  • you kick fucking ass dude its that simple yet it took me for ever to find anything explaining how to do it

  • so it formats the whole drive ?

  • i cant see the partition editor in in my administration..i try to search it on software center and click use this source and i dont know if i have installed it..sorry im new to ubuntu..thanx

  • @kuyajhet search gparted in the software center, it should be in your menus after u installed it

  • how can you show the system tab in the upper left corner?beacause i dont have any..im using ubuntu 11.4

  • @kuyajhet humm 11.04, u can use the classic mode, just logout at the bottom of the login screen change it to classic then login

  • i need to go back to windows too or at least i wanna have both but only have ubuntu at the moment when installing windows i try to click format in the custom install bit but get error. what if i delete the drive? will that work then install. I just need a clean version of windows installing??

  • Just wondering, why would want to format a 1GB flash drive to NTFS if really the only limitation of FAT32 (which is more widely supported) is you can't have files larger than 4GB?

  • how do u use live cd instead of drive so i can format to ntfs

  • OMFG PLEASE HELP. I want to re-install windows but I need the hard drive i'm using in ubuntu to be NTFS. But the problem is I need to unmount it to change but since ubuntu is using it I cant!!!

  • @Cyahnidde use a live cd or usb, then u can unmount

  • @gotbletu same problem here. Well , not really. I really need my 500gb HDD for Windows and I can now use my 320gb HDD for Linux.

So do I just run the installation up to the point where can I format the drive? I tried it about 6 hours ago, but it would not let me, something about an entry point or w/e.

  • @DoomTra1n Not sure what u mean, but im guessing you want to reinstall windows? and dualboot? then install windows 1st, then install linux. There will be an option during your linux install to resize your partition and format it

  • @gotbletu can you send me Gparted with link plz i need that help thanks

  • @sicario901 With the MiniTool partition manager wizard, it is easy for you to delete partition, copy partition and other operations. I can't post link, you can search online--MiniTool partition manager wizard, you will get the download page, some editions are FREEEEE. :)

  • You must say, that NTFS is only the best solution for large files if you want to use the file system with M$ Windows. Otherwise, ext3 is a very good choice and you can even format a USB drive using ext3. Ok, last one isn't really a good idea, 'cause USB drives often meet Windows... ;)

Anyway, FAT32 is the default file system for USB drives, but only for compatibility reasons. There are two heavy arguments against it: 1. maximum file size, 2. no journaling - special important on mobile drives...

  • I recomend this tutorial,

I use it and thanks to this instructions I could solve my problem of giving NTFS format to a partition in ubuntu. Thanks for your time and help budy!

  • ok i want to reinstall Windows Vista, and i have Ubuntu installed on the partition i want to install it on. And i need to format it to NTFS. Now what would happen if i unmount that drive?

  • Thanks! I found this video to be fine.

  • No, just that I found the video full of unnecessary colloquialisms inappropriate for the topic at hand.

I found the video to be useful for my own ends, but frustratingly difficult to listen to and tragic.

  • you should leave gotbletu channel if you have virgin ears

  • how do i format internal partitions

  • thanks a lot...

  • thx

  • sadly, i just got a 1tb(yet it says 931.5) and when i was trying to format it so i could use it...g parted wouldnt let me go straight to ntfs. so i am trying fat32 to ntfs. yet apparently that isnt working either, still no options for ntfs.

  • from packet manager of your distribution (synaptics etc.), install 'ntfsprogs' & 'libntfs10' packages. This should solve the problem.

  • ntfs not available how i can change to NTFS..

    Please help !!

  • Did you install ntfsprogs before installing GParted?

  • This fellow seems like the smart IT guy for the local bario gang. I wonder if he set up the gang web site?

  • alright well I'm gonna have a friend do it. I figured out why it wasn't downloading anything. So why it wont install the new ubuntu or windows vista black eternity I don't know except that it could be my cpu doesn't fit the requirments. Thanks for the info.

  • I can't install anything because I need to partician my harddrive. I have pc linux os. Do you what I need to do? I can't even install a different ubuntu or even any windows programs on my pc? Help me pleaseeeee!!!!!

  • this question doesn't barely make sense...right?

  • I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT THIS STUFF and i'd be VERY grateful if someone could answer:

Why does formatting through linux with gparted go so goddamn fast? I formatted my 1TB harddrive and it took 12 seconds. O.O

I mean, Is this really a full format which takes away all your files 100% garaunteed? If so, why is it SO FAST?

  • yea basically a quick format. No format is 100% delete. But if u want that security might want to look into DBan

  • I know that all the 1s and 0s dont get deleted after a format. but is there any risk that any of the old files will be there in the way that the comp can recognize them being there and use them?

im trying to get rid of a spyware for windows (im doing all of this through linux since the spyware wont affect windows obviously)

thanks for all your help!! ill look into dban. :)

  • The files are still there, the pc will usually wait until u need to write over it. A quick ntfs format or full should get rid of the virus in windows. Just do full reinstall not recover or restore

  • great useful video, funny commentary.....dont F**K it up! :p

  • Do you agree?

Yes we do bitch! hahaha.... lmao

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Helped alot.

  • awesome dude, thanks this help me out alot, btw how do u get that cool effect with the mouse,

    mike.

  • K I'm a newbie ubuntu and messed up in sudo now don't find wireless card 4312. I tried to pop in disk and restart but can't should I format then reinstall ubuntu.

  • So I have two harddrives, One is Windows fat32, and the other was a redhat distribution of linux.

I was wanting to put Ubuntu on the second harddrive and leave windows on the first one. Would I just unmount my second drive, format it to ext3, or NTFS, and then...how would I go about installing ubuntu to only the second drive, and when I restart after it's installed, would I be prompted by GRUB or windows on which drive to boot from? or would I be prompted at all?

  • nah just pop in ur ubuntu live disc and u can choose which drive u want to place it in when ur installing. The ubuntu grub will let u choose between XP and linux or which ever OS u got.

  • Ahh, thanks man. I partitioned the drive anyways, all though it's a little weird now haha, I allocated some space at the front of the drive but it's no big deal because it wasn't very much.

I'll hook the drives up how I had them and re-install.

  • Do anyone know how do i give more memory to my ubuntu.

i wanna take memory from xp partion and give to ubuntu partion.

    They are sharing a HDD.

  • resize ur partition

  • im extracting a PS2 iso over 4gig, after its 100% complete, it says an error.

itsover 4gig, shall i look 4 "NTFS" to install on PC staight away?

  • if u use windows then use NTFS. If ur on linux then use ext3 or above. It will take the 4gb limit off.

  • tx for the vid

  • I don't get which one I should unmount. If my usb is lexar, do I unmount that?

  • find the one u want to format and right click on it and unmount partition

  • Good vid, but 1 thing.

It's absolutly false that you can't make a partition bigger than 4G with FAT32.

  • guess u dont understand. u cant go over 4GB per file. Not that u cant have big FAT32 partition. So if u Burn a DVD iso is about 4-8GB it wont work on FAT32 there is a limit per file.

  • great video, thanks.

  • Cheers for this, I had gparted installed but it wouldn´t let me choose ntfs. Done a quick Google search and found this simple video, turns out I didn't have that ntfsprogs.

    Thanks :)

  • 5/5 for sure

  • Dude Thank you very much, this tutorial help me a lot thanks. 5 stars

  • "Yes we do, Bitch!"

That's how we handle that shit!

  • damn str8 loL
