Yeah man, I like the way the sound efx corresponded with the two trains. Nice stack/auto train. I also like the phz 3 P42 in with the phz 4. Nice clip.
@BLKdurangoTRAINhorns Thanks for the compliment. The phase 3 Amtrak is actually a P40. It has the small backup viewing window on the rear of the car body.
1st - All the sound on this video was dubbed in place from REAL train sounds recorded live at trackside.
2nd - If you're referring to the Amtrak loco leading the passenger train, it has a full compliment of lights including red stop lights. I wired them myself. Take a closer look - the headlight and BOTH ditch lights ARE on!
How come the Phase V P42 is always playing second fiddle to the Phase 3?
And are the newer Athearn units really that much quieter than my older P42 (which is really loud compared to the real sounds of your Amtrak consist in rdw283's vid)?
1st - It's got a burnt out ditch light that I haven't got around to fixing so it gets to be the trailing unit until repaired.
2nd - Both my units are fairly noisy. They tend to quiet down after they "warm up" and gain a little speed. The silver one is a blue box and seems to be quieter than the phase V Ready-to-Roll?!?!? Go figure........
Geeze, if you look REALLY close, the locomotives don't even have traction motors, the cast on brakes don't work, there's no HO scale real people in the cars, and nobody is running the engines either....................so much for my fantasy.
On my old layout, I got them to run on 18 inch radius curves, but I had to have the wheels, couplers, etc. tuned just right and smooth track on the curves. Trust me, they look much better on broader curves.

The third car has a flat tire in the front truck.. You can hear it clap-clap. Don't you?
The second engine has a bad horn, and there should be two ditch lights, not one. Otherwise Cool!

It's a modular layout and the set-up gets changed on a regular basis.

I guess a few people were startled by the Amtrak - just like what I had intended to do! Hence the title word TRAINS (more than one).

Hey do those autoracks run on 18 radius curves?
Jabbajawz4life 2 years ago
Sorry, the 89' cars recommend 22" radius and the articulated ones recommend 24" radius minimums.
