Awesome. GM Estalilla moves like a young man. I had the honor of attending his short seminar on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at IMB. This form was shown at the end of the seminar and I'm glad I have this video for reference. Thank you so much.
I am very glad to meet you! You have really hit the nail on the head; he moves like he is about 20. I hope that I am in half his condition at his age. Apo Estalilla is an inspiration to me and many others I know. Peace like a river....
Kabaroan tends to use longer, heavier sticks than most FMA styles. In Norcal, we tend to use doble baston of 30", a solo baston of 30-36" X 1" to 1-1/8" My bankaw range from 48-60" x 1-1/8 to 1-1/4" in diameter. GM Estalilla used to teach us with two 36" police riot sticks...watching him wield them was incredible! BTW, I am one of Associate GM Ed Bansuelo's students (and am his first Master Instructor in Kabaroan Eskrima.)

I am using a baston (I'm the one in all black). Apo Estalilla is using a boncou. In Karbaroan we use larger and heavier sticks than in some systems; baston can be up to 36 inches long and boncou can be up to 48 inches, although the stick lengths can vary. I hope you like the videos, we really enjoyed making them!

Yes the stick Estalilla is using is definitely longer than what i have seen in most systems. Do the begining students use this length or start with something shorter. The vids look good and hope to see more.
There is no prohibition on using the bigger boncou even in the beginning. When we use two weapons, then we use two baston usually. Only *very* strong escrimadors are able to weild two boncou, so it usually isn't done.
@CTDjevin Sorry to bother. But the official latinized transcription would be "bangkaw". Filipinos won't be able to understand "boncou". Sorry for for that.
Apo great guy and he has great students that teach us, the martial arts I do has eskrima and karbaroan is the style we learn. :-)

How long is the stick he's using?
Aramis2000 6 months ago
@Aramis2000 - That one is a 38" stick. Karbaroan tends to favor large, heavy sticks.

@GaolisVideoLog - No bother at all. I know how to say the words and what they mean ... not often do I see them written. Thank you. ~j
