Forget Wilco, forget Son Volt. This is a band creating the sound you all love. Both of them are good, but this is where they came from, and it shouldn't be overshadowed by two bands that could never be this.
I like Son Volt, and I like Wilco. I heard Tweedy do a cover of Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate"... it was pretty good. And I've seen Jay solo a couple of times... good stuff. Also saw Son Volt once at an outdoor show, mid 90's. I think they complemented each other in Uncle Tupelo. Sure would love to see a reunion.
Why would you even compare the two? I liked both of them the best in Uncle Tupelo, but I've seen Son Volt and Jay solo many times, and they were wonderful. It's just all in what you like!!
I think Jay Ferrar helped make Tweedy the singer he is today. I love Jay's music, but there is that feeling of 'solitude' that it invokes, so I very rarely play it.
who are you calling stupid? am i not entitled to have an opinion? just because wilco ended up being more "popular" than son volt doesn't makes them 'better.' it appears i'm not the only one who thinks jay was the more talented of the two on here. keep your 'stupid' comments to yourself.
No one's putting down Jay on any Wilco video's. I like Jay, but to say Wilco (Tweety) is a major disapointment is just about the most stupid comment I have ever seen... Son Volt just don't compair.
i'm saying wilco is a disappointment to me, not the alt-country music industry. wilco has been very successful and i own a few albums but i just couldn't get into them. just be a little more tactful next time before calling people or their opinions stupid. i may totally disagree with you but i'm not going to call you stupid.
@seaotte: I never even listened to the solo before--it's fantastic! Sounds like J Mascis helped out with it or something. Too bad Dinosaur Jr never went alt country
This was such a great band and Jeff had to be such a dick and ruin it for the rest of the world... thanks asshole! By the way, Wilco sucks and you'll never get out of it what you got from Uncle Tupelo, but as long as you're happy right?
I didn't know there was a video for this song? Great one.

Jay and Jeff might no longer be friends, but they won't find anyone else to put together those rough-cut harmonies as well as they did.

Ah, for a reunion! Maybe Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter could get Farrar and Tweedy back together for just one show.
I'd be there!!!!
