I've been considering it. Just no refuge for math majors. A word of advice to those out there on the internets, if you are going to major in math do a double major with some type of engineering otherwise you're fucked when you get out of college.
No, from what I know actuaries are highly in demand by insurance firms and other firms that hire actuaries. You have to pass all of the exams to become fully certified though. I am taking my FM (Financial Mathematics) exam in November and will be taking the P (Probability) exam after that. Most firms tend to hire people as "actuarial assistants" or "actuarial associates" as entry-level positions which are attainable after passing a few exams.
What is the pay-range for the people who are at the entry level positions as assistants/associates? By the way, how did your tests go? How difficult were they?
I am in my first year of ACSC right now so I would like more info, thanks!
Check out the salary survey at the DW Simpson site (google it). My friend who started an entry level actuarial position in June makes a little over 50K. As for me, I've passed P and FM already (studying for MFE in Nov) and am having a difficult time finding a job. It really is tough out there.
@OmgItsNikoZ, just caught this by chance while going over my old e-mail address to which these messages are sent. I'm in NJ (New Jersey) and from my understanding after talking to several actuarial students in Canada online over there the standard entry-level student comes from an actuarial program and has like 3-4 exams right out of college so I take that to mean that the competition there is tougher.
I'm going to be a snake handler.

Totally agree with you. I rather regret not studying something more applicable to the real world.
