I just saw this movie and I understand its based on real fact. Well.. If they did had a knife all they had to do was put a small hole on the side of the boat. Another one just above and climb. them another one and another one. The boat would not sink as the whole would be above the water. Even if they get a bad weather and the water starts to come in, they are on the boat and would be able to get life jackets and call for help... Or do the same they did on the movie.. but with the knife...
