  • OK Alan, you are partially right about the Germans abandoning the Monte Cassino fortifications.

There are however several things to clarify. First of all, the Poles (as part of the the 5th Allied Army) did the most fighting in the four battles (yes, four) for Monte Cassino.

They suffered horrible casualties. According to wikipedia " with the Fifth Army alone having suffered 90,000 casualties."

In the end of the 4th battle the Germans abandoned the fort. They simply had enough .

  • Hello

There is plenty of info about the battle of Monte Cassino, including wikipedia, britannica, and so forth.

But everybody is entitled to his own opinion. This is however only opinion and nothing more.

  • Moje byle miasto

  • moje też - i mieszkalem w tej ulicy!

  • Would you be kind enough to reveal your sources regarding the Germans abandoning Monte Cassino before it was taken by Polish soldiers?

  • It needs to be pointed out that the attackers did not know that the monastery had been abandoned.

The easiest source would be here on you tube the Forgotten evidence series or unknown WW2. I think all the Battlefield films were removed by you tube but I may be wrong.

Failing that you can also see from the German paratroop side the date of the withdrawal.

  • hah ja na monciaku ulotki rozdaje =,=
