I actually like both versions. My preference leans towards Faye Wong, but this version is also sweet and tenderly sung. This is a more happy version i think, like this version would be played when you finally confessed to the person you love, and they love you back. Faye's version would be like the longing and desire for the person who doesn't know her feelings yet :3. That's just my humble opinion anyway :3.
I cant say I dont like to listenn this version more... Why? because I always pictured eyes on me in this style. Julia is a singer in game who sung in a bar and piano is only instrument that she sung with. its far more suited for eyes on me than fays version. Even thought both versions are great.
I like the style she sings it in, but I love Faye Wong's, too! It's almost too hard to choose, but I think I prefer Faye Wongs. But man, this is really catchy! :D
Well guys, if anyone says that the original is better, I suggest you to hear Faye Wong in Live (if you find the one that is not in playback, of course XD ), then listen to this version... Angela Aki is defenetly a better singer then Faye Wong...
The original studio version is wonderful, but for me, maybe because I'm a musician, the live part counts more then the studio one, with no programs covering your ass, just you and your voice... or well, at least is what I think, just my opinion ^^
her accentuates are weird. like stressing weirdly on the words. but she's good i guess. her's is more innocent-like, as compared to faye's more romantic version
Retards... Angela Aki is just singing a song. Do we have to think of ff8 instead of enjoying the song without thinking anything at all? Aren't you all saying that you all like this song because it was in the ff8? So this song wouldn't be good if you all haven't heard it in ff8?

I'm very happy to know the Angela Aki haters haven't commented recently (*Cough*mnm213*cough*), as I think Angela rocks. They're just trying to pick out tiny points in her performance.
Whilst, yes, some people also enjoy Faye Wong, it doesn't mean the fans have to war out on each other.

I love Angela and I think she has made a excelent work with this. Maybe she doesn't have the clothes for that performance but is her style! I think this version is better than the one of Faye Wong... Why?, simple, remember that this song is written by Julia to Laguna Loire, and she play the piano and sang, so... this version is more like Julia that the one of Faye Wong. I love you Angela! You're the best!
But hey, don't call her names. She picked the song because she must have loved the one Faye sang don't you think?
Would you like to do a cover of a music that you like, and have people criticize your work, and calling you names? Problably you wouldn't like it. So you can say that the other version is better, but please don't call her names, she's doing her best!
Yeah, me to. I think they're both great. Even though they both have a different "feeling," I still enjoy both and admire both of the versions good qualities.
I dont like Angela's Version, Faye's is better, now you wonder why Faye Wong looks a little mad when she sings "Eyes On Me" in a concert. She is probably thinking how everyone thinks Angela's Version is better, (which isnt cause she sounds like crap).
Please stop being so critical of Angela Aki. She gave a damn good performance. She and Faye Wong are very gifted singers and I love both versions of this song. Rock on Angela! ^.^
Seems so silly comparing a live song with a recorded one since the recorded one usually get polished up with computers while live is live. Futhermore, the singer gets help by the song director and usually have to sing several parts of the song over and over again. Once that is done, the editor reconstructs the song.
Both versions are excellent - this one seems a bit more 'Western', more towards what we think of 'power ballads' If only somebody did this as an album track, I would think Christina Aguilera would do a job of this song
I prefer Angela's better since it is less somber than Faye's. Faye's voice seems to crack up when she sings parts of the song. For example, you can hear her voice cracks up a bit when she says "Darling," "when I am there for you," and "When it come to y-you."
the style is great. anyway, entertainers are there to entertain the crowd. how many people in this world know about vibrato/breathing technique/staccato/etc? what matters most is the overall feel of the whole performance in my opinion.
Hi Mishimoto. I'm not trying to make anyone "like" Faye. But if you have studied music and voice before (like I have) it's pretty easy to recognize vocalists who are singing "properly". I'm merely giving my learned opinion about what is good about Faye's vocals. I'm also not saying Angela "sucks" I'm just pointing out her unpolished vocals. :)
Rando, I'd also like to invite you to view my favorited videos. You may not "like" them, but you cannot deny that Faye Wong has great vocal techinque. I myself am always amazed by her transitions between vocal registers, her projection from the diaphragm, her breath control, the proper use of her head voice, her good pitch and her phrasing. I also admire how she handles herself when she makes mistakes, because yes, no one is ever perfect all the time. Happy viewing
Woooah, hey, if she says Faye sucks but Angela rocks nothing you're gonna say is gonna change her mind. Vise Versa; if she like's Faye and thinks Angela sucks it's her oppinion.
I like Angela's version better than Faye's because her english is clearer -- BUT I like Faye's better because of the tune.
Man, you guys are getting nasty over nothing. Nothing either of you say is gonna change the other person's mind so just STOP. O_o
I don't think so, check out the live versions of Faye's Eyes On Me on youtube. Much better. The phrasing, vibrato, breathing are all superior to Angela. Also, English is Faye's third language; I think it's impressive that she sings EOM at all. Also, are you crazy? Faye's live singing isn't good. Check out some live clips on youtube. Also, her '94 concert CD... FLAWLESS vocals.
if you ever hear faye wong in live, she sucks. I've been to a concert of hers and she sings terribly live. If you want to compare recorded versions between the two, then your statement is perfectly legitimate. But if you want to compare faye's "live" version to this live version, Angela is superior.
You can absolutely like this one better than the original. But to say that it's better? Forget it. The vocals in the original are much better. Faye Wong's subtle use of an even vibrato, changing the texture of her voice, employing the use of a bel canto technique, use of the head voice, breath control, emoting the feeling of the song based on the story. In terms of vocals, Faye's is superior. Don't mistake personal preference for "superiority".
You mkae a good point, there is more to singing than having a great voice and a skilled vibrato; expressions and emulating the feeling of the song do a great deal, even if a lot of people won't notice.
