I just wanted to put out the message that you should ALWAYS wear a Johnny when you're out having fun.
I contracted genital herpes last year, and I had to leave my workplace (Stoke MDEC) for six months. The scars and smell were bloody awful, but I'm over the worst of it now.
I have to take anti-virals from time to time, but I'm feeling a lot better these days.

Live like what? If your immune system is normal, you barely know you have it. Healthy people may have NO outbreaks or maybe one or two outbreaks a year. An outbreak can just be one small sore on your genitals or mouth. Hangs around for about a week, then goes away.
It's not really life altering. You don't feel sick or anything.

It can be. People who know they have it should tell any potential partner that they have it, it's not fair otherwise. But people are scared of the virus, and don't want anything to do with it, or the honest person for that matter. The social and psychological effects of this is very much underestimated.

There is NOTHING wrong with it, it is not particularly harmful and it is not shameful. Some people get it without sexual inbtercourse! Yes, it can happen albeit rare. I had one outbreak in my life, about 5 years ago. My wife never had one and she is a carrier of the virus. Caught it from her first husband 21 years ago. Strange little bug!
