@assassinsrock thanks. i needed a solid object to fire the gun by pressing against the sear; it also has to have a smooth surface to not snag on the sear and slow down its travel, which would hinder the firing mechanism. a fork ended up being the choice because the prongs also allow it to be tied down relatively securely.
