they were just sad people after they divorced...she made movies but she always looked sad..then she leaves America and lives in Spain her remaining days.. wonder if that was to put the miles between them? Guess she never went back home to North Carolina hills where she was born... beautiful woman.
@bronteteri She lived in Spain for years then moved to London where she eventually died. She is buried in North Carolina next to her parents. This is a really sad song thinking about what could have been. I think they were both too impetuous and fiery, plus she aborted his baby, and he never forgave her for that. It seems to me that she was a somewhat sad person after she and Frankie divorced, and to live the rest of her days in Europe, away from her family. How lonely she must have been.
maybe in appearance but he kept going back to his WIFE, the first Mrs Sinatra up to his latter years...so yes I believe he loved Ava but was in love with HIS WIFE
@headedsomewhere he loved his first wife for sure and she was the mother of his children but he didn't love her like he loved ava with that passion. Ava was his soulmate and the love of his life.
Great song, nice pictures. Frank is right on the money, as usual. My favorite interpretation of this song remains the one by Jo Stafford, still, 5 stars to this post.
Ava was blessed with a face that could launch a MILLION ships--forget a thousand!
That sort of beauty only comes along once in a century, possibly a millenia...!!!!

You might mention, too, that it was written by Matt Dennis and Tom Adair. Lovely stuff, in any case ...

Frankie and Ava -- the only real one for either. (Great job of selecting/meshing/uploading the pictures with another of FS's marvelous early songs.)
