Hello, I'm 15 year old pianist from Serbia. I've learn the first etude and I've thought that I've nearly learnt second. But, when I turned on the metronome, it showed that I was playing second etude much slower. It will be very hard to increase the speed. Any suggestions?
I can't wait for the future where genetically engineered babies born with 7 fingers play stuff 10x more fantastic than this (if it is even possible to be more fantastic)!
Throughout the whole of molto vivace, I was crying. Not only because of the awesomeness of the piece, but mostly because just by listening I could visualize how terrifyingly difficult it is. My gosh.
I find the tempo quite fast for all of the 3 studies. It seems to me that the technique and virtuose are valorized over the more melodical parts of the song. The melody's appreciation therefore somewhat limited, specially in the 1st and 2nd studies. Certainly, however, I couldn't do better.
@Celach - please i'd be very pleased if you give me a link of all individual mp3's from this concert. Thank you in advance :D - this recordings are amazing
Thank you for posting this. I decided in my old age to study the lives of great pianists and their music. I would appreciate any help, and suggestions.
@celach Idk if I would go as far as to say he was overrated, but I see your point. However, you must remember that even Liszt held Chopin in high regard. He may not have been as good of a pianist as Liszt was, but Liszt actually conceded that Chopin was the better composer. It's, in my opinion, more of a case that Liszt is underrated than Chopin being overrated (kind of like saying that Antonio Salieri was underrated rather than saying Mozart was overrated.)
@celach Yes, thats ok, but 0.000000000001% of them (and of their mothers, if you want) recordered it like he wanted.
Are you the kind of person who only like fast fingers and machines and fall asslep with beutiful things well played like chopin´s peaces? Because you seem like that -.- when robots start playing piano you gonna support they?? well, i always thouth circus was for children but maybe i´m wrong...
@kzelmer It's also not about general consensus either. I find him overrated. His sonatas are nice, sure. But I find much of his music not to my tastes.
Also if you look carefully I said "in my opinion". Cheers.
LOL. the number 1 (preludio) was so easy for him. it was like a warm up you could tell because the last chord he just shrugged it off while chewing some gum or something :]
1) At 0:40 he senses something smelly in the air, and so he bends his head towards his armpits.... just for the sake of being sure!!
2) At 1:21 as he hits the notes on the keyboard, he silently thinks: "TAKE THAT MR I AM A TOUGH STEINWAY!"
3) Starting at 5:00 he takes a glance at the audience and SUSPECTS a pretty lady standing... he continues to play but can't help himself to look for at least 2 more times!
4)At 5:33 Berezovsky begins to fall asleep...zzzzzzzzz
You will see the keyboard moving back to 'tre corde' posittion, because Mr. Berezovsky releases the soft pedal. For those who aren't made familiar with the mechanism: when pressed, the soft pedal moves the entire keyboard and the hammers so they hit only one string of each note, instead of three.
Actually, there may be a mistake there. It's very difficult to tell with the speed he is playing at, but one of the chords within the "arpeggio" definatly sounds wrong.
Still, Berezovsky is great, my favourite performer of these etudes.

I could watch him play molto vivace even without the sound. Amazing.

Maan, i want to play this so bad, if only for the simply AMAZING intro.
Too bad I probably would never be able to play that without like, 1 1/2 years of 4 hour practice sessions.
Bravo!

wow, you realize in the beginning of the first etude, he plays the chord that spans more than a tenth, freaking big ass hands

@celach Compare Liszt's etudes to Chopin's. One might say it is like comparing "noise" to music. :p

Take a closer look at 1:32.

Wow you are right! It's very hard to spot.
mahallati 2 years ago
It`s easier to see in HD and full screen and in the sharp keys.
rflo1981 2 years ago
it hits 2 of the 3 strings not 1
schumannetudes 2 years ago 2
You are right.
Some pianos of Mozart's time was able to hit only one string. But modern pianos it´s two.

Yeah, but soft pedal isn´t so common, is it? :S
