Great video....I remember when I saw them three times in CARACAS, VENEZUELA in 1981, and twice in ROCK IN RIO Brasil in 1985 , were the best years of my life, those years will never come back.
I remember the day well. I got out of bed around 12 and had a bowl of cornflakes. In the afternoon I played a game of football in the back garden with my brothers. I was in goals
@smitjo01 Lol You're a tosser and know nothing. At every gig when they played Bohemian Rhapsody they would always leave the stage for the opera part. When isn't Freddie arrogant on stage???
They ALWAYS walked off stage before the Opera part. If you ever heard the audience recording of the show, you would know that the entire concert was filled with drama (people fighting, throwing stuff at the BAND, trying to get on the stage, etc).
I was there! I was 18yo. It was my first concert. I Left Ireland in 87 and have seen many concerts in California, but none compare. Yes there were 80-100,000 there.
Wow, just finished the video... Did he just mention Bruce Springstein in any sort of relation to Queen? That name is just insulting even within a close proximity, sorry. And holy shit, did anybody die there? Crazy!...
@obm1991 The news report says 80,000 were there but I've heard estimates of over 100,000. It was a very rowdy crowd too. The Bangles described going on stage as "like Raging Bull, like a Scorsese movie." Brian May diplomatically said there was "an element of noisemakers in the crowd." Freddie had to stop in the middle of a song because a fan was getting hurt, Freddie said: "You guys are spoiling this concert for the rest of the people." Apparently, Queen said they'd never play Ireland again
@rmtdrums You have to remember that this was during the last big recession, everyone that could leave Ireland were going and those that were left behind didn't have much to look forward to, no wonder they went nuts on the day. The Irish fans are the most enthusiastic you'll ever see normally and great fun to be with.
@bobbafet2008 They finished touring that year though Brian May did play Solo at the Point Theatre in Dublin after Freddie's death...think it was 8th December 92 (or 93) on his Back to the Light tour. It was a very poorly promoted and attended gig but he was great despite a very small audience. Queen did play with Paul Rogers in May 2005 to full houses In Belfast and the final night of their tour at The Point Theatre in Dublin. A fanastic show but not a patch on Slane needless to say.
@hillerbees There was a really bad storm in Dublin on the night of 8th December 92, that could have had something to do with the bad attendance at the gig.
@TroyDouglas917 I remember the weather well that night and it was a horrible night but I'd be surprised if that kept people away...it certainly wouldn't have helped draw in people who maybe got free tickets or weren't that bothered about Brian/Queen but I think most people had they paid would have still turned up. I take it you were there...either that or that you have an encyclopedic knoweldge of the Irish weather!!
@hillerbees No, I wasn't at that gig and, when I saw how bad the storm was outside, I was glad. I have a very good memory and it's rare for Queen or someone from the band to play here, so it stood out.
@bobbafet2008 I think it was in the book Freddie's boyfriend wrote, Freddie was pissed off about the rowdy crowd. It didn't matter in the end, he never toured again anyway.
I was there! It was raining during the day, and it stopped just as Queen came on and the stage was lit up from sun peeping behind the clouds, and then a perfect rainbow which seemed to begin/end on the stage. Pure magic day.
@Lollozucca97 I agree! Queen a pop band?? Wtf
