Because these videos are recorded with a special 3D video camera - ordinary videos don't work. The cameras that take these videos actually take 2 recordings at the same time, one from a slightly different angle, and the result is 2 images that when put together create what appears to be 3D.

The glasses you get from the movie theaters such as the Reald 3d glasses use polarized light and therefore will not not work on this video. This is not polarized 3d. It is anaglyph 3d like the old cardboard glasses with the red and cyan lenses. Only those will work.

If I could DL the parallel video then I could use the NVidia 3D video player to render it.

The colored glasses suck, and I find that after watching a movie with them my vision gets messed for a couple minutes after.

The NVidia glasses work great with most games though with DirectX 11 out now there seems to be an issue (update needed). However it's disappointing that there is a lack of movies that work with them.

avatar glasses dont use color they use polarization, you need a special/screen projector to do the two different types of light - try this though. hold them backwards and look at your screen

Gli occhiali che danno al cinema sono polarizzanti (le lenti sono leggermente scure entrambe).

Il tipo di occhiale che serve qui è un occhio rosso l'altro verde. So che alcuni DVD hanno il 3D codificato in questo modo e nella confezione trovi anche gli occhiali. Su e-bay ci sono in vendita, altrimenti cerca su google indicazioni su come costruirli.

@itsTippedABLAM IF your eyes hurt then you are not doing it correctly. You need to cross your eyes so that u see 4 images (Each 2 paired together) and then adjust your eyes until 2 opposite images merge into each other. You should now see 3 images, focus your sight on the middle one and eventually it will be clear and you can view it in 3d. You should start by viewing photos in 3D before videos as a practice thats how I managed to do it. SO try googling "3D cross eyed photos". Good luck.
