  • I'm with Telstra :( mine isn't throttled is it only by location?

  • At last, someone who knows what they are up to!

  • You have definitely caught Helstra out on this issue & they have egg all over their face. I thank you for bringing this to our attention with proof. Only a fool would think Telstra are in the right & it was their mistake. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing & will do anything to save costs. Shame you don't have a choice to change providers. Keep up the top work.

  • cant actually watch this video because im with telstra too...buffering...buffering

  • @Conan13666 Man o man I laughed so hard when I read this Conan13666 as the same thing here, the reason I laughed is because if I dident I would cry. EEVblog is a champion I knew what they were doin also, I have viewed this vid before but have a mate here at the moment and wanted him to see this vid that's why I am back. Anyway I am givin telstra the flick the end of the week thus returning my blood pressure back to normal again.

  • @StuTube40 after a few more phone calls my speeds have picked back up.

Its kind of obvious that they can fix it within seconds of my call... yet if i dont complain its slows down again... 1 call and its back to normal. Still to get consistant speeds i need to reset the router every couple hours.

I have now seen the full vid haha

  • My uncle has the adsl 2 which gets a speed of 20mbs my cousin can be on xbox live while my uncle would be pc gaming and I can still at the same time of them both using the internet watch a lagging full 1080p youtube video no waiting, itd besomething like faulty cable connection but telstra is certainly not capping youtube. Think, what possible gain would they get from it. I used my uncles as a demo as I have the 100mbs 3.0 cable

  • Dave, thanks for the rant... :)

My ISP - Westnet which is a telstra wholesale reseller has had a speed for youtube of 1.5 Mbps for the first 2 weeks of December, and about 2.5 - 3 for the last 2 weeks of December, compared to 5 for the rest of Victoria and Australia!

    So it still sucks...

    cheers.

  • I have unlimited internet and 20 mbps internet. Does youtube video loads like dial up?

  • i cant even watch the video because optus is doing the same thing...

  • I am lucky to under 2 km from the exchange, and it is provides 12mbps connection. YouTube on my BigPond cable 30mbps, is slow and jerky. I can receive a 3.2 mbps transfer from my local university (using BigPond), so I am working on the assumption it is 30mbps line speed. My TPG ADSL 2+ is great for steaming video up to 720p.

  • Now they need to do this with FUCKING OPTUS!!! I HAVE TO STREAM 240P VIDS FOR FUCKS SAKE!

  • NBN

  • agree, but utube is the only server that works half properly.ive been in arguments with bigpond for over 2months now.clicked yr link got this message.Video Speed HistoryWe did not find any video playbacks from your location. i also get the error(a couple of trained monkeys r workin on it).utubes the only site i use ATM due to the probs, bigpond tower is1km away.im also on elete and would love to use the internet for more than just running speedtests.unable to even upload a vid (average 30kb/s).

  • But I cant watch the video...

  • Yeah Bigpond Are Capping Xbox LIVE And Other Online Gaming Consoles... I Hate It When I Shoot a Fucking Weapon on COD or Something And It Takes a Maximum of 2-5 Seconds to To Get The Info Though That I Have Shot The Player :P Complete Bullshit

  • optus caps it too.. just checked.. 1.5mbps.

  • You say they fixed it, what was the problem? This happens here in Florida with Brighthouse

  • @Vernhicular They had the system rigged at Telstra HQ so that all Youtube video requests went via another country instead of being delivered from the Australian based servers as they are supposed to.

  • verizon here in america does the same thing!!!

  • Took me about 10 minutes to load 4 minutes of this video. I'm on BSkyB's Unlimited package. Horrendous loading speed.

  • I notice that about 3-5 pm my youtube is painfully slow with bigpond. But at other times it is fine. My youtube average is 5.12 so unfortunately you are wrong. At least now in mid 2011.

  • @TacticalSkum Yes, I'm now "wrong" because Telstra saw my video and FIXED IT several days after posting.

  • I use Bigpig's I meant to say Bigpond Cable. I suppose it the lesser of two evils. It is not as fast as my old ADSL2 connection. But at the same, it does not drop out like DSL. The moral of the story, buy a house located near a Telstra telephone exchange, and use Westnet or iinet. The best wireless service has to Virgin Broadband, it is more expensive compared with other companies, but they don't have problems with over subscription, plus is it does not drop out like DSL.

  • @master1999100 Do you have a point? Telstra thought I was right enough to contact me and acknowledge the problem, and fix it within days of this video. How is that a fail?

  • @master1999100 your a douche-bag

  • If TELSTRA bigpond is that bad as u say why am I able to watch you rantom rave on YouTube and use bigpond cable ?

    Please reply :( fail

  • You think youve got it bad come to new zeland and youll experience the worst broadband of your life its pathetic

  • they throttle their cable, you have to pay more for elite. normal cable is 30mbps, elite is like 40 or 50.

  • rent an IP tunnel with encrypted VPN, telstra can't tell where you're connections are going, ?????, profit

  • The data clearly shows it...

  • are u Gay ?

  • Comcast throttles everything except XFinity because they own it. They would never fix someone's connection though. I actually got faster speeds by wasting bandwidth streaming videos from them so my other stuff would go faster. They really need to be lot cheaper if they can't provide you with what they sell. Comcast, anyway. Luckily, I do have another option. SBC DSL. It's actually faster and more reliable in my area. They just started bandwidth caps though. Can't fricking win.

  • they are testing waters to see if people notice.

  • Way to fight back!

  • I know the issue is now old and solved. But I'm on Telstra, Ive got the Elite ADSL connection and I get 10.89 on the youtobe test. So all the other colored lines are sitting way off on the bottom and mine is peaking off the graph. I'm pretty pleased with my youtube connection speed. I still have problems getting any speed from the Telstra steam content servers though. I'll be lucky if I get 150kb/s.

  • use a different dns server.

  • you are right i just found this- my youtube is having spasms- i had this happen a while ago and upgraded to unlimited so why am i having t now??????and while i write this it takes ages to even load!

  • Telstra is shit as a service provider ??? wow ......... what a revelation haha

Telstra as an investement is a "dog stock" grrrrrrrr

Telstra as an employer, well all their staff hate their job as far as I can tell.....

  • enj0y ya shitty 0ptus and vodaph0ne :P

  • the reason is no doubt obvious. money and suits : )

large corporations make douchy sweeping decisions all the time. I recently got raped by UPS (Denmark). I got a small sub 1kg pack from digikey but because it had more than 5 different customs items in it (I'm guessing parts from more than 5 different countries of origin) they sent me a bill for 110$ just to list the content. not to pay toll or anything, just to list it. for one package. and calling them sure didn't help. I wrote a letter, nada.

  • you know what your a douche bag! You really think Bigpond is capping speeds, i have cable for years, and never had an issue with it! So maybe you should check your PC (or mac, if so your a major douche) because you sound like a conspiracy theorist! and i HIGHLY doubt telstra, actually acknowledged this video...

  • @mattiev20 More fool you. Telstra contacted me personally the day after this video went public all over the forums. They acknowledged it was a genuine problem and they fixed it within a few days. They even followed up with me to ensure that the problem was fixed.

  • Comment removed

  • @EEVblog well thats what you have told us, or maybe there just wasn't a problem in the first place.. surprise! Anyway, still 4mb per second down on youtube, via cable for as long as i can remember... The only capping i can understand putting on YouTube, is on Mobile Data, not to congest the mobile network..

  • @mattiev20 Nothing wrong with calling someone out on something they shouldn't be doing. Comcast in America did something (somewhat) similar, and had a Class action lawsuit on their hands!

Its retards like you are naive enough to think that this wouldn't happen! Just because _YOU_ didn't have the same problem, you don't think someone else wouldn't? The world doesn't revolve around you, Sir Douche.

I say thanks Dave. Too many people are too afraid or too stupid to call others out when needed.

  • @lazerusmfh maybe people like you just like to complain about a service they can't control due to circumstances outside their control... or maybe it was just a busy day on youtube?

You can't assume that its a conspiracy to control the bandwidth of internet, if you believe that that your the retard..

  • I think this cock-forehead has been smoking the wacky tobaccy! I do not notice any issue watching Goo-Tube. I watched this piece of goat shit...

  • @sircable That's because Telstra contacted me and said they'd fix it a day after I posted this video. And they did fix it. You're welcome.

  • Had this RIDICULOUSLY SLOW youtube for 2 years now (Cable Elite 200Gb). What is going on with these guys ?????? In 2011 this is a joke. That my_speed thing lies it gives me 4.8 but every video takes 10 minutes to load

  • @bigmaxy07 Probably is nothing to do with your connection!

  • Comment removed

  • I have Adsl with bigpond and have never had an issue with YouTube

  • @jordz82 me neither and i have a usb modem

  • If you are on the Gold Coast. OnTheNet is the best isp around :)

  • im using tbg and my isp test result was around 1.5mbps as well(sydney), but i seldom have any speed problem with youtube.

maybe its true that youtube is slow for bigpond users, but there is no evidence showing telstra is deliberately doing that as you said.

  • @tiwu5501 There is, and they did (not deliberately they say). I was contacted by them and they fixed it within several days of this video going public.

  • damn, lets hope you get some competition into the country

  • Telstra is at it again. My youtube speed is a flat line again.

  • hehe my talk talk isp is at 3.55 mb.

  • Unlimted speed lol, you have no idea what your talking about

  • I cant believe you are complaining about "having to resort to cable"..........dude 20% of australians can get cable internet, 80% percent cannot. you have the fastest possible and most reliable internet connection available. If you had dodo internet there is no way in hell that you would be able to post this video up because they struggle with connecting their customers anyway. You pay for quality with telstra, they are the ferrari of communications, do some research on their site 4 beta deals.

  • @holicman Only having Testra cable available means ZERO competition

  • I have also had problems with internet and saw that the router was aging so our 100 Mbps was not used optimally Greetings M. from Holland

  • I have also had problems with internet and saw that the router was aging so our 100 Mbps was not used optimally Greetings M. f

  • if they cap YouTube then they will be capping other content like torrents etc

  • Someone ALWAYS finds a way to whinge about Telstra...

  • I got a 100/100Mbit fiber connection and I experience the same thing every time i go on youtube.

  • lucky me that i have a 20$ connection with a solid 10 mbp/s

  • interesting as i am bieng throttled by mine in the uk but couldnt watch all way through cos of that voice lol

  • about AU$34 per month

  • I'm with CHT (It says the "broadband" is up to 10Mbps) in Taiwan, 2.3Mbps straight line.

  • How much does a 30megabit line cost in australia? I've got a 25mbps line here in los angeles, ca and i pay 60usd, My ISP throttles my line but instead of cutting me it boosts me. Anytime I need more than 25mbps of bandwidth and its available the line will throttle up to speeds of 35-40mbps. Its a great feature they call "speedboost"

  • @dynetrax I pay around $100/month for my 30Mb cable. But because the cable is privately owned, there is no competition.

  • im on telstra and i have 13.37mbps on youtube

  • had to stop this video before i pushed my computer off the desk, most annoying voice.

  • notice that Telstra also don't let you post on their videos without approval?!?

    Bloody corporate communist bastards!!!!!!!!!

  • My BP was down today, for about 3 hours haha. Ahh geez.

  • Wait till you see some bills that you get from telstra if I didn't phone them I would of been paying triple oh yes try and speak to an Aussie

  • Can i ask, i have the bigpond elite plan 200gb for 90$. It says i have max 30mbps download, but i still surf the net, youtube and download like i still have the turbo plan thats like 5mbps. What's wrong with it?

  • @dogeatme Also on speedtest net it says i'm only getting max 10mbps when i should be getting 25mbps.

  • @dogeatme Speedtest is unreliable for testing your speed. Download a few large files from your ISP at once to get your true maximum speed.

  • I know you probably wont like this comment, but I have been thinking about it from a business perspective.

People dont always watch the full clip, so why should an ISP download the whole clip and be charged more themselves when the user may swap video files pretty soon after.

I have found my telstra cable runs great on you tube with no lag problems at all.

Just because a little bar takes a little while to get there doesnt matter a rats.

I am happy, stop whining. :)

  • try optus, its much much faster

  • Seriously, this guy is having bad experience with Telstra.

To me, Telstra is the best internet company in Australia, but i have to admit it's very expensive.

I was with Telstra before. It had great service and i didn't have any problem.

    I'm now with TPG.

It's the best value for money, but not custumer service (i never complain, because i never have problem with TPG).

If you want the best service, Telstra is your choice.

if you want value for money, TPG is your choice.

  • :\ australia is the worst place to get internet, only place that has capped useage limit

  • @Jesta188 Yeah, it's retarded.

  • @Jesta188 New Zealand is worse... i use about 80GB of data a month, the biggest data plan i 40 GB i pay about $70-$90 in per GB charges per month and my bill is about $220 NZD per month

As a software dev this is crippling the whole sector... but telescum is owned by americans and they put profit before people capitalist style

  • @militantmindset That really is price gouging :-(

  • @militantmindset There's internet in NZ?! (Sorry jk!)

  • @militantmindset Agreed, lived in NZ all my life and Australia seemed like heaven at first. Then I visited Malaysia =(

  • hey I'm with Optus and for past month can't watch anyhing at 480p. WTF is going on here, why not just go back to dial up huh?

  • Hey man nice vid, pretty cool. i was wondering is Exetel good isp? im stuck with 1.5mbs( defintly does not feel like it tho, im downloding at like 100kbs at max) optus with no other options besides Exetel, i dont wanna move if they are unreliable. thanks

  • @SidewindR14K No idea. Try asking on the Whirlpool forums.

  • this fool wants us to waste $70bn on the NBN. he's just a dick.

  • still faster than mine

  • hmmm dude mines stable with youtube soo.. so im assuming its just you cause my ISP is 3.94

  • @Drifter1111111 It wasn't just me. For all those who don't read the description, Youtube FIXED THE PROBLEM days after this video was posted.

  • Ripping off Telstra was both pleasurable and satisfying.

  • how did you get the 'You' section on the website...

  • ive got bigpond aswell elite plan the best one they have and it seems to be working good on youtube how is it in your area now?

  • Fibre, 100mb Cable and Wimax2 are all faster than your 30mb cable, However 30mb cable is still fast!

  • Excellant video! Well done mate!

  • get optus cable they gave about 20 Mbps down and about 0.5 up you get 20GB and home phone for $99

  • Holy shit, i am in Australia with Optus and my graph read 6.93. Telstra really are screwing you in the arse :(

  • Even at 20 megabits with Optus i don't get this problem so at 30 megabits that is a fucking joke. Telstra are a deplorable company and its quite dumbfounding how Australians put up with SO MUCH shit and do nothing about it, whereas in other countries they really put the wind up companies and governments.

  • wireless broadband from bigpond aint that bad, i get between 5 and 8 megabits per second which lets me get a gigabyte in less than an hour

  • holy fuck im getting 6.75mb/s

  • AMEN! im in central queensland, on ADSL 2 +, and i have not got even a single kb over 1 mb. rather than the 2-4 mb/s they advertise it! paying hundreds of dollars for it, and its the shittest quality. we even have a telstra t-box, and even the videos on there buffer! telstra is the biggest bunch of dickheads, i wonder when they're going to wake up to themselves and distribute there millions of dollars in the right ways.

  • I Must say, I think you dribble shit. ie, My Test results are 4.22, Telstra 4.25, Hobart 3.50, Tas 3.48, Aus 4.24, Global 3.63... and my graphs are all up and down (Including Telstra) So are you only showing the results that back up your claim? are you the typical person who "loves to Hate Telstra"? Yea we all know they suck, But i think you suck harder. They are the biggest they may be the most expencive but i,ve never had an issue with them... Telstra Bashing is old, Get a life.

  • @Distinction05 its been fixed thats why

  • by cable, does this mean fibre optics? im not yet used to internet in australia as ive not long moved here. Is there a provider that supplies more that 30mbps? or is that currently the fastest available. I'm a very heavy internet user and use up to 6gb in a day.

  • Oh man, don't get me started about Bigpond.... yea as with most people. They are my only option, ripped us off net and phone for over a decade. Now they introduced these new "cheap" plans. Now I got a letter saying they will upgrade it for me to 200 gigs for no extra cost. Surprise surprise its an extra 20 bucks which makes it 90 bucks!!! BIGPOND SUCKS BIG TIME... and I can't freaking change providers.

  • Telstra by far have the worst customer service they tell I can get ADSL 2 then say not then say yes I can I told am to start with I can't but they insisted nowthey tell me I can't even get ADSL I have it with internode currently

  • Sadly I think it is your voice causing the issue, mine has been up and down between 9-14 MBps for 2 months solid. I have found however when I talk like you do, that my internet pretty much just stops working.

  • we get the same thing on a dodo connection haha :)

  • i have ADSL2+ 100GB Bigpond $99 for my fathers buisness i live on a hill and it is BULLSHIT

  • @MrCelestial1992 I hate being stuck with no options like that. My only options are Telstra cable, or wiresless.

  • @EEVblog what about vividwireless, research on them

  • I'm on Bigpond Wireless, and I'm getting 3.29. (:

  • Telstra are shite, absolute disgrace of a service. Wireless is soooo bad. Love the Indian service centre with the scripts, O Hello Sir, my name is Mr Dan sir, how may I be helping you today

  • @eircamae86 Telstra doesn't have any call centre in india...its all in manilla in phillipines...which i guess worst....i had loads of trouble wid them...

  • Now, in Malaysia. Our ISP throttles, literally, everything.

  • hahaha and thats cable well im bigpond turbo wireless modem and its telling me 5.36 mbps on aug 13 to aug 20 beating every other avg on youtube well i'm faster then him what a crack up

  • Hi I live in Alice Springs, NT and same thing here, my youtube too has been throttled at 3.33mbps... thanks for the heads up mate.

  • EEVblog.....I have Telstra cable extreme.....up to 30 MB per second, most of the time, it around 18 MB to 25 MB per second.

    I'm happy

  • Telstra bigpond is incompetant and overpriced. I am leaving and never coming back when my 2 year contract is finished.

  • The Glasnost test is pretty useful for seeing what is going on with your ISP and your network.

    Google "Mlab"

  • WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?!?! i also use Telstra (bigpond) and my ISP is 5.27.

  • Comment removed

  • Here in Califronia, we get Fiber To The House, I get what you describe on occassion, what we got to remember is that your internet speed is as fast as the slowest routed switch/router/line. Also, if you don't get the speed you pay for, then the service provider should give you a refund. What does Telstra provide you with? If Telstra is not playing by the 'net neutrality' rule then they should get fined.

  • Comment removed

  • Quite an amazing find to be honest.

  • thanks mate im with the bigpond elite plan (Cable) 30mbps and im loading a 1080HD video very quick now

  • "...reliable, solid high speed connection" Well that should have ruled out Telstra in the first place

Been with optus for 8 years. Best plan out there

$69 for 180GB at average of 8-9MBps on youtube...

  • Mines so slow... Im not capped, Im with Telstra, and its going SLOWER than capped... >.< They suck SO bad...

  • For those interested, because of this blog Telstra FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM a few days after I posted this rant. They had known about it for ages but they didn't care and did nothing until they got their butt publicly kicked.

  • @EEVblog 6,230 views, hardly.

  • @ahardyau It's not the number of views, it's about getting the right people to notice. Within 24 hours of this blog Telstra contacted me and said they'd investigate and fix the problem. Shame they didn't do the same for everyone else who had been bitching about the same thing for ages before i discovered it for myself.

  • I just checked mine, im in melbourne and im on the Cable Elite 30MBPS plan, My avg you tube speed says 5.63mbps, and its not a flat speed, it goes up and down just like any other streaming, But 5.63mbps avg, much faster than any of the other comparisons you posted in your video, it seems as though you are just another person who hates telstra for no apparent reason. You should really research a bit more before having a winge !!

  • @ffcukoncocaine

You should read the follow ups on my blog before putting your foot in your mouth.

My blog forced Telstra to finally FIX THE PROBLEM, a few days after I posted it. You are seeing the results of that. You're welcome!

  • @ffcukoncocaine What you wrote does not make sense bro, its all in the grammar I think.

  • Perhaps you should be lobbying Optus to install cable down your street if you hate Telstra so much

  • i got 4.2 but it was pretty consistent

    im on a TPG 50GB ADSL+2

Judging by everyone elses result and the fact that you said your in a pretty remote area, I think its your area.

  • My internet is Bigpond with an average speed of 3.68 MBPS with a pretty striahht line

  • I just checked.... and now is 6mbps... still a straight line...

  • And wow mate, i just checked my speed out. My 'You" is at 4.19 and my ISP is at "4.95" So yours is 3/4 slower than mine. Unlucky mate, you should get the aussie community to protest this, it's not fair for you Telstra Users

  • TPG FTW! ADSL2+ $70 for 110GB and i got this exactly a year ago. 24MBPS download, 2048 Upload. Really great, awesome download speed, awesome upload speed, awesome YouTube buffer speed. I'm wired and i'm using a 20 meter cheap Ethernet cable which i bought for $15, yet my speed is so great.

Get TPG if you're able to, really good, really reliable, cheap, super-fast. 10/10 from me!

  • I guess Telstra throttle free video streaming services, because free services directly compete with their paid services.

I've always had the opinion that ISPs should not be allowed to have business interests in media companies because of the conflict of interests.

Media dinosaurs like Rupert would like nothing more than to have a controlling stake in the internet to help protect their failed business model.

Conroys internet filter list would be dwarfed in comparison to Ruperts

    Cheers

    James

  • *sigh* i wish we had South Korean internet...... they never have that problem..... im getting throttled on almost everything. Cos i jacked up the bandwith too much last month

  • dude. if ur on cable n there r other ppl watching foxtel. it effects ur speed. doesnt have to be ur house but technically n the the area. coz fibre optics is the same. secondly dont jus ve a go at telstra coz u can!! haha..i reckon its 9 minutes n 19 secs up..U must have some youtube content to watch by now! lol.

  • I just went to the youtube My Speed site and i'm with Internode and the line seems pretty straight and it's at 1.95. So yeah, that sux, oh, and i hate telstra.

  • I'm in the US, not capped, but I'm on 3mbps down .640kbps up. I can get only up to 10mbps down and 768kbps up because I live in the country.

bit,ly/b5XBrZ (change comma to a period)

  • i hear you bro. they limit my download and upload speed aswell.

  • ive got the same annoying problem

  • I use bigpond in melbourne and my graph was the same as everything else

  • Telstra connection in "Cairns/FNQ"

Your average video speed at this location from May 14, 2010 to June 12, 2010 was 3.88 Mbps - current network is shared with approx 150 users

Watching the test video now i can see it averaging around 7Mbps

  • Well it was going via Hong kong due to a fault in there peer overseas contention. Reason why it took so long too change as no one reported it to bigpond. Quite funny really.

  • I checked this out and got the same issue as Telstra is my ISP. But I just checked it again today and it appears that about a week after you posted this video the throttling stopped.

  • Youtchoub! lol

  • yeh i im on telstra they suck

  • Hi we totally agree with you on this as we are on Telstra's Unlimited Business Broadband which we pay roughly $300 a month for ADSL2 20mbps. We are finding this shaping very frustrating. I think the only real way we are going to get anything out of Telstra is if we start an online petition agaist them. I will send you our graph to add to your collection.
