  • ...yes, he looks like a young Al Pacino more than Hoffman, or a mix of both......

  • k.d. lang sings a beautiful version of this on her album "Hymn of the 49th Parallel" but I like the rawness of Cohen's singing.

  • due how have ppl not heard this song its amazing and famous and leonard cohen he is the man :)

  • This is a very old song. It is awesome that it (and Leonard Cohen) is getting newer listeners.

  • Yeah, but I FOUND this song amazing! :P

  • what year is this recording?

  • @amanhart written 1968, released 1969.

  • Who cares how you found this song.... all that matter is that it is amazing!

  • from @Mgezze22

  • Ah.. I found out about this song... from a book. :3

  • @sonicrocks06 Me too! :)

Actually, from a romanian book, written by Ioana Nicolaie, called 'O pasare pe sarma' ('A bird on the wire'). What book are you talking about?

  • @greenerdreams heh. not exactly... not even... it was a fragment of the song in a chapter book... <:3

  • Like a broken beast I still walk through the dream of America - staggering, still hoping, still crying, still open to joy!

There is a pain in dreaming, in the real dreaming of genuine dreams that cannot be salved by platitudes, that cannot be appeased by jugglers and vendors of purely material illusion. So please let us carry on, through the pain of spiritual aspiration to reach the truth, the genuine elisium of the spirit.

  • @MySerpentine There is always hope!

  • Feeling exactly like a worm on a hook right now.....

  • Well I heard this because I watched "the boat that rocked" and heard "so long Marianne" and Hallelujah hit the charts with 3 different versions at 1,2 & 4. So I thought it was time to give Leonard the time he deserves. . . up to now. . . every second!!

  • fuck lost! this song is above that programme!!!

  • @o0Megatron0o nothing is above lost! XD

  • LEONARD COHEN IS THE MAN!!!!

  • This kind of song is what happens when a poet tries to sing for the first time in his life. The lyrics are for the Neville Brothers to make it a huge hit but this singing sounds way too depressing.

  • this guy is big name... but he sings terrible

  • This was my uncle's favourite song. He passed away 3 days ago and we wrote the songs words on his funeral commemoration card

  • Lost!? What happened to the MOVIE Bird on a Wire!? Although this version is slightly different...

  • the island brought us here : )

  • beautiful song....and no, I'm not listening to this because of lost. but hey, if a lame tv show introduces people to cohen i'm all for it

  • @lostkeys78 Never saw "Lost." I was about to say that I generally disapprove of secondary sources taking a free ride on good music. But then I realized that it was Robert Altman's "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" that introduced me to Cohen in the first place. Still, a lot of these shows and movies are created by bankrupt whores.

  • Amazing!

  • Could anyone give me a link to the Lost promo if it's here on Youtube? Would like to see it and i cant seem to find it :)

  • First "Catch a falling star", now this is getting more attention because of LOST :D

Looking for the next song they re-introduce

  • LOST.....can't wait for Richard's back story next week!

  • Best Lost preview ever!

  • same here because of lost :D

  • wow, is everyone been looking for this song too? i guess that 30 seconds of LOST promo sucked us all in!

  • me too never knew this song til i saw the lost ad! wat a fab song!

  • Lost introduces me to so many great books & knowledge & now this song!

  • Lost here too

  • My mom plays Leonard Cohen in her car ALL the time, but the LOST promo brought me back to it :) Best promo ever if you'd ask me!

  • had it not being for LOST i would of never discovered such a peaceful song

  • lost adertise too lol

  • LOST

  • i'm seeing that i'm not the only one that hear this song because of lost.. lol

  • @21ballack Yeah the best show ever......

  • @21ballack lost was a complete borrowing from a 5,000 (maybe 6,000) year old fable. Cohen hasn't been around that long...i am, however, pretty sure that this jolie petite chanson goes back to the 60s.

  • i love this song for more than years and i still hear this song in my car in my house even when i'm sleeping .leonard one of a kind singer, chapeau

  • Many of us felt, not once, like a bird on a wire....

  • this is from the lost advert

  • Such an amazing song ! it makes me cry and think how my life has turn to be.

This is one hell of a great song though .

  • Am I the only one that thinks this photo of Leonard looks a bit like Dustin Hoffman?

  • Yes!!! I am completely agree!!!

    What a very good observation...

    (Sorry my English...!!!)

  • The reason he looks like Hoffman is he is Jewish.
