what went into making these videos so you shouldn't be so critical of the video!
This was my favorite LP in 9th grade.... I was stoked to see Alva & Peralta on here . Ripping pools had just been around a year or 2, no half pipes or Xgames even in the imagination yet! Logan EarthSki, trackers and OJ wheels, stoned and skating ........... Good Times
Why land of the free and Freedom of Choice as in the US you cannot vote Comunism which takes away your freedom of choice and isn't very democratic now is it. And no i'm not a red
if you know, it was all about the Canyon Jump... that, seriously, was the most fucked up thing anyone had ever seen. There was/is not much better in life than this video.

@jetrage69 The 80's were hardly 'primitive'....if such were the case, why are so many movies, songs and fashions being re-made from this decade?
