QUICK QUESTION: I am wondering if the priming pan is neccessary, since you already have the fuel burning inside the stove. Would that not heat it up enough to get the fuel to pressurize? Shouldn't just lighting the fuel in the middle be enough?
@HammockerSam, Just lighting the fuel inside the stove will eventually prime the stove, it just takes longer. However the priming pan serves 2 purposes, it helps prime the stove faster and while burning it reflects some heat back to the stove to keep it burning more efficiently. We have tried it both ways and the priming pan helps the stove perform so much better.
@ultralightbob Thanks. I was just wondering why you prefered HEET to just Denatured Alcohol. Didn't know if it had more therms or what. I know it is evailable in almost all auto stores. Price wise I am not sure?
@teb0atoz I think both are fine. Denatured alcohol is cheaper because you can buy larger quantities. When you are out on the trail HEET is usually easier to find because it is available in gas stations.
I understand that HEET is a methylated spirit/denatured alcohol. I know that there's always oxygen/ventilation dangers with any flame indoors, but does HEET leave poisonous residue on your cookware or dangerous fumes other than carbon monoxide in the air?
why? thanks for jumping in there ultralightbob with your very constructive remarks. I define performance on how much the stove weighs + the weight of fuel to boil X amount of water + weight of pot, stand, etc... the whole system. I also like to consider a convince (speed, set up, easy to prime or light) and dependability factors which are not as easy to reduce to value.
It is a 2 piece design creating an inner wall. When you place the pot on top of the stove it then becomes a semi-pressurized stove forcing the vaporized alcohol out of the jets.
Isopropyl can be used but it is not your best choice. Avoid Isopropyl rubbing alcohol as it burns poorly and sooty. Use denatured or HEET in the yellow bottle.
Boils times depend on many criteria -Air temperature, water temperature, water volume, altitude, presence of wind and the type and size of the pot. I can only give you a baseline based on the criteria of when I tested the stove. I can boil (rolling boil) 2 cups of 55° water, no wind, 65° room temperature at 5500 ft above sea level in 5.5 minutes. Changing any of the criteria will change the boil times. Hope this helps.

do u have any videos frying up meat or veggies with an alcohol stove?
cypresspeter2008 1 year ago
@cypresspeter2008 No I don't. This type of alcohol stove has no way of simmering. It is either full on or off.

@ultralightbob ----oh ok . i would still like to try it myself soon.
yeah, i don't see any videos on youtube cooking meat or veggies by frying.

How does the windscreen work when wind is blowing, where does it attach?
FoiledFailure 1 year ago
The windscreen does not attach to anything, It simply wraps around the base of the pot.

Thanks bob this Idea is great

Never timed it with 3/4 oz of fuel. Air temperature can change the outcome.
