  • SOCA & CALYPSO ORIGINATE IN TRINIDAD.

BUT PLENTY OTHER ISLANDS MAKE SOCA TUNES ASWELL

REGGAE AND DANCEHALL ORGINATE IN JAMAICA

AND OTHER ISLANDS ALSO MAKE REGGAE AN DANCEHALL TUNES ASWELL.

BUT ORIGINALLY SOCA IS FROM TRINIDAD, JUST LIKE REGGAE IS FROM JAMAICA.

  • @mamaneww ?

  • @Triniswe i dnt know my mom say ppl from trinidad do alot of calypso

  • speaking of which dis is a BAD BAD BAD TUNE....dis and Busy Signal and Machel- Whoooiii Gyal Whoooiiiii......caribbean collaborations MASH UP!

  • being influenced each other. That is why sometimes when you hear a song like this it is confusing.Because they all share similar influences and mesh well together. Is it dancehall? Is it soca? Is it a mix? Sometimes it's very clearcut what genre it is...sometimes it isn't and as music evolves and artists collaborate that is going to happen. We really shouldn't dwell on it. These artistes don't and obviously it is working well for them. And it works well for me too :)

  • some similarities with calypso. The Mighty Shadow - Poverty is Hell is an example. This is because ska music developed from a mix of jazz, blues and calypso, which then brought on rocksteady which then brought on reggae. That is also why both calypso and reggae address social and political issues since the developed out of the need to express struggles in a musical form. So calypso, soca, reggae, dancehall, zouk, reggaeton....are all genres of music in the Caribbean and are a result of people

  • oh lawd.....soca originated in trinidad...a mix of calypso and chutney, and has been adopted by many of the Caribbean islands so that they also produce soca music. This is dancehall (Jamaica) with some soca leanings...it really is stupid to argue about what genre it is or where it came from because all the islands have similar cultural history and so the musical influences are similar which is why it is so easy for islands to adopt each others music. If you research reggae you will see it shares
