  • Does anyone know the title of the painting at 0:04-0:08?

  • Thanks for this interesting combination of images and music. To make a good thing even better, titles and the year they were created would be great.

  • @Weightliftingfreak

    ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @Weightliftingfreak You are an idiot for even thinking you could do something remotely like similar! That's why you lift weights and write "coulds" "yous" and "mes" dumbass! Keep lifting weights and getting huge, but please don't use your brain, you were not intended for that purpose.

  • He invented himself. Beautiful or ugly at first glance doesn't matter that much. Work has to be powerful and tantalizing, that's a beauty in itself. Only more personal and lasting.

  • One of great artists

very special Art . . . you need trained eyes to understanding ,

  • @kartherz

you need that and all your brainpower

  • @recassorosa

no trained eyes, no brainpower, no HEART. Just Fact of Geniality, no more, no less.

  • De Kooning produced works of beauty his entire career. If all the naysayers here don't believe it or can't see it, that's their deal. If you don't like it, go away.

  • LOVE de Kooning's work. He treated paint and paintbrushes with respect and wasn't afraid to let the paint do what it's supposed to do.. I'm sure he could easily have painted and drawn in a realist manner, but his abstract style was more fun, challenging, experimental, breaking the rules... what art is meant to be!

  • @MsGaz101

i think you are right about bill

  • @MsGaz101 his early work in holland is something

  • greatest american 50's abstractionist...

  • I like your art!

  • For me, the last great painter...my greatest hero...He was quoted as saying, "Paint as if every stroke was your last." Thanks for posting this video

  • The last great Painter?

    Gerhard Richter?

    Robert Rauchenurg?

    Helen Frankenthaler?

    JasperJohns?

    Lucian Freud?

    Francis Bacon?

    Agnes Martin?

    I could go on. Aren't you being a bit...categorical?

  • hi, notice i said "for me"...i have my reasons for considering him such, thanks, tfa

  • I have some sympathy with you appear to be saying. I certainly care nothing for the likes Sean Scully or Gunther Forg.

    What is "tfa"?

  • stands for, "thefreedomartist",

    r u a painter? nice to make your acquaintance : )

  • I do a number of things and harbor a number of ambitions, which is why I've mustered the pretension to call myself "polymath", but yes, I do paint.

  • cool, drawing and painting is the "shit" for me...i checked out your channel, i will have to give it a closer look...on a slightly different, but somewhat related tangent, there is so much that can be done in painting, isn't there?...the question is, do we have the guts to do it?

  • for me, it's like "that one thing" line from City Slickers, (i know kinda cliche) but that's what it comes down to...are you going to live out what you KNOW is possible?

  • oh, and your right about the painting at 1:37, that's not bill, definitely looks like elaine's stuff...

  • Yes, it's a patently ham-fisted imitation of de Kooning's style, much as Franscois Gilot's painting's are slightly-better-than-ham-fisted apings of Picasso.

  • yeah, elaine is written all over it...

  • How come --with art, and porn- they always play bad jazz ?

  • @punchingmonkey bad music for bad art

  • "How come -with art and porn- they always play bad jazz?"

    *grin*

Very amusing, and almost dead-on, but to my ear this jazz really isn't so bad. It certainly gets worse...

  • Okkayy you are really pissing me off, you know nothing about art and don't say n****** it makes you look like a racist fool!

Im not gonna waste my time arguing anymore, although you say ingres used automatic drawing, pfft im sure while he was trying 2 perfect the skin tones he was really uncontrollably dazzling paint on the canvas..... do you understand that if you are trying too paint a perfect little picture lets say like vermeer it means its not a natural human reaction... its contrived

  • ok panditha666,

step one - raw human emotions are the deep unconcious reactions from the artist. all the american abstract expressionist were trying 2 tap into their unconcious (automatic drawing) they wanted 2 dominate the art scene, taking over europe.. it may look shit 2 u but least it is not contrived realistic , immature bullshit that pple do. vermeer did that because he didnt know anything else.. and wasnt willing 2 take a risk! if you want something that is 'truth' u paint from within

  • nigger please.

automatic drawing? ingres, and the painter of american gothic did that. they wanted more to taint the art scene with thieir filth.

your saying vermeer one of the greatest dutch artists who ever lived and whose use of light and shadow was cotrived realistic, immature bullshit?! what a fucking nigger you are!

was not willing to take a risk? he painted his work while others were painting landscapes, nigger.

go do your research before you speak moron!

  • wait your from asstralia, that explains it all

  • whats wrong with australia you stinking arse wipe?

its no wonder that america is the most hated country in the world with people like you living there and filling up the world's media and public spaces with cancerous pus like this.

thank god they not all like you over there!

show some respect and maybe you might get some in return.

  • whats wrong with asstralia? niggers like you and the fact that you shits think that liquified poop aka vegimite is delicious.

hated country in the world? yeah thats why everyone tries to replicate us and wants to come here for work and to live because we have ACTUAL work instead of the work you call which is shoving your fingers up animals asses.

canerous pus?! nigger please de koonig was a canerous pus like you. show respect to this shit?! why?

  • Yeah thats right cock jokey....thats why your economy is fukt and we are in the middle of a huge boom here....all working our arses off and reaping the rewards while the rest of the world is suffering. thank god your so fucking stupid that you dont know where australia is on a map or youd be dragging your stinking, rotting, carcass over here ASAP!

i wasnt asking you to show respect for the artist...just other users on this space

and YOURSELF (because youve been attacking everyone on youtube)

  • huge boom in what? nigger ass ignorant people? yeah good one.

dont know where asstralia is on a map? wow good one nigger, no i wouldnt want to go there because of idiots like you.

i have? and for what reason?

im so stupid?! lmao nigger please

  • because sum women are vicious and ugly and they bare their teeth? lol

he's wasn't trying 2 represent all women in that way, but in reality we are just animals, were not meant to clip our nails, shampoo our hair, workout at the gym, wear makeup...born naked die naked..eat or be eaten!!!

and too you 'senorfarqueso' this junk actually does have a strong connection too reality (a human being painted the god damn thing, the thing is a solid object, the raw human emotions expressed are real

  • What raw human emoitions? oh the shit on the canvas? thats not hard to do, just pully our pants down and squat

  • could you please go to the shop and get some MILK

  • nah

  • wow!....hate life much?..

  • TRUTH!

  • It would have been great seeing him paint these.

  • you can see anyone even yourself painmting things like this.. all you need is a canvas a bean burrito step one, eat burrito, step two lay canvas on floor, step three wait a few hours step four take off pants step five squat step six take a shit on the canvas step seven smear with hands step eight sell to idiots who think this is art.
  • go to your ROOM naughty!

  • nigger shut your mouth and gobble my goo

  • 5* and placed into my playlist of Willem de Kooning, thanks

  • I repect any kind of art whether its ugly and less attractive to ppl or very appealing piece done with elaborate work. I think art in any kind of form can move your heart if your mind is open to them.

and when i think about what makes a good or great artist, i think there is no answer to that. Art is such a broad term, tht i don't even want to question anything about it. I don't want to judge anybody's art or try to define the purpose of art. I think we all should leave art just as it is.

  • yea great idea. dont question. dont think. dont judge. just continue being a deluded moron.

  • good stuff

  • Willem de Kooning, Karel Appel, Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt van Rijn, Piet Mondrian, Arthur Benjamins. Dutch painters of exceptional note.

  • Jan Toorop was an inspiration to deKooning - he's up there. And Vermeer. Oh the list could go on and on and on of exceptional Dutch artists...

  • I'd overlooked Vermeer. Shame on me. As you said...the list could go on and on.

  • Comment removed

  • When it comes to art, I think that much blood could flow when tastes are concerned - or discussed even. Although I cannot identify with de Kooning's or Appel's work, they have been considered as ground-breakers and as they're DUTCH.....how could I object? ;-)

  • how dare you insult the likes of the master vermeer with this filt!h this guy was shit compared to the mastery of vermeer.

  • I do love Vermeer. But I love deKooning also. Filth? Hmmm...I don't see what you see. Filth is not a word I associate with deKooning.

  • this is filth, meaning all it is is just lines and shit. vermeer's work actually took some work to do.

  • Nice paring of jazz with deKooning. Nice photo of Dustin Hoffman with him. Also, there is a great ArtNews cover of John Lennon with deKooning. One can't expect the average professional art student painter to respect deKooning. The reason he, and many of his counterparts are important, is because they changed the definition of what art could be; in the same way that Charlie Parker and Coltrane changed the definition of what jazz could be. Dummy art connoisseurs really have no say here.

  • Williem De Kooning, what's wonderful about De Kooning...he actually started to explore Abstract Expressionism in his mid age. Brilliant artist. He was inspired by Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline, in my inspiration, De Kooning's work is real genuis. Gorky's can be confused with Picasso and more.

at the MOMA, I gasped. Genius!!

  • Thanks for the video. De Kooning is an inspiration.

  • DeKooning was a house painter, his art is done the same way.

  • It makes me sick to my stomach when i think of the glory this man had. And, how many people were equally respected simply because they copied his style. It is so confusing as to what makes someone like this elite. It seems to me the only thing artistic this era ever did that was actually artistic was manipulating the value of their work to a certain status. that is simply amazing. It seems unfair to people who actually have some level of genuine artistic talent.

  • Perhaps you lack the talent to perceive the craft involed in his works.

  • yeah maybe your right. Or maybe its because im not rich and gay.

  • There are plenty of Heterosexual, Average-Paid people who find his work stimualting. No one is forcing you to like this, it may not fall into your aesthetic. What we are asking of you is to show respect to the artist that for one reason or another (and missed by you) inspires people daily with his rich use of color and passionate movement (the reason I like him.) Don't pass judgment until you have studied the subject you are criticizing, otherwise you are a bigot.

  • Please, somebody has details about music : title, who's playsing etc...

  • listen glinebk

there is a list of music on the youtube music downloader

go to jazz section and i think its on the middle of the list

    you can listen to it

    xau

  • DeKooning is boring, and dull. I'd take Pollock anyday over DeKooning. DeKoonings compositions are weak and repetative, (He paints the same painting over and over again and again, very few original ideas and those he took from others.

  • that's what artists do.

  • De Kooning is a great artist and he was talented , was a good figurative artist before he let lose in the late 40's. He brought more then just splash it on action painting , he managed to combine figuration within his abstracts and he had a nice messy style loaded with dirty colours which are the best. However , taste is personal.

  • It's a 80's de Kooning 100% !

  • I.

I don't think it is. I'd bet at least one testicle it's a fake, painted by someone close to DeKooning in the hope that the world would pay him the compliment of believing it was done by Bill.

I'm of the minority opinion that the late paintings executed in the eighties are without rival the best abstract pictures anyone has ever painted, and though DeKooning really does begin to slip around 1986/85, and has lost his touch entirely by '88, nothing I have ever seen attributed to him is ...

  • II.

...as frivolous, hamfisted, and slipshod as the picture shown at 1:37.

It doesn't even seem to be in his "voice", if you will.

On an aside, the music selected for this video is superb.

  • Hello, can you tell me who are the musicians? and which song is?

    Thanks,

    Martin

  • Are you sure the picture shown at 1:37 is authentic? It looks like a fake to me.

Or perhaps it wa painted by Elaine.

  • never saw that one before!

  • aurora dont talk crap, because you say so he is rubbsh?!! i think its great work and visually stimulating -i never tire looking at it, people like you need to get a life-pollock is great but dekooning is rubbish?!

  • right

  • agree

  • De Kooning was overrated, had little talent, but somehow managed to deceive a lot of people. These pics are a mushy mess , except two which ,one is derived from Hofmann(needs at least 2 more colors, the yellow one). And the other which is barely above student level. You all need to go to museums more and look at Pollock , who was a great talent!

  • Yet another "pearl" from this Aurora i've been missing so far. So, Francis Bacon is overrated, De Kooning is overrated, Pollock on the other hand is a demi-god. Yeah, right. A troll is among us, and the name is Aurora.

  • Hahaha!! Trolls love pearls and other shiny things!! You cansee my vid - Go to Aurora Abstract, or Lucy Baker,AbstractAcrylic Paintings on Youtube, to see what I do with shiny things! Lol!

  • Magnificent!

  • You're all nuts.

  • why??

  • Pathetic redneck pretending to be a painter.

  • the paint" excavation" is a icoon for the indians of america

    thank you

  • he wuz dutch u dumbass hahahahaha

  • Hahaha!! I like that! But I never heard of a Dutch redneck!

  • There are rednecks all over the planet. Vulgarity and steritlity universal diseases.

  • I guess maybe that is so! DeKooning certainly was a woman hater!

  • "all women are are teeth and vagina's" that is why a lot of people I know refuse to view his work...(feminists), but it always makes me chuckle when they are forced to right a paper on a piece or two.

  • I'm not a feminist , though I believe in equal right for women, so in response to your insulting comment about women, to be fair, men are all mouth and think with their winkies (lol). And it makes me "chuckle" to see them squirm in front of painting of gorgeous naked men !! Hahaha!

  • Comment removed

  • Lol!! Ok, thanxs for the explanation! I feel much better now!! (You had me worried there for a minute!).Sorry, I should have seen the quotation marks, my fault.

  • I met deKooning. I am a woman and would certainly know a woman hater if I met one. De Kooning was not a woman-hater. He was gracious, generous, relaxed, and kind. And what a magnificent painter.

  • Sorry, I cannot agree with you. A guy can be polite, sweet and kind on the outside, but clearly he felt something quite different on the inside, and took his revenge in the paintings, he made women look vicious and ugly, bearing their teeth(are we looking at the same artist??????????????).

  • soo if a child draws this way they are that?! stupid.

  • Nice collection of shits.

  • dito

  • This music is really beautiful and you must give the name of artist + songtitle!

  • This video should be reedited and set to jazz, preferably something from the 40's or 50's, the period during which a lot of these paintings were made.

  • i did

    thank you

  • cool.. love it

  • superb video- good to see some of de kooning's work - thanks

  • your welcome

    soon more

  • six charcoal studies on paper remain Jenna. If youm mwish to purchase them ,then look at Kijiji Canada, Jeff has all six there for a best offer,I know they are under &.K...good Luck!

    J

  • DeKooning and Rothko were the best artists in the USA. Pollock and others were a fraud.

  • "rictit" do you mean all others or some others?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • They all were frauds. Except Hopper, Poe and Faulkner.

  • style is a fraud -said de kooning

he had no style but guts

  • Pollock was no fraud!! DeKooning was a "pretty boy!" lol!

  • who's the musician!? I like it!

    Art works are awesomeeee

  • great paintings by the master, terrible music by some rock hack. no thanks spinal tap.

  • i don't mind it cuz i'm used to it. sounds like a Minutemen rip off to me though.

  • Who was the brain that paired these incredible paintings with such shitty music? Unbelievable.

  • I know! What the fuck???

  • I agree, that music does not match the genius of De Kooning.

  • changed the music

    and indeed a genius

  • Now you're talking! Great paintings and music! Thank you.

  • cooles vid, geile mucke. der mann hats drauf...
