the first time I heard this performed it was by Sir Robert Gildoff acoustically at Live Aid...love Joe, love this cover as well. Thank you Graham for a great song
Hi ! This song is one of the 5 first songs that I've learned, in 1980, by ears (there was no internet), and I've been happy, when I've found the partition, that I had played just 1 chord that wasn't the one G.Parker is playing. I didn't know that Joe Jackson had covered it, and I'm happy to be able to listen to his version. With a Piano,he's just awesome, so this version is sounding well to my ears. Thanks for sharing ! BYE !
yet another proof of joe's genius - who'd dare cover this song? and who'd succeed in making it his very own?
i agree with MultiKbar, he sounds incredible here, he is cautious and pensive and angry and sad and more... first time i saw this video, his piano and singing gave me the shivers.
as for pathetic renditions of this song, i seem to remember bob geldof once crooning his way through it, just as if the abortion had been performed on him.
He sounds fantastic here. He just gets better and better at singing! How many singers can you say that about, really... now if they just get rid of those damn electric drums when they play live!
