With this video I dived into the deep end and used a dremel for the first time, I got a pritty good circle and the use of the tape was a life saver, still made a mess and broke all 5 cutting discs but it got the job done.
Though the cutting blades didn't cut through metal case on my xbox 360.
i have a dremel that is cordless, and i like it, and think it has a lot of power... i have never owned a dremel before, but i do not have a problem with it.
these disc aren't "reinforced with aluminium oxide so they last longer". aluminium oxide does the actual cutting, reinforcements are provided by fiberglass mesh
I need to do hardcore cable managment on my antec 900 today............boy time to goto home depot and get a drill.........this is gonna be a long day.
@scottylans Thanks again dude, only 3 hours after making my comment here, had I purchased the same model you have here and done this perfectly - lucky for the information on the tape. Also you're right about forcing the discs, if you use light weight doing it, barely uses the disc, if you want to save time and push, it cuts much faster but wears our 3x quicker. Also my discs sucked, where can I get your ones? They look larger than the ones which mine came with and yours cut faster.
@scottylans, my store link is posted below the video, theyre reinforced discs, so they last longer than Dremel brand, Thanks for watching and commenting!
i will need / want a dremmel. doesnt have to be the brand dremmel, but a cutting power tool like it, dont care about the brand. could you tell me where i can get one as cheap as possible? thanks
Microsoft should've placed an extra heavy-duty fan in the top of this unit, everyone I know has modded theirs.....I finally done mine, works much better, used a 70mm fan (12.99) at Radio Shack and the handy tip shown in this vid.
I have a 200mm fan I want to put in my lancool pc-k62 would it look alright if I done 4, 80mm or 120mm holes and put grill covers over them and then mounted the 200mm. Or how would I cut a hole big enough to mount a 200mm
thanks for the tips, i have used many tools before, but never a rotary tool, it looks like it could slip away quite easilly if i didnt do it correctly.
To make neat circle cuts one could use the "Dremel Circle Cutter & Straight Edge Guide - 678-01". It's only about $15 and can do circles from 1.9cm-30 cm (3/4" -12"). Very neat.
I can't find that tape you use online. Is there a website where you bought yours from? I tried searching "Scotch Low-Adhesive Tape" but didn't get any useful results...
These are handy tools, but I think they're a bit over rated. I modded my Antec 300 (window, cable management slots, fan grille mods) using a 4" cut-off, a drill and hand files. Regardless I bought the Dremel 400 Digital /after/ I'd finished.
So a dremel can be used to make the whole window in case of not having a jigsaw? because with the curve technique (which is really useful) the rounded corners can be made. Or is there a reason for not using a dremel for the whole window and get a jigsaw instead (other than being easier)?
For a 120mm fa what size does the hole saw have to be? and whats the minimum power you need to cut through the top of your case, i have a cordless drill but its only 14v i doubt its enough to cut through a pc case with a hole saw attachment
@SaiE8 4-1/2 hole saw and that should be able to cut through a case (I believe but I could wrong) remember if it is steel you want to use some form of lubricant on the blade.
Just got a Dremel 300 yesterday. Thanks 2 ur tips I appear 2 b getting a lot of mileage from the cutting wheel. But how do I get it 2 no kick out n e sparks like u? I'm not using tape 2 protect the metal as it will b painted n e way.
I know this video is old but I have cut steel with my dremel stylus. It is fantastic. I sold my 300 and 400 after getting the stylus. It is fantastic. Holds a powerful charge all the way til the very end. Now if your going to be doing hours of continuous work get a cord. but I set my stylus on the charger in between use and I can cut case steel for hours. and that battery doesnt die from constant charge. it says so in the manual.
I will try to cut an apple logo in my case (steel). Do you think a dremel will do the job? Or perhaps should I go to cut my case with a waterjet machine (water cut)?
Well, I have been watching videos like yours, as I was thinking of maybe moding my tower's case out to add an extra fan to help keep everything cooler.
im sure you can, ive just used it to put a window in my ps2, although the speed made the cutting wheel hot and it melted it a tiny bit, but it dose a great job. and on the box it says plastic, metal, wood, glass, fiber glass... so yeah
im glad i did not make the round holes otherwise i was seriously hurt :P the cuttingweels flew off a couple of times and they would have hit me.. fortunatly now i only almost headshotted my neighbour^^ Thanks for the sharing, i made my own ventholes now instead of spending 80 euros on parts. The dremel was cheaper!
I was cutting holes for my pc and I wasted like 10 cutting discs trying to cut one darn hole.... then I watched this vidieo and i found out that i had aluminum oxide discs =D... fml
