You are correct about the silver content.

.925 silver is named as sterling silver.

Meaning .925 % pure silver. The other alloys (commonly copper) is added to the .999 silver to make it harder in preventing scratches and dings.

If you want to find less trash turn on the machine and goto the jewelery mode and see what is highlited then switch to customs mode and made it look like the jewelery mode then take a clad penny and place it on the ground and discremenate it out, don't worry it will reappear under the dime icon.

Sensitivity setting:

wet area: 2-3 bars

dry area: 3-4 bars now your ready to go hunting
