Great sounding distortion! endless sustain! I use the studio Mesa Boogie 2:100 in my rack as well. tell me, are you using the 6L6's or the EL34's? I switched mine to the EL34's & absolutely love the sound!
I am honestly amazed at this tone... i keep coming back to listin to it all the time every day... I plan on starting a rack and i want to base my sound around the cae 3+se is there any advice you have? and could you please share what else was in your rack that help give this tone??
@samhillband - at 1:28 - and this in my solo channel, basically the same sound,uh, it's just boosted with, uh, one of the three channels on my bradshaw and a little more delay...
And also the Zakk Wylde OD? Did you forget to mention this in this vid?
Quite possibly forgot. It may not even be used in this rig at that time??? it was a few years ago and there was a time that I didn't use an O/D boost.
Hi, I just got a CAE 3+SE after hearing your tone. I'm running through a VHT 292 Power amp in stereo into 2 Mesa cabs, but your tone sounds much thicker. Can you share your settings for channel 3, and are you using a tube screamer or an overdrive to push the CAE? Thanks!
In the video for all dirty tones I am using Ch3, clean stuff is CH1. I now use a Custom Audio OD100se+ head. It kills the rack stuff. Better everything!
MONSTER growling rock tone!! That's a friggin' ridiculous set-up with all that rack stuff and the massive foot controller.. but you obviously know how to put it all to good use! EXCELLENT!!
do u prefer this over ur axe fx?

@samhillband I wish I could be as much an amatuer as you are Mark ; )

Hope you make good money at gigs to pay for that contraption. Alittle overkill for an amatuer gig. Haha

That sounds awsome Mark, your getting that fat tone.

do you use a mixer rack for the out of preamp? or the cae in the g major only?
yysii 2 years ago
For that rig I used a Roland M120 Line Mixer
samhillband 2 years ago
What a massive rig
toxikfan6 2 years ago
sorry...do you use any booster pedal?
good lead sound
yysii 2 years ago
I don;t use this rig anymore. For solo sounds with this rig I used a Zakk OD.

best preamp in the market
rockboy8812 2 years ago
how much are the pickups contributing to that tone? would passive pups give as much gain?
deltafit 3 years ago
I would like to know how much is the CAE 3+ preamp?
EMGXX84 3 years ago
You can get them used for $1500-$1900usd. You are better off with the CAA OD100se+...better tone much more thump and clarity.
Mark
samhillband 3 years ago
Isn't the CAA OD100 SE+ around $3000USD?
Also in your clip here, I don't know if you mentioned it elsewhere, but your "basic rhythm channel"... is it Ch 2. or Ch 3. on the pre-amp?
I'm thinking of picking up one of these pre-amps to go with my old VHT2150 power amp.
Great tone by the way :)
bdamotta 3 years ago
Yes the OD100se+ is around $3k. My basic rhythm with the CAE 3+se is ch 3, I never used ch 2 much...but it does sound great as well.
samhillband 3 years ago
Cool. Thanks for the quick reply.
I noticed another video on Youtube of someone demoing some Megadeth with this preamp and Ch 2 sounded great as well.
Decisions decisions...
bdamotta 3 years ago
how would you describe the tone of the 3+se? I like thick mid-lows sound you're getting in this video.. is it really that thick in real life?
prabowoputra 2 years ago
Yes it is that thick, the better choic would be the Custom Audio (John Suhr) Od100se+ or the PT100.
Mark
samhillband 2 years ago
You killer tone. I'm very impressed. I'm getting rid of my Recto and picking up a TriAxis very soon.

What's your Foot Controller ?
DrorBecker 3 years ago
That would be an RSB18F Rocktron/Bradshaw controller.
Mark
samhillband 3 years ago
Is that a midi controller ?
DrorBecker 3 years ago
Sounds good man, I'm running my +3 SE with a VHT 2/90/2.
JacksonVHT 3 years ago
Suck it.
Pewptypeupty 3 years ago
do you know the difference between the mesa 2:90 and 2:100? I'm considering either for my Marshall JMP-1 but can't try out both.
poop770 3 years ago
The 2:100 is more of everything! It kicks the 2:90's butt.

Is this preamp still produced?
Luke650 4 years ago
Yes, but very hard to get.
Parliaments100s 3 years ago
Thanks Mark,
Were you using a lot of the second equaliser for this clip, because it really sounds very thick.
Thank you

No extra eq. You should hear the OD100se+ head in person. If you like the CAE 3+se preamp you'd die for the OD100se+ head!!

DtretcHx 4 years ago
fucking awesome.. i'd like to see a combo of the recto recording preamp and the 2/100
HomerJ666 4 years ago
It used to be the Recto Pre in there, they are both really nice but I preferred the CAE
samhillband 4 years ago
do you consider the recto preamp more heavy? death metal like?
HomerJ666 4 years ago
The Recto was darker and looser souding.
samhillband 4 years ago
oh thats good for me then :)
thanks for the info
HomerJ666 4 years ago
that's amazing..
