  • good engineer

  • i swear 2 god put that on wheels!! then upload it!!

  • its the great man himself, George Francis!

  • stupid guy!..now we know why is "EX" RAF....

  • bye bye blades u idiot to much fuel at low rpms ohh well at least it didn't explode but hell have a lot of money to fix

  • That is a &^%$£D jet engine now

  • He does not know what he is doing! The jet is melting itself down.

  • hahahaha dork

  • hehe there goes a few grand lol ... dont start your jets hot ... most ppl know this ... but not him he is only raf we are RAAF we got 1 mroe A were better lol

  • I can see why he is EX-RAF, he has almost ruined that engine! He clearly has NO IDEA what he's doing, he allowed the engine to overheat during start up, it is likely it is permanently damaged!

  • He he!the ass burnt out of it!ROFL!

  • i think that was a hot start

  • you are right.

  • Thats a fancy hair dryer!

  • I didn,t know the lead singer from ZZ TOP was into jet engines...you learn something new every day! (1.02 onwards)

  • Mwhahahahaha

  • If that guy was really an engineer he would have been able to see (even without an EGT gauge)that it was a hot start

  • Lol I love frustrated remark at the end "fantastic", I know I'd be!

  • no! no! no! your all wrong the fling flang has to be engaged before the ohjamiflip heats up the dooda and overides the cranklemop at 3fings per syslabs, easy!

  • lol, agreed.

  • that, people, is some quality gibberish.

  • no no no you also wrong, it was because he didnt connect the jimberwiffle to the nuttygoochenwaffle. simple

  • lol very good!

  • @alachamberlain

and there is not a falangi attached!

  • Can you say "Hot Start"?

  • Eh, who needs a power turbine anyway.

  • E.g. one could build three, silent 1kN-model MGT's (micro gas turbines) on a round or triangular platform and fly with it. (Yes it

does!) Coincidently you'd see your vehicule

days later on YT. In the category 'UFO and

    paranormal'.

  • stick it on the car lol

  • The speed required to spin the turbine up even after ignition has to be 24v to 28v to get the engine spool and stabilize and overcome the drag of the acessories, that engine is producing almost 0 hp at idle so it must spin up at least 10% before lighting all the way to at least 35% to get a goog saft start.

  • yep i'm sure you are right, I'm not a specialist in this field so I would not know. Thanks for your good comments.

  • so you also know to wear safety glasses when looking closer when there is fragmentation flying out?

  • Health and safety? not at these private events.

  • nice one, hope this was a good lesson getting to know, that an aircraft engine with an electric starter/generator will not reach self sustaining speed with 12VDC instead of 28VDC. How long did he work on jet engines?

  • I would not know that answer and I am not a jet engine person myself. we filmed it several years ago

  • I'm pretty sure this engine is thought for 28VDC as this is the standard voltage of aircraft direct current buses. Your friend should have known this but its too late anyway.

  • I own one of these engines (link in profile).

It is/was a WR27 APU. It was never manufactured with electric start in any voltage so that's been added after the navy scraped it.

You need a powerful motor to allow the APU to accelerate fast enough to stay below its max temp during the start, or you melt your hot section as shown.

So the motor may not have been as capable as it should have, or simply the the poor guy had a mechanical failure (delivery compressor intake door opened etc..)

  • Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to jetpower06. Oh well.

  • put me down for two...

  • thats the guy who built chaos2 right?

  • george francis(chaos2) arfa chilcott aka zztop (mortis) Ian watts (bigger brother) all from robot wars fame.

  • looked like a nice engine.

i think the start up was too wet and allowed the turbine blades to overheat and expand until they touched the NGV/stator and then it gave up.

    great video clip though.

  • Some people think is enought put fuel into turbine to make it work!

  • Hot start. should have been aborted before recking the motor!.

  • Don't buy a used APU of this man, he just recked it!

  • whoo that must have been LOUD!!!!
