It is a silly question and you do make a good point. I think perhaps though that people are asking the wrong question. For example I heard the toxicity of a water snake is much higher than any land snake, but one is not likely to run into a water snake. However this goes back toyour point that the most venemous or deadly snake is the one that has just bit you.
I realize venom is dangerous on so many different levels. My question is what makes the venom of a Mamba so much more dangerous than that of a cottonmouth. Are the breakdown of food different for each snake? Also, what part of the snake produces the venom that goes inside the venom sack? If these are stupid questions let the taunting begin

People have been brought up to talk different ways. The errors from your local dialect generally show up in your text. People from The Blackcountry and the Cockney accent from the UK for example. Neither of these are wrong however they just don't fit your definition of "proper English" Which, you don't speak being American. The way people choose to spell words whilst typing, whether it be wrong or not shouldn't matter on a snake video. There is no need for you to insult your viewers errors

Two: I have always found your on camera commentary to pretty damned amazing. To me it is akin to the sort of running stream of thought that a guy defusing munitions says into the radio as he is working, for basically the same reasons... OK and let's be honest, I enjoy the occasional Curly Howard noise. That soundtrack gives these videos an immediacy that brings the viewer into the moment in a way that voice over never would.

There should be a way to "sticky" videos, the way topics are made sticky on forums, so that new subscribers get prompted to watch them. You can cover your preferences and/or ground rules there. And you can sticky a video where you answer an FAQ and never have to deal with answering that stuff again. Perhaps this functionality exists, I don't have my own channel so I don't know...

Don't be a lousy mentor as i think you could be a great educational tool but realize that there are those on here that may not be as old as you. Young children may be using this as an outlet to gain interest into the hobby and desiring to learn more and do it proper. Latin has no native speakers anymore, no one's first language is Latin, well perhaps the occasional prodigy that studies old scientific or religious or poetic texts.

I agree with all three rants and I like your honesty. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that the world need's more individuals like yourself to cut egos down to size. I'm currently taking Radio Broadcasting at school and a lot of what I do is script writing. After looking over comments posted on a number of different videos, I can see why this rant was necessary.
Its a shame that you would go on such a rant. As an educator you should expect to run into such issues. Not everyone has seen every one of your videos to start. Lets also remember not every person is an adult and may be a young child who is just starting to find his fascination with snakes. I respect your work and I admire the fact that you work within such a dangerous environment but as far as I am concerned you are way out of line by being critical of your viewers. Get over it.

You have to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. Would you consider keeping a "depleted" venomous/non-venomous snake like the Rhabdophis tigrinus (who stores the alkaloids from Mantella frogs in their neck glands) or... would that snake a) be considered non-venomous or b) uninteresting without a healthy supply of (for example) Dendrobates azureus?

Ok so back when I was in ranger school, at my second time through the snake show(recycle) on of the Instructors on the snake team went on a rant about some scientist who had poo poo'd the copperheads venom and was either killed by a copperhead bite or very nearly killed. Cant remember his name, but does that ring any bells?
Point VERY well made and true. Actually doesn't have to be a poisonous snake to kill either. In inexperienced hands and with little attention that lack of attention can be fatal. Many people ask why I don't film striking when feeding it's because ALL of my attention goes on the snake for my protection as well as the snakes.
btw, I agree do agree with you the snake you get bit by is the most deadly one. I hate those questions, but I still feel that a 15 minute rant is overboard

Yes, It's one of two I own. One old one that was my uncles, just standard peep-sights for close in use and one with a very nice scope for long shots. I don't beleve in hunting except for food if needed. They are for defence if required. Yeah I'm from NYS, I know all about it.

Question: You may have answered this already but which is better to feed snakes- live mice or frozen mice that are dethawed in microwave for a few seconds? A friend of mine has pythons and was wondering which is better for the snakes.
I work with MW's all the time. They really really denature proteins, not a good idea if you like to preserve vitamins and other important compounds in food

Side note, that last serpent you said probably wouldn't end one's life, was that a Copperhead...and if so, they aren't commonly lethal? I had always thought them to be as potentially deadly to humans as a Rattlesnake, Water Moccasin, or what have you... Then again, I have also heard that the lethality of all three of those serpents has been extremely exaggerated, though still quite dangerous.
I find it rather amusing that people actually harp on your pauses, slurring, so on and so forth. I always figured the case to be exactly as you put it, and found it quite amazing that you could multi-task between watching the serpent, managing the camera, and actually carrying on a conversation. I, myself, would only be able to carry on the conversation while watching the serpent..throw the management of the camera into the mix, and I'm sure I'd get myself bit.

Two: I have always found your on camera commentary to pretty damned amazing. To me it is akin to the sort of running stream of thought that a guy defusing munitions says into the radio as he is working, for basically the same reasons... OK and let's be honest, I enjoy the occasional Curly Howard noise. That soundtrack gives these videos an immediacy that brings the viewer into the moment in a way that voice over never would.

There should be a way to "sticky" videos, the way topics are made sticky on forums, so that new subscribers get prompted to watch them. You can cover your preferences and/or ground rules there. And you can sticky a video where you answer an FAQ and never have to deal with answering that stuff again. Perhaps this functionality exists, I don't have my own channel so I don't know...

Don't be a lousy mentor as i think you could be a great educational tool but realize that there are those on here that may not be as old as you. Young children may be using this as an outlet to gain interest into the hobby and desiring to learn more and do it proper. Maybe someone had a typo they missed or whatever point is in terms of education you need to learn some compassion and caring. Are you married? i bet your divorced or have been divorced the holier than though gets you nowhere.

Mentor and leaders do the tought things, they're not a weenie about it like you suggest. Those interested in learning will heed my suggestion, weenies will not and therefore fail. I agree, it lives on, however, in a sense Latin is dead, obviously. It doesn't change as living languages do, mostly orally, from region to region, & from generation to generation.
Latin has no native speakers anymore, no one's first language is Latin, well perhaps the occasional prodigy that studies old scientific or religious or poetic texts.
Your channel & site inspire me to do my own research (instead of bothering u about it.) I would like u to review a broader range of topics though.

I agree with all three rants and I like your honesty. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that the world need's more individuals like yourself to cut egos down to size. I'm currently taking Radio Broadcasting at school and a lot of what I do is script writing. After looking over comments posted on a number of different videos, I can see why this rant was necessary.

Its a shame that you would go on such a rant. As an educator you should expect to run into such issues. Not everyone has seen every one of your videos to start. Lets also remember not every person is an adult and may be a young child who is just starting to find his fascination with snakes. I respect your work and I admire the fact that you work within such a dangerous environment but as far as I am concerned you are way out of line by being critical of your viewers. Get over it.

Would you consider keeping a "depleted" venomous/non-venomous snake like the Rhabdophis tigrinus (who stores the alkaloids from Mantella frogs in their neck glands) or... would that snake a) be considered non-venomous or b) uninteresting without a healthy supply of (for example) Dendrobates azureus?

Ok so back when I was in ranger school, at my second time through the snake show(recycle) on of the Instructors on the snake team went on a rant about some scientist who had poo poo'd the copperheads venom and was either killed by a copperhead bite or very nearly killed. Cant remember his name, but does that ring any bells?

Point VERY well made and true. Actually doesn't have to be a poisonous snake to kill either. In inexperienced hands and with little attention that lack of attention can be fatal. Many people ask why I don't film striking when feeding it's because ALL of my attention goes on the snake for my protection as well as the snakes.

Yes, It's one of two I own. One old one that was my uncles, just standard peep-sights for close in use and one with a very nice scope for long shots. I don't beleve in hunting except for food if needed. They are for defence if required. Yeah I'm from NYS, I know all about it.

I'm from one of the poorest Countrys in Europe, Romania, but i speak 4 languages ^^ because knowledge is power. English is my favourite one.

Side note, that last serpent you said probably wouldn't end one's life, was that a Copperhead...and if so, they aren't commonly lethal? I had always thought them to be as potentially deadly to humans as a Rattlesnake, Water Moccasin, or what have you... Then again, I have also heard that the lethality of all three of those serpents has been extremely exaggerated, though still quite dangerous.

I find it rather amusing that people actually harp on your pauses, slurring, so on and so forth. I always figured the case to be exactly as you put it, and found it quite amazing that you could multi-task between watching the serpent, managing the camera, and actually carrying on a conversation. I, myself, would only be able to carry on the conversation while watching the serpent..throw the management of the camera into the mix, and I'm sure I'd get myself bit.
