  • lol, he called the torch a mig gun.

  • By cosmetically good looking, he means like his beard

  • Bah who cares if it looks good. As long as it holds, I couldn't give a shit.

  • @Cstrife234 Genraly speaking if it looks good it is good

  • @bozzza69 Well, that's obvious. lol But you can make it look good and not have enough penetration. Remember, someone who might not know how it works might think it looks good, but it may not be.

  • gtaw, gmaw, oxy acetalyne, nine ten....a big fat hen.......how did the chicken die,was it connected to the ground and electrode leads? doubt it, pizza is good when youre welding,oh and heating burritos with torches yum, from afar of course....jurassic man seems to know the art aspect, and i never cared for terminologies and the assholes who wish to pwn so bad that it turns the universe askew,im going back to my 7018,then my 6010,then v grooves for the day,i wish everyone happy welding PEACE

  • cosmeticaly good looking?

  • are you weaving your beads or jus straight? Is weaving only used on the vertical?

  • You should use the angle not as you like, but what it is for. When you are pushing the metal you get less penetration because youare pointing to a cold area. If you do it on an inverse angle you get more penetration. If you go to the middle you get an average penetration.

  • this guy reminds me so much of my old welding teacher back in college. ^_^

    ahh brings back memories.

its like teachers like that don't have thier own grandkids... it was almost like he wanted to take the whole class out for icecream, like all grandpa's do ^^

  • this is awesome im thinking about becoming a welder, and who but of all people actually knows his shit on the internet? ITS THE JURRASIC PARK GUY!!!!YES!!!!

  • lol jurassic park guy HAHA! seriously though he seems like a legend.

  • This vid was no explanation at all about push / pull!

When pulling, the arc tends to burn on the puddle. -> less penetration.

When pushing, the arc burns ahead of the puddle. -> more penetration.

So on thin material, where you easily can burn a hole, you use the pulling technique.

    For penetration push.

BTW: I doubt he's MIG welding. He actually is MAG (Metal Active Gas; pure CO2 or Argon + CO2) welding.

MIG is "Metal Inert Gas" Inert (= non reactive) gases: pure Argon or Helium.

    "Experts"! :-)

  • I wish people that DO NOT know how to weld would not comment.

Do yourself up a 1GF weld with 3/8 PL as cupons and 1/4 flat as a backing plate with a 1/2 gap...If you push the puddle in there GUARANTEED it will break. Hell if you pull it in there, there is no guarantee it won't break.

Stop with this "mig and mag" bullshit, you just sound like an idiot. If you want to be "proper", it's GMAW.

  • @SlowKrawl

So the "expert" is the idiot? He's using the term MIG in the wrong context.

And re push/pull: You'll always find an exception.

  • @SlowKrawl DUDE SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • im 17 and this guy who posted this is right ive been welding for a while now mig isnt used anymore mig stands for metal inert gas but they found out the gas isnt inert it is minorly explosive so it is gmaw i also do smaw, oxyacetalyne, and i plan on welding for a carror

  • slowkrawl is right

  • sloanert123: MIG? GMAW? and FCMAW or do you know what that is? if not its flux core metal arc welding. look it up. anyway, metal inert gas welding? really? its minorly explosive? sorry, let me correct you, there are reactive and inert gasses. And first off. If you want to have a career in welding learn all the real things, and don't forget the weld symbols. welding symbols and blueprints are. THE most important thing ever, besides a how to read a tape measure. So learn that then your good

  • first off, PRODIGY!!! you DON'T have to use correct terminology, and half the time when you do you actually sound like the idiot.

and second, if your such an "AMAZING" welder why the fuck are you watching something that tells you how to weld??? huh?? okay, STFU

  • This guy makes awesome worke

  • I tried welding a chicken once....

  • there would be no way to catch on ark on a chicken dude...

  • I sure did!! i tried to put the electrode on his feet, and he didn't like it... when I put it on his comb, he just fell over dead.. D E D dead....

  • I prefer to make small circular motions moving across the ridge or moving small foward and backward motions instead of a line so that when it occassionaly sputters, there won't be a gap.

  • Physically sound and cosmetically good looking.

    Sounds like me

    hehehehehehehehe

  • why dont you guys make one long video instead of many short once spread out

  • I know eh! This channel would be so much more popular if they would just link all the relevant video together instead of having us search for them.

  • @citydriver It actually has to do with Youtube and subscription costs. That and the shorter, less then 3 minute videos get you to go directly to their site in order for them to get hits and money. These are just a couple of the reason's.

  • @citydriver its probably because each video gets lots of views so if they had one big video they would have less views rather than having a bunch of smaller videos

  • if you can push/pull, weld with left or right hands, vertical or down hand, and weld tig backwards when required,on most materials, then call yourself a welder.

    From an old country coppersmith.

  • well said from a boilermaker

  • you can drag stick and flux core mig but as far as 75/25 argon mig you always push it for good penitration.

  • I have proven this by welding both methods on various plates then doing a macro examination of the welds. Pushing the torch will repeatedly give deeper esp. fillets on STEEL with A/C02 and ER70S-6. Dragging the torch pushes the deposited weld metal onto the previously deposited weld metal. Less skilled operators will get lack of fusion. A good operator can acheive results pushing or pulling whilst welding a plate Vee Butt. But a beginner could have diffculty acheiving 100%peno pulling. Thankyou.

  • Look u bunch of Wallies You can drag on sheet metal cos' it is thin and eas to penetrate dragging gives a flatter weld. On plate over 6mm (Sorry u Americans 1/4inch)You must generally push to ensure adequate penetration. Mig is renowned for cold lapping. dragging the torch is a surefire way to accomplish this defect.I am a qualified welding supervisor, trainer and inspector. true story.

  • I'm assuming you are talking about alu, because if you are a qualified welding trainer you should know that pulling gives a better penetration(apart from a select few welding positions). I'm an xray welder and studied it for 7 years(In belgium you can base your secondary school education on specific professions)aside from that I've been welding silo's that can fit your house a hundred times and am surrounded by the best in the field on a daily basis. you're either terrible at your job or a liar.

  • that post was a reply to monsteriosus

  • Thanks for clarifying 1/4 inch can't wait til you guys go standard. lol!!!

  • never push a weld, always pull to you.. Makes a better weld to me.. Easier to see too.

  • Man screw GTAW and GMAW i like my good old Flux Core

  • why? you have to clean the flux off after the weld.. its good for a extra shielding , screw chipping off slag...

  • any 'good' welder knows that with mig, there are so many different conditions from wire size, machine power, to types and thicknesses of metals, to their temp, that there is NEVER going to be a right and wrong argument that is worth a damn.

know your metal, know your equipment, and know how to adapt your technique in order to create the strongest fusion possible.

that means know when to push, know when to pull, and the whole time, you'd better dang well be able to see and know what it is doing.

  • He sounds Canadian to me.

  • bro ill show you brits and yankies how to weld im for nz and have welded in harsh conditions try welding outside in the wind and rain in the middle of winter and pump out phat welds

  • he looks like rolf (rofl) harris of pet rescue hehe

  • silly american boy jhuntphx

stereo type mother fucker sayin chris works on a sheep farm he is a very good welder and has been offered a 45k a year job in weldin is tht not sayin something?

  • Scottsman Excluded... (Nothing can be contributed)! No insult intened.. just fact!

    Sorry!

  • ONE MORE THING... I Spent a repressive 5 years of my life in the UK (UPPER HEYFORD AFB). You BRITS work only half days compared to us (AMERICANS).. and you bastards are welding with our "AMERICAN" equiptment! (MILLER)

I will be proud to explain the engineering advancements we "AMERICANS" have contributed to your sheep farming community if you would like....Chrisloveszoe

  • I am an EXPERT at M.I.G and here is my assertion! Never Ever "DRAG" Your weld... And most importantly.. Never Ever "PUSH"!!!

    GOT IT???

Stick to these guidelines and you will never have a problem!!

P.S. - Puddle matters! None of these idiots have ever welded in extreme conditions & are spoiled with pansy M.I.G's, and clean metal.

F*CK O** spoiled Brits.. you havnt built SH#T!!!!

  • suck ma dick ya yankee pikeys

inor wot im chattin and if u fuckin drag a mig weld then ur not gnna get much penatration at all + jhuntphx ya a stupid american u gotta push or drag num nuts other wise ur stayin still my im a expert at mig

+ the rest u are just as stupid for disagreeing with me

  • Hi Chris, I am an aussie who is a dinosaur. We call it forehand (pushing) and backhand(pulling). I've been in the game for 47 years now and agree that sometimes you push and some time you need to pull. But I have PROVEN in the lab that with the same parameters, pulling gives slightly more penetration. Still folks, keep it nice because we all like welding, I love it and am still employed at it.

  • G'day,patosaurus....no wonder dinosaurs are extinct, too much pulling probably :-P

  • great reply fluvally. very clever!

  • yerrr bea. if u drag it then ur a fuckin idiot it reduces the penatration may make it look a slight bit better but who gives a shit when its gotta hold alot of weight and that and its more then likly to be gettin ground off bloody americans cart weld for shit

  • Typical Brit.. Don't know SH#T!!

  • ur all stupid americans just can not weld, im a first year in england and ive seen how u americans weld and its fuckin stupid. let us brits sort the welding out we wnt get slag holes perosity or fuck all.

  • i like to weave the gun up and down. it heilps make sure the joint is completly welded

  • 911welding is rite. im a freshman in high school and i know that youre not supposed to push on the metal. if you do that with t.i,g you cantaminate the tungsten

  • tig is almost always a push method, as it preheats the area about to be welded and alows what you just welded to cool instead of boiling.

keep the electrode out of the pool though. The tungsten should never touch any metal- either the base or the filler rod.

  • It really depends on what you are doing if you should push or pull. Never exceed an angle greater than 20 degrees with the gun at any time and the tip should never exceed more than a 1/2" from the base metal. Never make a weld greater than 10 times the wire size. It is better to make small multiple passes than one huge weld to reach a desired weld size.

  • Anyone who pushes in any type of welding is a dumbass! The only exception is in spray transfer mig and vertical welds!

  • its Santa Claus!!!

  • lmao, it doesn't matter

  • if it dosent matter, why did i learn at college not to drag it, and my apprenticeship and 7 years experience is balls then?

  • well than your teacher, as well as who ever you apprenticeship was for, aren't to swift

  • pushing it is a better weld totally.

  • i'll agree with you to a point there, if your welding something where there might be a draft or a breeze you'll get better gas coverage than you would with a drag weld but thats about it
