I love it when an owner brings their dog in this condition and you tell them you have to shave the dog. They almost always respond with "Well I don't want to see skin." I really just want to tell them to "Shove it." Yank the dog away from them and never give it back.
whoa! at first i was like poor doggie!!! look at that bad hair !!!! but they you started to move it and i was like holly molly what happen!!!!! they took his skin off or what!!!! im glad the dog got his hair cut off!!!! i do my dog hair cutting and brushing and he look gorgeous!!!
i absolutely HATE it when parents bring their dogs in like this. then they want it left long and the scoff when you tell them they need to brush their dog. We had a woman come in with a lhasa [she was crazy] i had booked it for our manager to groom, but she handed it off to another groomer and this dog was matted terribly. she was telling us she had no idea it was this bad, and its been this way since she adopted the dog. its EARS where folded into the mats. this lady begged us to keep it long.
no excuse to get your dog that matted ever! Any owner that doesn't brush his shih tzu should never own one! My shih tzus have a long coat and they are brushed every single day of their lives, it only takes 5 minutes of your time a day! If owners are too lazy then the shih tzu is not for them!
@AmberVideos2008: You really shouldn't leave your 10 blade (I think it was a 10, looked short :P) and shears on the table. I've had plenty of shears and blades bent and/or broken when dogs kick them off. :(
@oducavirus Thats why they dont work. A lot of our customers have bought them at walmart and have had no luck with them. You need a 2 speed clipper. I prefer andis ultra edge.
I work at PetSmart, too, and it makes me absolutely heartsick to see dogs come in like this. And it happens ALL THE TIME. I just had one a few weeks ago that was not only matted, but so infested with fleas that it looked like the skin itself was crawling. Sometimes I wish dogs weren't allowed to be sold until they outgrew the "cute fluffy baby" stage. It wouldn't solve all the problems, but it would stop a lot of impulse buying!
@veryberry39 when I brought my clean fully coated Maltese into Pestmart for a grooming they were all beside themselves. They hadnt seen a Maltese in full coat in over a year. They were equally baffled at the idea that I wanted him to STAY in full coat. Not one groomer there knew how to do a proper top knot. There was simply never a call for it. I was pretty disapointed in what he looked like but she warned me she didnt know how and I just accepted it. Needed him groomed before the wedding
@sabrinacle That's too bad. I love grooming dogs in full coat.. aaand I can even do the pigtail top knot that a lot of Maltese owners like. When it comes to groomers, they come in all different varieties; you have to find one who genuinely cares about the job.Petsmart offers great opportunities but unfortunatley their academy doesn't cover a wide range.. they leave it to the employee to expand their knowledge. Your groomer was probably very naive & maybe never trained under a true professional.
@TheDuppydoo I agree! Anyone even CONSIDERING getting a longer-haired dog should do as much research as they can before buying one. If you don't plan on grooming your dog at home, having a longhaired breed groomed is just like paying an extra bill. For Shih Tzus it can get up to $45 a month. That's a phone bill!

I work at petsmart too.. I had to do a labradoodle today like that.. it's so sad! I was able to save her face and tail, but ugh it makes me so mad..

@oducavirus Thats why they dont work. A lot of our customers have bought them at walmart and have had no luck with them. You need a 2 speed clipper. I prefer andis ultra edge.
