No one is probably more surprised than him that ppl believe all his hype and bollocks, he is like John Peel he made a living out of being a wanker, then all of a sudden ppl started taking him seriously. Manchester has some of the biggest most influential bands ever, none of which were signed to Factory, no Oasis, Stone Roses or Smiths. Joy Division and the Monday's are gr8 bands but not what Tony Wilson made out, can't knock his enthusiasm though god rest his soul.
Let me guess, when you can't think of anything to say call them a civil servant. How has that been working out for you? You could try 'I know you are but what am I' for a bit of variety
Well, despite all the the technological breakthroughs and discoveries that have taken place over both our lifetimes, it still took you 3 months to reply to me, so you clearly you are a civil servant.
well....the mondays probably werent that good musically, but it was all about attitude...theyre legends cos for the first time in history there was someone saying "we've been all this time so worried about how the worlds going on and now i just dont want to pay attention and i just wanna party"...there wouldnt be any party-animal attitude nowadays if it isnt cos of the mondays.they were the first and they influenced all the rave culture we all know now.if thats nothing...
I'd agree with that, I remeber seeing the monday's hallelujah video on TV on a Saturday morning after I had been out the night b4, and you could see he was monged, we had been going raving for a couple of months by then and he was about the first person I had seen on TV that had anything to do with it.
Thanks for uploading this. I missed the third day of Coachella. Hopefully Tony and Ian are enjoying a pint at the Rock and Nail pub behind the pearly gates.
Polls such as these are almost as tedious as you are, compiled of small middle class samples that dont give anywhere near an accurate representation of the UK and serve only as a means of perpetuating the south-eastern skew that is prevalent throughout most of the UKs media and publishing. I could go on and on at you but i shall not, you are a complete and utter waste of time "professor"
No, i think you'll find you are a symbol of the out dated and antiquated views that still have aplace in this country. With all this third city nonsense you keep on spouting i couldnt care less what number city manchester was given so long as manchester remained manchester. I think you'll find Plymouth has the highest amount of rainfall in the UK and as for gun crime, i think you'll find london tops the list there. Worst place to live in the UK?
Manchester is the ninth wettest city in the uk after the likes of Swansea,Glasgow and Plymouth. There is no way there is more violence than London. Its the best place in the uk, and there is nowhere in the world that has done so much and made so much history than the north west of england. FACT.
Rob Right, please do yourself and everyone else a favour by keeping your blinkered and ignorant opinions to yourself, you clearly have no real clue what you're talking about. Im actually quite angry now when all i wanted to do was watch this Tony Wilson vid.
I was standing in about the same spot from where this footage was shot. As soon as I saw Tony walk onto stage, I fell into a short moment of shock. I recovered enough to snap off 3 or 4 quick photos of this legendary man. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Tony.
I wish I could've been at that concert. It breaks my heart that he was so ill and that he passed away. I owe that man so much gratitude for the passion he had for music and journalism. he was a bit of an inspiration to me.
Thank goodness I was late getting to the Sahara tent. The Happy Mondays is Wilson's final opportunity to raise his big flag of self promotion ... Same old Tony. Steve Coogan would have played Tony Wilson much better .. One thing is for sure, the Happy Mondays were the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD in 1991. RAVE ON!
thanks, the pleasure is all mine. i'd say us Americans responded quite well to bands from the UK [but i don't speak for all, being that most Americans are fat, lazy, and stupid and i am a naturalized citizen, so yeah]. i saw a lot of acts from the UK, like The Jesus & Mary Chain, Jarvis Cocker, Hot Chip, The Good The Bad & The Queen, Klaxons, and of course, the Mondays. and you know, you'd be surprised at the amount of your fellow countrymen at Coachella; very impressive, i say.
Just gonna check out the Mondays now. Some decent bands coming out of UK in past couple of years, check out bands like The Cribs, The Editors, The Enemy, Kasabian, Bloc Party etc Im not sure if many of them have made any breakthrough in USA. Coachella sounds like a great festival, although having been in Palm Springs last summer, the weather exhausted you, Im going to big festival called T in the Park in July in Scotland, the weather could be warm, rainy or windy who knows!
wow thats amazing.
