You have got some flying skill to fly in those kinds of wind, I took mine out in just over 10mph for the first time and that was scary 35mph winds are only for the professional or insane.
Man that bites... That wind is terrible, your nuts for flyin in it man...lol We all do it, at least you can admit when you screw up or make a bad choice... Your character is better than most when it comes to that... Love your videos, keep it up man
to avoid issues with wind, you could do what i did. call ur local colleges and high schools, if they have large stadiums, ans ask for days they'd be willing to let you come in and fly. im lucky in that i have 2 universities and a couple of high schools that suit me fine and i fly big birds to. my smallest is my 44in wingspan raptor. i not only avoid the public a little bit but i draw a nice group of on lookers each time to.
Hi nightflyyer, love your videos, I need your help? My blueray is very slow to respond to pitch changes while flying. Have had this trouble for a while. Cant figure it out. Plus I have way to much + and - pitch. It is off the pitch guage? Any ideas? Thank you for your time and responce. Foodman3920031
i wish that there was allways good weather so we could fly outdoor helicopters cuz indoor 1s r like for professionall ppl who ffly rc helicopters...indoor ones break easly and wen u play outdoor ones in door they cannot fly cuz they they r soo big!!but i have broke 5 rc helicopters but they r soo addicting and fun i still got another !
Dont ever doubt Nightflyer. He has hundreds of messages a day. I thought the same as you after I sent a message to him. I was expecting an answer pretty quickly and thought maybe he hadnt read my message. but a little patience pays off. and he replied the other day. you must understand that he has many fans all asking questions and he must spend hours replying back to everyone which he cant do in one day. oh and Nightflyer.. That is a sad thing to say to me, as I try very hard to answer everybody. Maybe you should look at my latest video, (my 300th) and see how many emails I have a day. Right now, I have been typing for 4 hours and still have over 2000 emails in my box. Shame on you.
i bought a really expensive begginers rc plane like 350 dollars and i got scared when i was flying it around trees so i tried to land it and i crashed and totaled it. i also hit a fence with my remote control helicopter and broke it too
Always get a real instructor to help the first time, just like real planes and helis. It is very difficult to learn on a Porsche, instead of a VW first. Sorry. Good luck next time and read my 9 heli flying tips if you have them.
Not a good feeling when we crash. That Exceed Blueray sure looks like a winner, and at that price, not bad at all! Thanks for all the info you share freely, and I have already learned a bit from you. My learning curve has me currently flying a Blade 400. I started out with a MCX, and then a mild Helimax CP, now the Blade. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your videos here.
ok i did my simulater practices and i got the hang of it, i was wondering, i was looking at some walkera helis like the walkera dragonfly 4#3B, it looks like a nice, but i'd like ur advice, is it a good brand, or is there any other better company or heli, i just want a heli i can fly indoors, but still can fly outside with no problems. give me ur advice please
hey dave, im a big rc guy, mainly in rc trucks and cars, i now realize that being on the ground can get a bit boring, so i think im going to get a rc heli and not gas, well i wanna get one but i don't know wat r good and wats not, i was looking at eflite helis, they look nice but very pricey, is there any other helis that are made well, but not to pricy
Hey Dave, bad luck I hate that walk to see what the damage is don't you :-( I have posted a vid link to one of my crashes with my 4CH heli, my mistake as I cut power too quick and lost hold!
Yes I did I subsrcibe to your channel. I'm getting into RC planes soon for my third childhood something I always wanted to do but never got the time. Your videos have reinspired me lol. Just haven't decided my best way to train I bought a simulator but not crazy about it much too easy to get disoriented on it being a little dot on the screen lol.
It is the combination of all 7 controls at once, and when it turns around 4 of them are reversed. Most cant handle that very long and if a gust of wind or get disoriented, then it is over.
Also, the sticks must only be moved a "hair" at a time, and all the time, not banged around like video games.
Sure your collective extents may not have been set correctly but I wouldn't blame the crash all on that. You successfully rolled back to upright but then crashed after that. I'd call it a "panic" crash. My 450 has seen a few :) I now keep the 3D stuff a little higher up.
Do you fly in any sims? I practice in Phoenix Sim using my DX6i. I consider it the most valuable thing in the world (saved me thousands in crash costs) for RC Heli fliers. I've heard RealFlight, FSOne and a few others are really good as well.
Curiosity asks why you flew in 30 - 35 mph winds. I'm just starting in the hobby and thoroughly enjoy your videos. It's like having my own training at my computer.
Hey Dave:) I wanted to know what you think about upgraded parts as in the metal parts, like swash plate, tail assembly, blade grips and so on. Is it worth it, does it make it more stable or are the plastic stock parts just fine? I just bought an Esky Honey Bee 2 and wondered if I should up grade those parts or not. Also do you know how well the Honey Bee 2 can handle wind, lets say 10-15 mph?
Love your videos they have been helpful while I was learning 4ch heli, now im moving up to 6ch 3D:)
To me, most is hype as none of my plastic parts or stock helis ever wore out or broke, unless I crashed. That is the only time I would consider upgrading parts. Bigger brushless motors always sound tempting too, but the tail rotor usually cant keep up with the extra torque and power. My theory, is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I have lots of HB videos flying in very heavy winds, so you can see for yourself that they do well, if you know how to fly. Thanks for the kind words and good luck.
So how much it cost you to put her back in shape? When I crashed my Kyosho RRR (it went UNDER the guard wall at the local track at about 60-70 MPH) it "only :" cost me an exploded fuel tank - luckily it was almost empty and the fuel didn't splashed the engine :))
Not a nice feeling though - the sound of carbon fiber and plastics crunching :)))))))))))))))
Not sure yet, as I have not gotten the parts, I don't think it will be too bad. I flew gas nitro for years, and can tell you it wont burn on a hot engine and catch fire, so relax. But fuel is messy all over everything. LOL.
At least I got the front drivetrain nicely oiled FROM OUTSIDE :))) Destroyed the foam tyres I was using on that time. I didn't know the nitro doesn't burn in contact with the hot engine - must be the temperature is not high enough for autoignition... I checked your other videos - really nice flying :)
Oh dear,, I know what it feels like,, i've also got a Rc buggy on nitro and if i crash that that sucks too,, but then the hard thing starts, comming home and telling my parents:p they always start lauging and then i have to find new parts...:S i've got a quite uncommen brand HongNorr so i have to order from the web and wait for ages until the arrive,,
Dave I just picked up one of those Eflite CP2's the 3d mini heli ITS awesome little machine you should check this little guy out great for those crazy winters you have and flying in the gym. =) Amazingly stable for such a small size.
What did the guy in your LHS say Dave? "You.... Crashed?" I did mine last w/end, pure dumb thumb moment, inverted, and pushed when I shoulda pulled. But it's comforting in a funny sort of way to see that even the best have off days.
still a better pilot then me-i was just trying to hover my heli when i tiped it over on accident and got a rotor stuck in my wall...it was my first try
Yeah the wind where your at is pretty strong, not for me as i dont even have a flying machine. I'm surprised at your skills even after the near misses i would have lost it after the first near miss and caused a crater... but not you :)
Perhaps one day, I'll remember to hit the throttle hold too. Unfortunately, my typical thought process immediately pre-crash goes more like this: "@*&#?X!"
Good thing those replacement drive gears are inexpensive!
Yeah! Everybody crashes once in a while. Your crash in this video was not too nasty, though. I crashed my TREX 450 two weeks ago while practicing loops. My heli looked like "abstract art". Ha ha ha!
This even inspire me more, last month i bought first a futaba flight simulator to practice first as the dubai rc hobby shop suggested. even in the simulator i crash more and more. the airplane is easy to fly and to land but i dont wanna purchase it in the future. i most wanted the helis which i prefer the best for me. there is a Vibe 5 channel and a T rex 5 channel im planning to buy but before ill stick to the simulator and the 4 channel first. nice video thanks.
ouch dave that was a rought landing lol now i dont feel so bad about crashing my hummingbird i got into a left slide drop so i leveled it out but was going to fast and powerd down the throttle made a smooth crash landing but smashed my tail rotor i glued it back together lol
Your comments are contradictory, I never blamed anybody or anything. I just said it wouldn't hold inverted long enough on that slow close roll to the ground. I am simply showing that anybody can crash, even me, no matter what the reason.
Thanks. Your right. I rolled a slow roll too low, with not enough negative pitch, which I should have checked more thoroughly on the tx first, but in the wind, it is very hard to tell.
Yes, they should. There is a knob on this Particular TX that adjusts the positive and negative pitch. I dont like it, as it can get bumped easy. This is only the 5th time I flew this heli, as the weather has been miserable for 6 months. I cant wait to get it dialed in, with good weather.
I can make it +12 and -5 degrees neg, if I wanted to. I wanted 0 at center, but its difficult to tell, till you fly and in this wind, its even more difficult. I thought I was close enough and rolled too low.
I use my Spektrum on lots of my other helis and planes. But this one came with the TX, so that is why I am using it. Id prefer the Spektrum, cause it is programmable.
arent you glad you have a buddy lol, i didnt remember the throttle hold switch myself for 3D when you crash, did you attempt to loop a few times? seemed like every time you were about to roll inverted it would not let you, as in you'd get to the top of the loop and not finish off on a few of them.
Yeah, thanks. I should have dialed in my pitch curve better, as this heli tx has a knob, (not like my spectrum) and I rolled to low with not enough neg pitch. Pilot error.
35 mph.. I'd be on the sim! You controlled it well until it went down. I love the Blueray. Mine's about 1/3 trex now with some replacement parts. You crash, you fix, you fly again. Maybe a higher kV motor is in the near future?
Haha. That too.... Yep, I slow rolled to low, with not enough neg pitch. This is only the 5th time I have flown this heli, so haven't got it dialed in yet, and especially in the darn wind.
Haha. Yep, I slow rolled too low, with not enough negative pitch, which I should have tried to dial in a little better, but hey, it is part of the learning curve. Thanks for the kind words.
Dave you have some big old b---s to fly it in that wind mate as it's not a big heli and things where going well up untill the crash,i always say to my mrs i hate doing that walk of shame but if we don't we don't learn where we went wrong and it's nice to see you are a mortal man just like the rest of us mere mortals,10 out of ten for showing it =5*
heh, if you don't push it just that little bit, you're missing out on all the fun! Fortunately (almost) everything is repairable for a price - time and money.

Sims give a big false sense of security, so you will be surprised when you fly the real one. The 22e is a nice machine, however. Good Luck,

Here is what I tell people.
I appreciate your frustration with looking for the proper helicopter for you.
I say "Learn on a VW and if you never crash it, then get the Porsche and also read my 9 heli flying tips, if you got em".
Any 4 channel Helicopter is good for learning on beginning with coaxials
Get something that you can learn on like an MCX or the Esky Hunter. In the long run, you will save more time and money.
Sims are cheap compared to one good crash of a 3d heli.
Good luck, Dave

honestly what makes the most diffeculty in flying a rc heli? the tail rotor?
leviterande 2 years ago
It is the combination of all 7 controls at once, and when it turns around 4 of them are reversed. Most cant handle that very long and if a gust of wind or get disoriented, then it is over.
Also, the sticks must only be moved a "hair" at a time, and all the time, not banged around like video games.

Hi, my dear friend Dave!
Yeah! Everybody crashes once in a while. Your crash in this video was not too nasty, though. I crashed my TREX 450 two weeks ago while practicing loops. My heli looked like "abstract art". Ha ha ha!
More power and God bless you, my friend!
yours,
Tony

Thanks Tony. I appreciate your comments, and you know the feeling first hand too.

the impossible just became possible :|.
thats a first! XD.
mke15 2 years ago
Haha. I crashed a lot in the beginning years as it is part of the learning curve.....still is, huh? I appreciate your comment.

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it.

Please keep up the videos i love watching all these especially the flying alarm clock LOL.

Haha. Thanks very much. Yep, Jeff got me good on that one.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
ouch dave that was a rought landing lol now i dont feel so bad about crashing my hummingbird i got into a left slide drop so i leveled it out but was going to fast and powerd down the throttle made a smooth crash landing but smashed my tail rotor i glued it back together lol
exiledconnections 2 years ago
Thanks. I appreciate that.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
so you had throttle hold on during flight?
jonnic2000 2 years ago
Yes.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
:(
that sucks man. im sorry...
but at least it didnt end up in the trash!
:)
keep it up. i love your vids!

NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Yeah yeah, explanations explanations, that heli crashed not due to pilot mistake, but due to mechanical isues :D
Mr. Herbert, face the truth it was your mistake.
sixeris 2 years ago
Your comments are contradictory, I never blamed anybody or anything. I just said it wouldn't hold inverted long enough on that slow close roll to the ground. I am simply showing that anybody can crash, even me, no matter what the reason.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
I understand, but I'm surprised, whats the point to put +pitch more and -pitch less in a 3D mode. the + and - pitch angles should be the same.
sixeris 2 years ago
i believe he was referring to more + and - while doing the roll. He knows what hes talking about been flying for longer than ive been alive.
3DRCFOAMY 2 years ago
Thanks. Your right. I rolled a slow roll too low, with not enough negative pitch, which I should have checked more thoroughly on the tx first, but in the wind, it is very hard to tell.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Yes, they should. There is a knob on this Particular TX that adjusts the positive and negative pitch. I dont like it, as it can get bumped easy. This is only the 5th time I flew this heli, as the weather has been miserable for 6 months. I cant wait to get it dialed in, with good weather.
I can make it +12 and -5 degrees neg, if I wanted to. I wanted 0 at center, but its difficult to tell, till you fly and in this wind, its even more difficult. I thought I was close enough and rolled too low.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
One more question.
Why you dont use the DX6i ?
I think its really good tx, I have one and using it with my Hurricane 550.
sixeris 2 years ago
I use my Spektrum on lots of my other helis and planes. But this one came with the TX, so that is why I am using it. Id prefer the Spektrum, cause it is programmable.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
been waiting to see some nightflyyer 3d heli action!
superguy6486 2 years ago
Been waiting for calmer weather too, so I can, cause none of those 3d pros would attempt flying in these winds and do much 3d, like I did
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
umm fixable. with time, effort and parts. also love =]
fleetyboi 2 years ago
Thanks.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
you did well... good flight anyway. Don´t sorry... some news parts and it will be fly again... I like to see you flies.. everyday a new video... wow.
EduBrasil2007 2 years ago
Thanks kindly. I appreciate that. Not much else to do in this long weather.

wops xD
sdrfgvrfgvsfravgdsvS 2 years ago
damn bad luck dude! too windy Ever thought about creating your own prototype with parts of some collision?
Criptografo 2 years ago
Haha. I did make prototypes years ago, but now days, it is just as easy to fix the broken ones..Thanks. I knew It was too windy. Pilot error.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Like soviet fighters, a beautiful flight until the crash.
YOSHIZERO 2 years ago
Thanks. So true.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
arent you glad you have a buddy lol, i didnt remember the throttle hold switch myself for 3D when you crash, did you attempt to loop a few times? seemed like every time you were about to roll inverted it would not let you, as in you'd get to the top of the loop and not finish off on a few of them.
Nice flying though, sorry for the crash
GreenAce92 2 years ago
Yeah, thanks. I should have dialed in my pitch curve better, as this heli tx has a knob, (not like my spectrum) and I rolled to low with not enough neg pitch. Pilot error.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Great flying IMO. I have to concentrate every fiber of my being to keep my honeybee afloat in 3mph winds.
jeepman65 2 years ago
Thanks kindly.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
35 mph.. I'd be on the sim! You controlled it well until it went down. I love the Blueray. Mine's about 1/3 trex now with some replacement parts. You crash, you fix, you fly again. Maybe a higher kV motor is in the near future?
notasixpack 2 years ago
I may have to make some changes, for sure, I just didnt have my pitch curve right.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
5*: and +1 for the repair vid, if you can make one. (re: shield400's comment)
You had good news, tho, you implied that it could be fixed?
KECOG 2 years ago
Thanks a lot.

hey look on the bright side could been alot worst ,,it held up pretty good

the video is choppy
lokij100 2 years ago
And the point?
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
The wind in your area blows only from one direction or it blows randomly?
mouselg 2 years ago
It changes day to day and mostly across this road at an angle.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
no no no it is not pilot error ...?it is just that gravity got the better of you {*_*}
spektrum33 2 years ago
Haha. That too.... Yep, I slow rolled to low, with not enough neg pitch. This is only the 5th time I have flown this heli, so haven't got it dialed in yet, and especially in the darn wind.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
LOL, Great vid Mr. Herbert!
YupHio 2 years ago
Thanks.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
at least you didn't blame it on the wind!!!
it hate people who always say it wasn't me, maybe you prove to them that everyone crashes even the pro's so there is nothing to be ashamed of!!!
5 stars!!!
henman9010
henman9010 2 years ago
Haha. Yep, I slow rolled too low, with not enough negative pitch, which I should have tried to dial in a little better, but hey, it is part of the learning curve. Thanks for the kind words.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
no problem
henman9010 2 years ago
A moment of silence please.........thank you.
robjinhouston 2 years ago
Thanks.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
OH NOOOO!!! I never thought I'd see the day, I'm so sorry Mr Herbert.
+1 to everyone who wan't to see a repair video, I think that would be excellent.
shield400 2 years ago 5
Thanks. Crashing is part of the learning curve and every flight is a lesson.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Dave you have some big old b---s to fly it in that wind mate as it's not a big heli and things where going well up untill the crash,i always say to my mrs i hate doing that walk of shame but if we don't we don't learn where we went wrong and it's nice to see you are a mortal man just like the rest of us mere mortals,10 out of ten for showing it =5*
startazz 2 years ago
Thanks kindly. Yep, that was a dumb move for me to try that slow roll that low with not enough neg pitch....but I wont do that again. LOL
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
heh, if you don't push it just that little bit, you're missing out on all the fun! Fortunately (almost) everything is repairable for a price - time and money.
