it's not really a controversy because the Bills should have never had either as starting QBs. Losman was the human interception machine and Edwards is Captain Checkdown
Losman had no more Int's than Edwards, and actually posted a pretty good season the only year they let him start all 16 games (67% completion, and comprable stats to Eli and Rivers that year). His problem was holding on to the ball when receivers weren't open and taking dumb sacks. He was still way better than Trentative Edwards ever thought of being.

Losman has the talent to succeed but sadly he does not fit in with the Bills schemes, he will likely be a much better fit somewhere else. I really hope the bills do better the 2009 season, so disappointing after leading the division for the first quarter to end up on bottom at seasons end.
Losman is more mobile and has a much greater arm. Edwards is a pocket quarter and has good mobility and has great accuracy and a good arm. Edwards>Dirt>Losman =p

Franchise tagging lasts one year, it would make sense, like in most situations, to re-sign him to a big money 5 year deal. Franchising would pay him one year at the league avg for QB.

Losman makes mistakes that give the other team the momentum. when pressured he makes bad decisions and turns the ball over. Rob Johnson had the same problem. If Trent starts against the chargers the bills win, if losman starts, the bills will probably lose.
The Bills got Peters (pro-bowler) back from his hold-out, have a lot of good, developing talent on the line, including Dockery, Walker, and Butler. Preston can fill in at center or right guard if they have injuries, but the starters played every game last season, so that should continue. They will become even more cohesive.
Also, Trent was hurt a lot in college because his O-Line at Stanford wasn't very good and his receivers were injured a lot too. That's why he wasn't drafted high.The Bills have the perfect receiver set this year - Evans (deep threat), Hardy (big target in the end zone), Parrish (can make people miss and get yac), Royal (good all-around TE, good hands [won't drop the ball much, can hang on when getting hit going across the middle]), and even Lynch can catch routes coming out of the backfield.
Edwards is a stud. With Lynch in the backfield (he can catch too), a big threat in the red zone in Hardy, not to mention Edwards loves throwing the ball to Royal, we should be able to put up some points, I don't care how many field goals we have to kick, I'm sure Edwards will get it in the endzone more than Losman - not like we ever scored many TDs with him either. The entire team looks GOOD, we improved on the middle of our defence, have a sound secondary, & our special teams is still the best.
(Anyone can throw it up and Lee will run under it. Doesnt take a lot of skill. That's how Losman got all his 70-80 yard TDs, wasn't him it was Evans.) Trent Edwards is the future, and the future is now. Edwards' arm strength is under-rated. He has a quick release - short completions can lead to big gains too. Lee Evans is the best at running under a deep ball. Anyone can do that.
u also have to look at the team that JP had to play with compared to wen Trent was drafted JP had a rebuilding team while wen Trent was drafted the team was just starting to come together and of course the play book for Trent was also simplified and expectations where much lower for a rookie then they where for JP
With all that said i believe that JP would be the better QB for this upcoming season but I'm not the coach and Dick Jauron has done a pretty damn good job here

Both Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman are good Quarterbacks. Trent Edwards is a much better QB then Losman though. Losman was good for a while until Edwards showed up. I think alot of Bills fans and NFL fans in general think J.P. Losman is a punk. He is a great guy don't get me wrong, but he just can't get the job done sometimes. Losman seems like a pretty chill guy who is laid back.
Oh, and as for the lack of touchdowns, it's because Trent isn't a homerun passer the way J.P. is. Trent can lead a team on a long drive. The problem is that when you get in the red zone you need receivers with size, and prior to this year we had NO size. Hardy, Anderson, and Johnson should help our redzone production and Trent's touchdown numbers.
Losman is an athlete. Edwards is a quarterback. Losman has one good read and one good throw - single coverage deep. If that's not there he has no ability go through his progression and find another intermediate receiver. And even if he does he is inaccurate in his intermediate and short throws. Knowing this, he often opts to scramble instead. Sometimes it makes for great plays. Sometimes it makes for disaster. Trent is the better all around QB, and he's only entering his second year.

i'm a bills fan but i'm glad j.p. is gone. edwards is so much better. he's more accurate and has great arm strength. edwards is all around better than j.p. i think j.p. needs a team that can work with his strengths but he didnt fit well with the bills offensive scheme.

Losman has the talent to succeed but sadly he does not fit in with the Bills schemes, he will likely be a much better fit somewhere else. I really hope the bills do better the 2009 season, so disappointing after leading the division for the first quarter to end up on bottom at seasons end.

Fuck Losman. The only thing he's good for is an interception, maybe a sack or two, and hell why not a good 5 fumbles. There's a BIG difference in looking for the open man and givin' the old bomb to Lee Evans, who is the only reason why Losman looks like a sometimes decent QB. Edwards doesn't have confidence. edwards is awesome, if they still had losman in there they would suck right now. i cant believe were 5-1. and the only reason they lost 1 is because edwards got a concussion so early in the game. they havent been this good in years, i think if they keep it up they can make it to the superbowl.

why are you bringing up what happened last year? If you recall, biron didn't even start playing decent until the end of the season if you really want to talk about it. And if you really wanna talk about previous seasons, why did Miller take the sabres to two straight eastern conference finals? Also, Marv Levy, one of smartest, best personnel guys in the NFL drafted Edwards. DONAHOE drafted Losman. Levy set a trend of drafting intelligence and character, which wins games. (And Losman doesn't have.)

i didnt hear walker say that thats funny as hell, lots of people get concussions and come back fine, but some are never the same again, we'll just have to wait and see, he got beat up alot in college so he may not be as durable as some other qb's. lets hope this doesnt become a habit for him. once you get one concussion your more susceptible to more concussions lets hope peters start playing like he used to and gets back into pro bowl form

Losman makes mistakes that give the other team the momentum. when pressured he makes bad decisions and turns the ball over. Rob Johnson had the same problem. If Trent starts against the chargers the bills win, if losman starts, the bills will probably lose.

The Bills got Peters (pro-bowler) back from his hold-out, have a lot of good, developing talent on the line, including Dockery, Walker, and Butler. Preston can fill in at center or right guard if they have injuries, but the starters played every game last season, so that should continue. They will become even more cohesive.

Also, Trent was hurt a lot in college because his O-Line at Stanford wasn't very good and his receivers were injured a lot too. That's why he wasn't drafted high.The Bills have the perfect receiver set this year - Evans (deep threat), Hardy (big target in the end zone), Parrish (can make people miss and get yac), Royal (good all-around TE, good hands [won't drop the ball much, can hang on when getting hit going across the middle]), and even Lynch can catch routes coming out of the backfield.

Edwards is a stud. With Lynch in the backfield (he can catch too), a big threat in the red zone in Hardy, not to mention Edwards loves throwing the ball to Royal, we should be able to put up some points, I don't care how many field goals we have to kick, I'm sure Edwards will get it in the endzone more than Losman - not like we ever scored many TDs with him either. The entire team looks GOOD, we improved on the middle of our defence, have a sound secondary, & our special teams is still the best.

(Anyone can throw it up and Lee will run under it. Doesnt take a lot of skill. That's how Losman got all his 70-80 yard TDs, wasn't him it was Evans.) Trent Edwards is the future, and the future is now. With Brady out (omg has anyone else been dreaming this would happen the past 5 years?) we have a real chance of winning the division and having a playoff game. Also how often have you seen Losman throw for over 250 yards, and the Bills score 34 points? We actually got some TDs & won week one.

L8 Gr8 Steve Walsh said Edwards'll be an all-pro NFL starter. He stands in the pocket and can deliver the ball accurately into tight spaces, instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off and fumbling or handing the ball off to the opposing team like a game of smear the queer. Edwards' arm strength is under-rated. He has a quick release - short completions can lead to big gains too. Lee Evans is the best at running under a deep ball. Anyone can do that.

u also have to look at the team that JP had to play with compared to wen Trent was drafted JP had a rebuilding team while wen Trent was drafted the team was just starting to come together and of course the play book for Trent was also simplified and expectations where much lower for a rookie then they where for JP
With all that said i believe that JP would be the better QB for this upcoming season but I'm not the coach and Dick Jauron has done a pretty damn good job here

He gets sacked way too many times and when he played, our redzone touchdown percentage was completely embarrasing. Trent is a decent quarterback. He checks down each reciever quickly and makes a play. And he knows when he has to run the ball and he runs it well. JP would sit in the pocket and wait to be sacked.

First of all Losman is fucking terrible. Secondly Trent Edawards is the answer to our problems in Buffalo. He is not the only change the team made we rebuilt both our defense and offense this offseason. you make a poor argument, If losman could get rid of the ball he would be prety good, however his deciscion making sucks and his release is sluggish at best. JP played 6 complete games last year and was sacked 14 times, Trent played in 9 complete games and was sacked 12 times. Better pocket awareness = better QB. Nuff said. Also, The beast is gonna play a full season I hope, and Trent is gonna blossom, i predict a 9-7 possibly a 10-6 year. AFC wild card game here we come.!!!!!

Edwards is better because he looks at all the recivers on the field even the RB' losman only keeps his eye on 1 reciver and doesnt look all over the field

Both Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman are good Quarterbacks. Trent Edwards is a much better QB then Losman though. Losman was good for a while until Edwards showed up. I think alot of Bills fans and NFL fans in general think J.P. Losman is a punk. He is a great guy don't get me wrong, but he just can't get the job done sometimes. Losman seems like a pretty chill guy who is laid back.

Oh, and as for the lack of touchdowns, it's because Trent isn't a homerun passer the way J.P. is. Trent can lead a team on a long drive. The problem is that when you get in the red zone you need receivers with size, and prior to this year we had NO size. Hardy, Anderson, and Johnson should help our redzone production and Trent's touchdown numbers.

Losman is an athlete. Edwards is a quarterback. Losman has one good read and one good throw - single coverage deep. If that's not there he has no ability go through his progression and find another intermediate receiver. And even if he does he is inaccurate in his intermediate and short throws. Knowing this, he often opts to scramble instead. Sometimes it makes for great plays. Sometimes it makes for disaster. Trent is the better all around QB, and he's only entering his second year.
