this isn't a tribute performance to Lennon. This was performed in September of 1980, at Elton John's huge Central Park free concert. Two months before Lennon was murdered.

If he was home that dya, Lennon would have been able to hear this performance from his Dakota apartment on the other side of the park.

In fact there was actually a big rumour that Lennon was going to make a surprise appearance at this concert. Afterall, Lennon's last live performance came 6 years earlier at an Elton John concert in Madison Square Garden. Him and Elton were good friends and John was on the verge of re-emerging into the public eye at the time of this concert.

There was absolutely NO BUZZ about Lennon appearing at Elton's Central Park Concert.

Those things always become an open secret in NYC just like it did in 1974 when Lennon joined Elton onstage.

I keep seeing this posted by people that were not at the Central Park Show, and most of the people posting this weren't even born yet.
