I've been a fan of garth ennis since I read punisher #2, it was a hilarious team-up (if you can call it that) between the punisher and spider-man and it was one of the few comics I read over and over again and it always made me laugh. Since then I have read almost everything he has ever written, no one does dark humor better than him.
The only complaint I have about Mr Ennis' work, is that when he leaves a comic book to pursue other projects, it becomes...bland.It becomes"not Ennis".One exception is the Punisher Max series. They laid Frank to rest beautifully.
PREACHER is Ennis' best work to date. It is the stuff of genius. Has anybody noticed that the who's who of vertigo comics have all worked on Hellblazer? Delano, Ennis, Azzarello, Carey, Mina, Milligan etc etc...
Don't forget Alan moore and Neil Gaiman. However what you should be pointing out is that nearly everyone one of these great writers are BRITISH. I guess we know where real talent comes form.
An issue of hellblazer featuring swamp thing comes to mind where he grows a huge pot plant in seconds! I knew he was a smoker from that - but its really great to hear him tell how stopping smoking gave great results - you are an inspiration to keep off it! Much respect due, you are the man!
Garth Ennis is a true genius....his work is absolutely awesome!!! I dont know HOW he comes up with this stuff...SERIOUSLY...I wish he had continued doing the Punisher max series...!!!
@Zamudiokid He actually quit smoking weed years ago... hence why his stories are always on time... a great imagination with the aid of pot is often fleeting and forgetful. But he's still great as far as I'm concerned... sober or not.
I've been reading Garth Ennis' work on Hitman recently. It's such a great read, and one of the few series that actually made me care about the characters.
"dangerous habits" is for me one of the greatest comics ever written ,it is really intresting to see a comic charector having to deal with the inevitablity of death ,altough i found the ending to be a slight cop out ,with the john constantine charector it was probably the only way to finish the story ,:)
One of the best moments I've ever seen in comics, that. Massive tension, guns being pulled, high tragedy, and then..."That fella's got a face like an arse".
I don't think that he was taking potshots at Simpson's work or anything, just saying that he didn't think that it suited what he we aiming for in his run on the book.
Personally my favorite hellblazer story is the one where constantine puts a demon in the body of a mob bosses dead child. I forgot the name

Being an aspiring comic book writer and artist from Northern Ireland, Garth is a huge inspiration.

Don't be a douche. The majority of the best comic writers are from America, and i still wouldn't say something so cunty as what you did.

"John Constantine is a character created by Alan Murrr...."
Lol, but seriously, Ennis is awesome. I loved Preacher, and I loved The Boys. No one does violent absurdity as well as Ennis.

I always really liked Will Simpson's Hellblazer art myself and really think Garth's being a little hard on it,
Not that Steve Dillon's take on John Constantine isn't great itself.
Regardless I really hope sometime Garth will give us another Hellblazer story someday.
